That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.

Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.

Thank you. I am actually just trying to determine if this kind of thread is also included. If so, Jim’s ban seems even handed.

Jim,

To my extreme disappointment I’ve actually seen it go both ways with Catholics posting blame to Protestants. For example, an alleged Priest blamed manifestations of the Protestant Reformation for the SCOTUS ruling on same-sex marriage. I posted that this condescension was uncalled for and out of order as pedophilia in many churches including Catholic churches left all with unclean hands.

The bashing both ways needs to stop and you are 100% correct to warn people about it but I would add that the warning should go both ways.

There is an educational benefit to posting of the hostilities among Christians but not in the continuation of hostilities but in expounding the history of such conflicts. Civil discourse of the historical basis for conflicts helps illuminate all sides of such conflicts.

Christians have killed and terrorized other Christians for centuries with a notable recent example of Sinn Fein in Ireland. The benefit of education is to understand how it is that disputes among Christians flow into militant groups that are looking for a fight, any fight and how to air such disputes without inciting violence.

I’ve never gotten involved in any of these threads. But I’m glad to see this. Catholics and Protestants are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Yes, we should be concentrating on what unites us. It is what Our Lord wants us to do.

How do those posts get out of the “relgious forum” and into the mainstream forum? I never knew there even was a relgious forum, but if there is one, then that’s where religious comments belong.

Religion is such a personal thing and it raises emotions to such a high level with some people that intemperate statements occur all too often in public debate.

I grew up in Texas where my mother’s folks were hard-shell Baptists and my father’s side of the family were all Methodists. I used to hear the arguments/beliefs of both sides and never really understood why the differences made such a big difference since they were both Christian sects.

I suppose that began my journey to a belief in the sanctity of all religions that are peaceful.

I’ve always been up front about it. FR is pro-God. That is the one true Judeo-Christian God of the Holy Bible. We will worship none other. And no false gospel shall be taught here as Truth.

And who exactly is the decider of what is false or true? You? do you REALLY want to take on that role?

The original statement seems clear enough, and the responses reinforce that.

It’s his site; he can make the rules.

Perhaps I have not been paying close enough attention to the “anti-Catholic” threads. But, actually, it seemed the opposite in my purview.

What is your gripe about that thread?
It’s not bashing another religion.

It’s interesting what you say; I never go to the religious forum section but I see these threads every day. If I didn’t see them, I probably wouldn’t look for them. Is it because there are many more religious threads posted today than when I joined?

Thanks Jim; great move.
We conservatives have much more in common we can focus on together.

Another dismissal and quite cowardly to boot. I probably agree with your purpose but your dismissive and smug attitude are something else. Can you express your “policy” in English, or are we supposed to be mind readers?

Your post on this thread about the pope is where most criticism of Catholicism seems to go. I may have missed or skipped the unfair threads you have in mind but I always find it curious when a “conservative” must rely generalizations and innuendo to express a viewpoint.

BTW, if God were not a part of FR, I would have left here just hours after discovering FR.

I haven’t posted in any religious threads I don’t think, but as a non religious person I don’t approve of bashing of any religion. Intelligent criticism is another story, but simply bad mouthing any religion for the sake of bad mouthing them or because you don’t agree with their theology is a bad idea.

I find the attacks on religion in general in this country to be very alarming. The US has adopted Christian morals and values for over 200 years, and the breakdown of those morals and values in the past 50 years is troubling. Atheist groups demanding anything religious be removed from public areas claiming it offends them, prayer in schools banned years ago, football teams being chastised because they pray on the field...and that just scratches the surface.

I find the insulting and ridicule of any religion unacceptable. As I said, thoughtful criticism should be ok, there is a difference. For example, I don’t agree with some of the positions the Pope has taken, but I don’t appreciate people calling him rude names because they don’t like his positions.

I think people should consider this. The golden rule, according to most of the world’s leading religions is the same. And great advice:

Treat other people the way you would want them to treat you. [paraphrased]

If you simply try to observe that advice, whether you’re a religious person or not, you won’t run around insulting people concerning religion or anything else.

Just ask yourself, would I want this person to do this to me? If the answer is no, don’t do it to them. Simple.

So I’m all for this, no religious bashing.
