"...a high-profile church..."

I avoid 'em like the plague and stick to small-body churches with a larger umbrella affiliation, (and, of course, preaching the truth of the Gospel, not "sermonettes for Christianettes")

“Both Tullian and his wife had affairs. Wow. Sounds like that pulpit power went to his head.”

So what went to his wife’s head?

You're naive if you don't think a powerful preacher's wife enjoys considerable power of her own. Prestige. Women's committees. Attention.

It's all a symptom of a system of man made religion that has impeded true Christianity.

After the dust settles, this guy will go on TV, cry and wail for forgiveness, and open up the cash registers again. See Jimmy Swaggart.

I agree. Why even mention the wife’s affair? Let her make her own public confession if she so chooses. He should have just said they were separated.

Prayers to you and your wife, I’ll ask GOD to forgive you...

“Did the Pastor repent? Ask his ex-wife for forgiveness?”

I have no way of knowing. Since this was a man I looked up to in Christ—he was a bona fide believer, not some charlatan—I felt I should have known. I was younger then and tended to seek spiritual father figures. Disappointment was felt more strongly.

I attended Key Biscayne Presbyterian when Steve Brown was the pastor. Great preacher.

It is a reminder that we all fall in some way.

What’s the point of having a Savior if you lead a sin-free life?

So the wife had an affair because her husband had power that tended to make her important as well? Usually women have affairs because they feel neglected, needy. Most likely she felt forgotten about while he was focused on ministering. That’s why it usually happens and there is nothing naive about my point of view.

I think a more accurate description would be, "sober alcoholic". You are still an alcoholic but you do not drink and because of that fact you are sober. Be careful, though, and don't overestimate your ability to stay sober by your own power, and by yourself; you are still just an arm's length away from that first drink where, as they say, one is too many and a thousand is not enough.

Cordially,

It seems he tries to rationalize his adultery by pointing at his wife.. when he can own that sin as 100% his own ... perhaps he will be ready to repent

This is a story as old as David.. a man after God own heart..

Tullian Tchividjian is 43. He is of Swiss-Armenian heritage. He and his wife have three children. His Armenian father was a clinical psychologist. His mother and father divorced when he was young.

In his own words "I was a thief as a young adult, I stole, I stole from every employer I ever worked for".

According to him, his the focus of his life consisted of wasting money on drugs, alcohol and women.

His wife was pregnant by him before they married.

He slowly reformed, worked on becoming responsible, and completed college, graduate school and seminary.

I pray he remains strong in the faith and is not reverting to his past persona.

Like 7:47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

We attended Coral Ridge for many years participated in the Evangelic Explosionn. And during the transition he made it from a ware-house church he did NOT show any form of humility. At a meeting in the fellowship hall he hided behind high powered attorneys. When I addressed him these attorneys butted in every time. I told them to but off and let Tulian speak for himself. When that happened three times they had the audacity to turn off the microphone in order to get rid of me and silenced me. After that same
meeting Mrs. Kennedy and daughter were both “escorted” off the Church grounds and forbidden set foots on the ground. Talk about inappropriate take-over. Still hurting us. Our beloved Pastor D.James Kennedy preached the Bible including political awareness. This punk Tulian, probably a democrat, would NOT hear/talk about todays politics!!!

Why should he step down if she was having an affair?
He should divorce, declare life long celibacy and move to a Trappist Monastery in Alps of Europe and he will be happy.

My dad was pastor in a small country church and there was an attempt made to “set him up” in similar fashion. When he got the phone call to visit a (female) member who was “ill”, it felt hinky to him. He stopped to pick up one of the deacons on the way to accompany him. Thank Heaven.

Anyhow, Satan does whatever he can to attack effective soul winners and their credibility. He doesn’t bother with the others; he doesn’t need to.
