JOHN MacARTHUR: MANDATED BY GOD

JOHN MacARTHUR NEEDS TO TALK WITH ROSALIND MOSS.

Before she became a Catholic, staff apologist Rosalind Moss used to be a member of John MacArthur's congregation, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. He runs a ministry called Grace to You. Its motto is "Unleashing God's Truth One Verse at a Time." The unleashing is done chiefly through a widely-syndicated radio program.

In a June letter to his ministry's supporters, MacArthur wrote about John Paul II and the "amazing release of emotion" that accompanied his death. "From politicians and media pundits to Hollywood celebrities and everyday citizens, everyone had praise for John Paul II, his gentle ways and his social and political achievements as a world leader and statesman. I can understand that.

"What I cannot understand," continued MacArthur, "is the response of some Evangelicals to what matters most about the pope: his beliefs about God and the gospel. … Influential leaders embraced the deceased pope as a brother in Christ and the Catholic church as just another Christian denomination. …

"During the Reformation, countless men and women died rather than deny the biblical truths of salvation. Countless others today are giving their lives as missionaries to people lost in the darkness and guilt of Catholicism."

MacArthur goes on to write about the "damning error" that is Catholicism and notes that he has released a new 90-minute lecture called "Unmasking the Pope and the Catholic System." He says that "the church I pastor is loaded with people who were saved out of the Catholic church. … A longtime Grace to You board member and dear friend of mine is a former Catholic. He speaks with great emotion about the bondage he and his wife lived under."

How many times have we heard these claims before? "The Catholic Church is not really Christian." "Catholics believe you 'earn' your salvation through good works." "Catholicism is based on guilt, not truth." "People are in 'bondage' to Catholicism–and we need to save them."

Each Sunday 7,000 people attend MacArthur's church. This is what he tells them about an institution that was around for nineteen centuries before he was born and that is now headed by a man who shows not a hint of MacArthur's arrogance. It is MacArthur who claims a divine commission: "I do have a mandate from God to compare what others teach to the gospel of the Bible." He says, "'Does the pope teach the gospel?' is a valid question."

Rosalind Moss left John MacArthur's church because she realized that, yes, the pope really does teach the gospel–and that John MacArthur does not.

The Grace to You ministry's letterhead has this slogan at the bottom: "The Bible Teaching of John MacArthur." Benedict XVI is more modest in his claims. His letterhead does not have at the bottom "The Bible Teaching of Benedict XVI" because the Pope is not trying to push his own agenda.

Instead, he is the custodian of what has been passed down through the centuries. His job is not to refashion the Bible in his own image but to convey to us what each of his predecessors conveyed to the people of their time.

Grace to You is built around one man. It may have many employees, but when John MacArthur dies, his ministry will die. His flock will scatter, taking with them the silly prejudices he has imbued them with.

When Benedict XVI dies there will be another pope to succeed him, and another, and another, until the end of time. Each of them will demonstrate to those with open minds and hearts that, yes, the pope does teach the gospel.

You post, I post, don’t take orders from a minion of Rome, especially one wearing short pants.

Show us where the word *eucharist* is found in Scripture and there Jesus told the disciples how to do it as we see in the Catholic mass today.

My “personal relationship” with Jesus Christ? At each and every Mass during communion. You can’t much closer than that.

Sure you can. You can have Him dwelling in your heart by faith 24/7 and without having to eat Him to have it done.

My “claims” are the gospel Tonto.

Can you point to a verse in the Bible where is clearly states Mary was immaculate or that she remained a virgin?

Do not infer that another poster has called Jesus a liar.

So not broad brush all non-Catholic/Orthodox believers as calling Jesus a liar.

Watch your posts carefully and discuss the issues all you want but do not make it personal.

If you do not wish to debate a particular poster, do not reply or post to them.

This is an open thread and there will be posters that disagree with you.

“My “claims” are the gospel Tonto. Give it a break. Like I said before you mangle the scripture to fit what you what it to say.”

The litmus test is whether you feel completely loved by Jesus if you did NOTHING.

There's no Scriptural "litmus test" that has ANYTHING to do with your "feelings".

Are you serious?? "Eucharisteo" is Greek for "thanksgiving," as in Matthew 26:27, "lambano poterion kai EUCHARISTEO ..."

I believe what metmom was indicating, please show in Scripture where eucharist is found as defined by roman catholicism where Christ is sacrificed again. That is not found in the New Testament.

Interestingly though, regarding the Bread of Life discourse, John only uses this word in John 6:23 and there it is in regards to Jesus feeding the multitude.

The only other place where the word is used in relation to the Lord's Supper is in 1 Corinthians 11:24.

In this passage we see Jesus representing His body by the bread and His blood by the wine.

In both cases He told us to do it in remembrance of Him and that everytime we partook we "proclaim the Lord's death until He comes." Acts 11:24-27

As He does not mention this is required for salvation we must conclude the roman catholic understanding of John 6 is also incorrect.

This is also illustrated in Luke 22:19 where He tells those gathered to "do this in remembrance of Him".

No, John makes it very clear what is required for salvation in John 20:31...these things have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Show us where the word *eucharist* is found in Scripture

I see what you did now....you took something out of context in what appears to be an attempt to embarrass someone.

As least have the intellectual honesty to put ellipses (that's from a Greek word btw) to indicate you cut and paste her post.

MM's post is correct....you cannot point to the word eucharist and find it's use in the Bible as defined by roman catholicism.

” Can you point to a verse in the Bible where is clearly states Mary was immaculate or that she remained a virgin? “

Surely you jest!

It is made up out of whole pagan fabric.

It never ceases to amaze how they twist Scripture to support what's not there. And when it can't be wrenched out of Scripture then the appeal to the consistently inconsistent ECFs.

” It never ceases to amaze how they twist Scripture to support what’s not there. And when it can’t be wrenched out of Scripture then the appeal to the consistently inconsistent ECFs.

It is a dilemma.

On one hand, they have many doctrines/teachings and practices that are pure paganism. They do not believe them and teach them because they originated in the scriptures.

Yet, by claiming to still be a church, they feel compelled to back into the scriptures and find some - any - support. Boy do they!

I point it out. They don’t ultimately care. They believe whatever their denomination teaches. They must. It is required. Instead of loving God with “all their mind”, they outsource it.

Despite this, I know there are some percentage of believers to be found in that denomination - as with Anglicans and Episcopols. Despite the accretions of pagan syncretism, God touches some. The wheat grows up amidst the tares.

Unfortunately, this is also true in evangelical churches. There are attendees who have never entrusted themselves to Christ. Never assume everyone believes.

We can speak. We can pray. The rest is up to God to open eyes and hearts.

The point is that God’s grace is not subjective or based on what you did, how much you gave, etc.

I was “born again” at the age of 15. I discovered the fullness of the Christian faith when I became a Catholic many years later. A contentment I had never known before. I had found the faith of Christ, the beauty of His church, and I pray daily for those that are still searching for the truth.

...yet you can’t say you know for sure that if you were to die tonight, you will immediately be in the presence of God and spend eternity in heaven??

Contentment is fine. We all like that.
It is not the same as eternal life. Do you have that?
Do you know for sure?

Do you know for sure?

That's the real question.....If you were to die today, do you know for sure you would go to Heaven?

John 20:31 answers how we can know.

but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ; the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

John echoes this again in 1 John 5:13.

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.

Once again your attempt to defend Rome (by attacking a reprove) backfires, this time by recourse to some conspiratorialist non-Catholic blogger, whom I am quite sure you would dismiss on that account if we used him, who attacks MacArthur.

Yet if his opinions are valid against MacArthur then you should know of his opinions against Rome.

Mike Gendron’s ministry exposes Roman Catholicism as a false religion.

According to another article titled, Baptists and Liberation Theology, “In 1975, the Baptist Association of El Salvador founded a theological school in Santa Ana…which created…an openness to both sides of the war and to cooperation with Catholics for the public good.” Three decades ago, the Baptist Association of El Salvador was finding common ground with Catholics for the public good. True Christians are to separate from evil. They are not to cooperate with evil for the “public good.

Examples of John Macarthur fellowshipping with false Christians are too numerous to mention. A forward to his book, “The Gospel According to Jesus,” was written by J.I. Packer, Senior Editor of Christianity Today, and a signer of the Evangelical and Catholics Together Documents I and co-author of ECT II.

Many at Grace Church believe CS Lewis was a great Christian apologist. I have heard at least one leader at Grace Church state that the works of JRR Tolkien are “Christian.” JRR Tolkien was a Roman Catholic and a close friend of CS Lewis, who was Lutheran. According to “Hermetic Imagination: The Effect of the Golden Dawn on Fantasy Literature,” the works of Lewis and Tolkein were strongly influenced by their friendship with the English novelist, Charles Williams, who joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in 1917. 90. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was a magical order in late 19th and early 20th century England to which many prominent figures belonged. This secret order, along with the Theosophical Society and the Rosicrucian Order, was one of the principle influences on 20th century occultism. - http://johnmacarthurexposed.blogspot.com/2009/10/transformation-of-john-macarthurs-grace.html

Actually, I could post some things I do not agree with MacArthur on, but which does not invalidate what he says about Rome.
