Pope: Why didn’t Allies bomb railway lines to Auschwitz?

Francis laments that world powers did nothing to save Jewish, Christian, gays from Nazi death camps.

ROME — Pope Francis on Sunday denounced what he called the “great powers” of the world for failing to act when there was intelligence indicating Jews, Christians, homosexuals and others were being transported to death camps in Europe during World War II.

He also decried the deaths of Christians in concentration camps in Russia under the Stalin dictatorship, which followed the war....

I know the Pope has an armed body guard unit. That’s appropriate - perhaps a little hypocritical, however.

I know that it’s difficult to conceal carry in the summer - but the Pope’s costume is excellent garb for concealed carry.

So, I wonder if the Pope packs.

If so, does the Vatican have a shooting range?

These are really really obscure references.

From 178 heroes of the ETO

From 117 How easily you defame the men that brought victory over the Germans.

From 140 So saying men who risked their lives to liberate Europe from the Nazis, wouldn't want to do so to save Jews isn't defamation of the character and courage of those men?

From 148 so only planners weren't willing to risk their lives or the lives of the fighters for Jews?

From 153 I wonder what living vets from the ETO would feel about your libel.

From 144 To insinuate there was a method and it wasn't taken because the people who would be saved would be Jewish is another insult to the integrity of the men who did the fighting.

From 159 Allied soldiers lives were willingly risked and lost in the liberation of Jews and other concentration camp inmates.

From 163 you said the Allies didn't care about the Jews enough to lose people over them.

From 168 Again in what way other than ground assault were the Allies to affect the plight of the captives?

He was certainly not a hero of the faith, being an evil antisemite who wrote the blueprint for the Holocaust that the Germans implemented.

So you have claimed before on other threads using Nazis for witnesses while ignoring that a Pope of that era actually carried out expulsions. Must have been Luther's influence.

False accusations of libel on your part, couched in obscurity along with some kind of sympathy, it seems to me, for the notorious antisemite Luther.

Nine count them nine examples of poor reading comprehension. Stick to the thread subject, less 'seeming' that way. Less trouble with words "false' 'notorious'. More consistency on 'anti-semite'. Less 'obscurity' in general.

Physically: Because in the case of the Western Allies, it was not possible to conduct raids into Western Poland and return safely due to insufficient range. They would have to refuel in Soviet-held territory, which was not always possible.

Factually: Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden said that rumors of mass extermination of Jews could not be fully proven and as such raids were not ordered. That said, camps like Auschwitz-Birkenau and Mauthausen were centers of German war production, with slave laborers not immediately sent to the gas chambers working in armaments production or in mining industries.

These are really really obscure references.

Yes, those references are obscure, irrational, or false mischaracterizations of an imaginary libel, with the exception of the notorious Luther whom you insist on defending.

You began the mischaracterization in post 114, which was childish hyperbole.
" Yeah, the Allies didn't bomb the railroads because they wanted the Germans to kill all the Jews. They were willing to risk and lay down their lives for anyone else under German control but not Jews. "

There were no special raids or missions undertaken to rescue the Jews and other victims from the death camps. They were not a priority and were not attempted.

August 9, 1944

Hon. John J. McCloy
Under Secretary of War
War Department
Washington, D.C.

My dear Mr. Secretary:

I beg to submit to your consideration the following excerpt from a message which we received under date of July 29 from Mr. Ernest Frischer of the Czechoslovak State Council through the War Refugee Board:

"I believe that destruction of gas chambers and crematoria in Oswiecim by bombing would have a certain effect now. Germans are now exhuming and burning corpses in an effort to conceal their crimes. This could be prevented by destruction of crematoria and then Germans might possibly stop further mass exterminations especially since so little time is left to them. Bombing of railway communications in this same area would also be of importance and of military interest."

Sincerely yours,

A. Leon Kubowitzki
Head, Rescue Department

14 August 1944

Dear Mr. Kubowitski:

I refer to your letter of August 9 in which you request consideration of a proposal made by Mr. Ernest Frischer that certain installations and railroad centers be bombed.

The War Department had been approached by the War Refugee Board, which raised the question of the practicability of this suggestion. After a study it became apparent that such an operation could be executed only by the diversion of considerable air support essential to the success of our forces now engaged in decisive operations elsewhere and would in any case be of such doubtful efficacy that it would not warrant the use of our resources. There has been considerable opinion to the effect that such an effort, even if practicable, might provoke even more vindictive action by the Germans.

The War Department fully appreciates the humanitarian motives which promoted the suggested operation, but for the reasons stated above it has not been felt that it can or should be undertaken, at least at this time.

Sincerely,

John J. McCloy
Assistant Secretary of War

Sure they were, the 'heroes' referenced in context 9 times, terribly obscure! LOL.

with the exception of the notorious Luther whom you insist on defending.

LOL! Luther again?! I mentioned him before you did? 9 times dude.

You began the mischaracterization in post 114, which was childish hyperbole.

Just trying to keep up with a childish view of war that was being proposed.

Re: Your letters. A. Leon Kubowitzki must have attended the same art of war course as someone on this thread. Strong witness. Destruction of that crematoria would stop the burning of corpses from the all the other camps? Might stop further mass killings? How so? Evidence would be available at the end of the war? While I can sympathize with emotion, all A. Leon offers is maybes and mights. Stupid way to try to win wars.

The response by the Under Secretary was reasonable. 'Doubtful efficacy' is being kind. That is what war planning is for, attempting to expend resources that promise a return in line with the expenditure. Your pursuit of this line is very similar to the way the use of the A bomb is second guessed on the anniversary of its use. Past posting at its finest. Providing cover for another dopey Pope is just a bonus.

9 Aug 1944. Operation Overlord was 16 days from completion. Aug 7 German counterattack westward to coast. For two weeks Allied efforts directed against the German counterattack air and ground.

Germans in the open, lets divert air to Czechoslovakia to bomb a crematoria with 'doubtful efficacy' in the Soviet zone of action. Great strategic and operational thinking! I'm sure the Sovs would want a saturation raid in an active zone of theirs after the debacle during the Allied breakout so fresh.

There were no special raids or missions undertaken to rescue the Jews and other victims from the death camps. They were not a priority and were not attempted.

But the camps were liberated when it was practible to do so. Expending forces with little or no intel to rescue folks who needed massive medical care and lots of nutrition is beyond the scope of a raid by definition. Of course one would by necessity have to know what defines a raid. Special missions? So the nazis can add to their death total with little effort and get some Allied kill for good measure. Viewing WWII through a straw.

They were not a priority and were not attempted.

Nor should they have been, they would have detracted from the efforts which were successful because they were based on emotion and not on sound doctrine. Sounds a lot like the current Pope, sure you're not Francis or Luther?

One can see the love of those who volunteered to go behind enemy lines (only 30 miles, but they did something), after 2.5+ years of brutal captivity (but the US retreated, MacArthur gave his word, returned, and did something extraordinary to rescue his brethren, at great risk to the rescuers). They did not wait until it was practical. They took extraordinary measures, for which they are extraordinarily honored.

The Raid at Cabanatuan, also known as The Great Raid, was a rescue of Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and civilians from a Japanese camp near Cabanatuan City, in the Philippines. On January 30, 1945, during World War II, United States Army Rangers, Alamo Scouts, and Filipino guerrillas liberated more than 500 from the POW camp.

After the surrender of tens of thousands of American troops during the Battle of Bataan, many were sent to a Cabanatuan prison camp following the Bataan Death March. The Japanese transferred most of the prisoners to other areas, leaving just over 500 American and other Allied POWs and civilians in the prison. Facing brutal conditions including disease, torture, and malnourishment, the prisoners feared they would all be executed as General Douglas MacArthur and his American forces returned to Luzon. In late January 1945, a plan was developed by Sixth Army leaders and Filipino guerrillas to send a small force to rescue the prisoners. A group of over a hundred Rangers and Scouts and several hundred guerrillas traveled 30 miles (48 km) behind Japanese lines to reach the camp.

In a nighttime raid, under the cover of darkness and a distraction by a P-61 Black Widow, the group surprised the Japanese forces in and around the camp. Hundreds of Japanese troops were killed in the 30-minute coordinated attack; the Americans suffered minimal casualties. The Rangers, Scouts, and guerrillas escorted the POWs back to American lines. The rescue allowed the prisoners to tell of the death march and prison camp atrocities, which sparked a new rush of resolve for the war against Japan. The rescuers were awarded commendations by MacArthur, and were also recognized by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. A memorial now sits on the site of the former camp, and the events of the raid have been depicted in several films.

Nor should they have been, they would have detracted from the efforts which were successful because they were based on emotion and not on sound doctrine. Sounds a lot like the current Pope, sure you're not Francis or Luther?

Same as it ever was; Pope Francis is mocked because he is a Catholic who, in hindsight, wishes the Allies had tried extraordinary measures on behalf of the Jews, while Luther, who gave the Germans a blueprint for Krystallnacht and the death camps is stubbornly clung to. If one imagines himself to be a Christian, but hates the Jews, absolving himself by thinking they are not the least of the Messiah's brethren, another can understand the theological foundation of antisemitism and the rejection of the Second Great Commandment, eventually leading to this.

What shall we Christians do with this rejected and condemned people, the Jews? Since they live among us, we dare not tolerate their conduct, now that we are aware of their lying and reviling and blaspheming. If we do, we become sharers in their lies, cursing and blasphemy. Thus we cannot extinguish the unquenchable fire of divine wrath, of which the prophets speak, nor can we convert the Jews. With prayer and the fear of God we must practice a sharp mercy to see whether we might save at least a few from the glowing flames. We dare not avenge ourselves. Vengeance a thousand times worse than we could wish them already has them by the throat. I shall give you my sincere advice:

First to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly and I myself was unaware of it will be pardoned by God. But if we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know.

Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues. Instead they might be lodged under a roof or in a barn, like the gypsies. This will bring home to them that they are not masters in our country, as they boast, but that they are living in exile and in captivity, as they incessantly wail and lament about us before God.

Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them. (remainder omitted)

Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb. For they have justly forfeited the right to such an office by holding the poor Jews captive with the saying of Moses (Deuteronomy 17 [:10 ff.]) in which he commands them to obey their teachers on penalty of death, although Moses clearly adds: "what they teach you in accord with the law of the Lord." Those villains ignore that. They wantonly employ the poor people's obedience contrary to the law of the Lord and infuse them with this poison, cursing, and blasphemy. In the same way the pope also held us captive with the declaration in Matthew 16 {:18], "You are Peter," etc, inducing us to believe all the lies and deceptions that issued from his devilish mind. He did not teach in accord with the word of God, and therefore he forfeited the right to teach.

Fifth, I advise that safeconduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews. For they have no business in the countryside, since they are not lords, officials, tradesmen, or the like. Let they stay at home. (...remainder omitted).

Sixth, I advise that usury be prohibited to them, and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping. The reason for such a measure is that, as said above, they have no other means of earning a livelihood than usury, and by it they have stolen and robbed from us all they possess. Such money should now be used in no other way than the following: Whenever a Jew is sincerely converted, he should be handed one hundred, two hundred, or three hundred florins, as personal circumstances may suggest. With this he could set himself up in some occupation for the support of his poor wife and children, and the maintenance of the old or feeble. For such evil gains are cursed if they are not put to use with God's blessing in a good and worthy cause.

Seventh, I commend putting a flail, an ax, a hoe, a spade, a distaff, or a spindle into the hands of young, strong Jews and Jewesses and letting them earn their bread in the sweat of their brow, as was imposed on the children of Adam (Gen 3[:19]}. For it is not fitting that they should let us accursed Goyim toil in the sweat of our faces while they, the holy people, idle away their time behind the stove, feasting and farting, and on top of all, boasting blasphemously of their lordship over the Christians by means of our sweat. No, one should toss out these lazy rogues by the seat of their pants.

* * *

But what will happen even if we do burn down the Jews' synagogues and forbid them publicly to praise God, to pray, to teach, to utter God's name? They will still keep doing it in secret. If we know that they are doing this in secret, it is the same as if they were doing it publicly. for our knowledge of their secret doings and our toleration of them implies that they are not secret after all and thus our conscience is encumbered with it before God.

* * *

Accordingly, it must and dare not be considered a trifling matter but a most serious one to seek counsel against this and to save our souls from the Jews, that is, from the devil and from eternal death. My advice, as I said earlier, is:

First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss in sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire. That would demonstrate to God our serious resolve and be evidence to all the world that it was in ignorance that we tolerated such houses, in which the Jews have reviled God, our dear Creator and Father, and his Son most shamefully up till now but that we have now given them their due reward.

* * *

I wish and I ask that our rulers who have Jewish subjects exercise a sharp mercy toward these wretched people, as suggested above, to see whether this might not help (though it is doubtful). They must act like a good physician who, when gangrene has set in, proceeds without mercy to cut, saw, and burn flesh, veins, bone, and marrow. Such a procedure must also be followed in this instance. Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did in the wilderness, slaying three thousand lest the whole people perish. They surely do not know what they are doing; moreover, as people possessed, they do not wish to know it, hear it, or learn it. There it would be wrong to be merciful and confirm them in their conduct. If this does not help we must drive them out like mad dogs, so that we do not become partakers of their abominable blasphemy and all their other vices and thus merit God's wrath and be damned with them. I have done my duty. Now let everyone see to his. I am exonerated. "

Therein is the difference. 30 miles, indigenous support, jungle terrain, safe from observation on the egress. Support units that could cover their withdrawal as necessary. None of which was available or existed in the ETO. Not surprisingly, a bad example and analog.

(only 30 miles, but they did something)

The crux of collective problem of you and the Pope and lefties in general. 'Do something, anything even if it fails it will be worth it.' Thankfully no one like you was calling the shots.

Pope Francis is mocked because he is a Catholic

Pope Francis is rightfully mocked because he is a lefty, and his stature will help the left control individuals. He and like-minded people have no conception of what it took to wage WWII. The fact he is Catholic is the Catholics' burden. Some/most of them here are honest brokers and will call a spade a spade. Others are shameless shills no matter how foolish they look. 'Hindsight' and 'wishes' two attributes of leftist thinking along with the rainbow unicorn.

while Luther, who gave the Germans a blueprint for Krystallnacht and the death camps is stubbornly clung to

The blueprint for the Germans was the exact same thing the Catholic church had practiced through the ages on Jews. Nazis added death camps, otherwise they were in lockstep with the church. Pius V a sainted Pope from the 16th century expelled Jews. I await Francis' 'wish' in 'hindsight' that Pius V had not tried 'extraordinary measure on behalf of the Jews'. I'd even settle for your 'wish'. Instead you flog the Luther talking bush ignoring the actions of your own church.

Loving your neighbor doesn't mean one must commit suicide in a vain attempt to be there when they are murdered. But as so often seen, no discernment of Scripture, just like a Catholic, using it as a prop.
