On the 30th annual World Day of Prayer, Pope Francis met with leaders of the worlds religions to pray for peace, insisting that God is a God of Peace. There is no god of war, Francis proclaimed during morning Mass, celebrated in the chapel of his residence in the Vatican. War is the work of the Evil one, the devil, who wants to kill everyone, the Pope said in preparation for a day dedicated to praying for peace.

As a Catholic, I am thoroughly embarrassed by this Pope. The cardinals need to throw him out.
Remember "God isn't a magician who can create something out of nothing".
Must not spend much time in the Old Testament.....Aramaic/Hebrew is hard.
...leaving no stone standing one upon the other...
Nice!

If Francis is serious, I expect to see the Swiss Guard disbanded by September 30, 2016.
Whoops, you’re right. But Joshua’s taking of Jericho is yet another example of God the tactician, taking a direct hand in waging war.
We are just finish a long study of Deut. with our Men’s Bible Study, and it has been nothing short of amazing! It all takes place in the last 5 weeks before beginning the war to conquer the Promised Land. In it all of the promises (good and bad)of God are re-iterated, then they are ready to fight to obtain the land promised to them by God. But they had to fight!
In this book we find the nature of God without the redeeming filter of Jesus. But the true nature of God is not changed by Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection - Jesus just paid the price of sin which we deserve.
I guess the Pope believe the nature of God has changed - NOT POSSIBLE!!
Or Revelation!
No disagreement at all with your contention of God directing war, anyone who has read the Bible should know that.
But there is a god of hell fire. Arthur Brown.
Below he shows himself to be so happy to be presented with a hammer & sickle desecrated crucifix that he also wore one around his neck:
“Then I saw heaven opened and here came a white horse! The one riding it was called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and goes to war.”
Old Testament?
Tragic, particularly given the persecutions and murder many Christians endure. The one Christian with a global audience has unilaterally disarmed in the face of evil.
Actually there are hundreds if not thousands of Gods of War:

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus. Dóminus Deus Sábaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra glória tua.
Hosána in excélsis.
Benedíctus qui venit in nómine Dómini.
Hosána in excélsis.
It is Satan’s but we war with Satan every moment. Until Jesus comes again to claim his one world authority on earth Christians are obligated to defend theirselves and their nations from their enenies. The Catholic Catechism is clear on this duty.
Has anyone told St Joan of Arc??? I`ll bet she`s pissed....
Revelation 19 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,d both small and great. 19And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
