Billy Graham’s grandson steps down from Florida megachurch after admitting an affair

Billy Graham’s grandson Tullian Tchividjian has resigned from his pulpit at Coral Ridge Presbyterian, a high-profile church in south Florida, after admitting he had an affair. He released the following statement to The Washington Post, saying it was on behalf of him and his wife:

I resigned from my position at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church today due to ongoing marital issues. As many of you know, I returned from a trip a few months back and discovered that my wife was having an affair. Heartbroken and devastated, I informed our church leadership and requested a sabbatical to focus exclusively on my marriage and family. As her affair continued, we separated. Sadly and embarrassingly, I subsequently sought comfort in a friend and developed an inappropriate relationship myself. Last week I was approached by our church leaders and they asked me about my own affair. I admitted to it and it was decided that the best course of action would be for me to resign. Both my wife and I are heartbroken over our actions and we ask you to pray for us and our family that God would give us the grace we need to weather this heart wrenching storm. We are amazingly grateful for the team of men and women who are committed to walking this difficult path with us. Please pray for the healing of deep wounds and we kindly ask that you respect our privacy.

Took over D. James Kennedy's church (in Fort Lauderdale, FL) after Kennedy's death, changed the worship style and focus, ran off about a quarter of the members, and stirred things up.

Both Tullian and his wife had affairs. Wow. Sounds like that pulpit power went to his head.

Saw that elsewhere ( but not all the detail). We ought to pray for our pastors.

I Peter 4:17, Galatians 6:1, and I Corinthians 10:12 all come to mind. Instead of schadenfreude, we should tremble.

Prayers for Tullian Tchividjian and his family. This has to be difficult for all.

They can sound so meek and humble in these apologies, you’d think they’d have a more functional conscience.

Also a good friend of Steve Brown of Key Life.

Tragic...but not a surprise to God. Even in this, there is forgiveness and healing. He might never pastor again, but God does forgive totally.

I recall a story about Billy Graham and how he tried to make sure there was always a third person around if he was with a woman. And if in his office would leave the door open to the receptionist outside.

Part of it was to avoid anybody trying to falsely accuse him. But IIRC, part of it was to avoid any temptation that he might have. Wise man.

In our church it is a rule that you have to have two adults in the room with the Sunday School kids for that same reason.

Sounds like his wife started it. Sad people don’t give more consideration to their spouse and children.

Sad when marriage comes to something like that.

So what went to his wife’s head?

Billy Graham had, and I think his son Franklin does this now too, staff members check the hotel rooms first, making sure there isn’t a woman there hiding.... so as to pop up with reporters behind him—showing him walking in with a woman in his room.

It’s a sorry world we live in.

Tullian is a good man. Preached the gospel very clearly.

I really hate to read this. I held Dr. Kennedy in high regard and was greatly disappointed to see that this fellow was tearing down what Dr. Kennedy had built (through and with God’s Grace).

Who knows - stress of being a high profile pastor’s wife? I think they have at least three children. Sad.

The Grace of God is still available to all that ask for it

We can make the Grace of God go viral tonight ! All we have to do is tag this video clip with a short note from you (to whomever) and explain ..... it's not about guns, or flags or race ... it's the mind of Christ that CAN be had and some folks DO here

I posted something earlier today and I wanted to repost a portion now with some additional input.

“Evangelical Christianity backed away from civil disobedience to protect human life in the 1990’s to hit the more fashionable sins like racism and so on....of course racism is bad, but I think the compulsive addictive behaviors involving alcohol, drugs and sexuality permeate the religious subculture weakening its ability to meaningfully resist evil.”

I am a drunk (currently sober) and a former church officer, student evangelist and so on. I have learned that I am wrong and need to change my approach to life in general and sexuality among other things.

A friend came to me 25 years ago and told me I was acting like an alcoholic with the background I previously described. I did not want to believe him for almost 20 years, but I had a change of heart.

Glenn Beck, a sober drunk who has worked the 12 Steps, has reminded his listeners in recent years of the need to get their lives together, know who they are, clean up their acts and so on.

I can’t do anything about all this hypocrisy in the religious world but I have been able to do something about my own. God help us all to do that.

Best answer. There is another reason He uses the least of us the most. The reason we hear most is “to greater reveal His Glory”. I have a feeling there is another reason we hear much less about. If we “think too much of ourselves” we are too easily tempted. A “lesser man” might not even notice opportunities to stray that a “great man” can’t resist. I find myself frequently pondering poor Hosea. This pastor would have done well to.

he threw his wife under the bus and in a backhanded way, blames her for his affair....

just love, love, love these people that can't just state "I sinned" without also destroying others along the way, truth or not....
