That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.

Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.

There were many religions in different parts of the world before 1500. I just did a search. One site said the Catholics called dissenters heretics to shut them up. All I did was type in religions before 1500.

OK, I forgot the Old Testament.

I was talking about Jesus Christ.

I think my monthly donation is going to take a time-out. Squeaky wheels got the grease...to the detriment of Free Republic. Sad.

In post 343 you had just written against what you now advocate. Perhaps what you thought you were sure about is a bit more nuanced. Reread xzins' posts again; he is a bona fide Christian and Protestant like you. We can all learn from what he did here, on this thread.

"Holding Free Republic fundraising hostage to their demands is not only anti-free speech it is against the basic point of what this site stands for. These quarterly temper tantrums are getting old. It’s like demanding JR to go against his own principles for the sake of money.

If people don’t want to support this site because they don’t like what others might say about their religion, then they shouldn’t be here. They’re freeloading."

Actually, I agree with you. I’ve learned a lot in the religious forum debates. Yeah, they get out of hand sometimes but the RM usually gets a handle on it pretty quick. (I wouldn’t want the RMs job either). I’m not sure what particular action triggered this but there were some threads (Catholic and Prot), I would have locked out because they weren’t for informational purposes but a “My religion is better than yours) type of thread. But debates can be a healthy exchange of info on both sides, but each side has some thin skinned members and they become apparent.

Well, you asked Jim and he very directly refused to answer your question. So I think continuing to ask it at this point will get you no where.

Sometimes we have to take “No” as an answer. Not one we like, but it is an answer nevertheless.

I think you’re asking now just to argue against the whole premise. Because he’s not going to give you the answer you want—and it is obvious to everyone that that isn’t good enough for you.

My suggestion to you is go ahead and post articles you think are fair, and if they get removed, then you’ll know that Jim considers them bashing. If you continue to argue with him about it, I expect you’ll get banned.

No PRACTICING Catholic That means, any Catholic who knows the faith. It is a true statement. The catechism states it. All catholic theology states it

That is simply not true. As many RCs can tell you, historical catholic theology certainly does bash another religion, damning all to Hell if they are not in submission to the pope, though modern RC teaching redefines that.

I don’t appreciate your “swears.” If you’ve got questions as to how this all came about, ask Jim Robinson. His name is at the head of this thread.

Sheesh. The daily attack threads against Catholics was getting to be way out of bounds. Day after day, the same posters posting the same kind of garbage. It was sickening to me and I’m not Catholic.

You have previously posted that you do not visit the Religion Forum very often.

You want philosophical? "Christian Bashing," in my opinion, is forcing a moral equivalency between cultures to make a derogatory point when no such social equivalency exists. Using a few outlier examples to cast dispersions on the whole is the problem.

The debate is on how many makes an outlier versus a trend versus a pattern versus a norm.

You must be joking. The Catholics themselves have posted “Protestant bashing” threads for years, and are threads posted by Catholics about this socialist pope also banned? I will also add that the Religion Forum has been an incredible resource for me in theological matters. The RF will probably degenerate if censorship is now being imposed.

No I have not. That citation from the Catechism does not bash other religions. It states to baptized Catholics that they are to follow their religion

It simply does not bash other religions nor do Catholics

And I am not bashing anyone I am defending the faith against the earlier post which stated Catholics put down other religions. It is not in the tenets of Catholicism to do so

st distinguish heresy, apostasy, and schism270 - do not occur without human sin:

Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers.271
818 “However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . . . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church.”272

Did you pull your monthly because of Catholic bashing? Maybe none of my business but others have said they would donate or start monthly back and I was just curious?
