The pastor of a central New York church where two brothers were beaten during a 14-hour "counseling session" pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter and assault.
Three other members of the Word of Life Christian Church in New Hartford agreed to less serious charges for their roles in the beatings that killed Lucas Leonard, 19, and injured his 17-year-old brother Christopher.
Pastor Tiffanie Irwin, her brother Joseph Irwin and mother-and-son church members Linda and David Morey are the last of nine people to be convicted in the brutal attack that investigators say took place after the victims discussed leaving the congregation.

I understand what you are saying...but I have to disagree. This is not the main reason people in this country are being driven away from Christ. The majority of the issue lies with what happens in every day brick and mortar churches...the lack of sound doctrine...sin run amok...no accountability...and an obsessive self-centeredness where the congregation and the church leadership have lost the passion for the lost and the Great Commission of Christ.
And I say this as a 22 year pastor. I am preaching a 4 part message on Jude right now...and that book deals with false teachers in the church.
False teachers have ALWAYS been a problem in the church....since the days of Peter, John, Jude and Paul...who all addressed the problem. If charlatans like this "pastor" were the only issue...we would not have an issue. Our issue is much graver...and systemic.

I have no idea who these people even are. I just read the article and saw the boy wanted to leave and was beaten to death for *gasp* wanting out. That is not only so wrong it sounds like Islam. This is America and you should be allowed to attend any church you wish, as an adult be it right or wrong. All you can do as a parent is pray for your kid.
Was shocked also that some articles called this church a “small” church in New York. Have you seen that building? That is freaking huge. Would hate to see what New York calls large.
BTW...note to self, if it feels weird it probably is! This is the information age and has been for a long time. Do your homework. Do back ground checks on these people. Find the dirt. Do what it says in the book of Matthew “Be as wise as the serpent”.

The ‘pastor’ I referred to has worked in primarily blue collar areas in New England.
He figured out early on that he would do the minimum amount (deliver the Sunday sermon) for subsistence pay & housing.
I’m aware this is not a true Christian church. My gut reaction to the thread was that it was posted by a Catholic in order to lump these charlatans in with true Christians and consequently deride non Catholics.

I mean the abuse stories I’ve read involving beatings...the pastors were men, the perps in the church were men. I’m actually shocked at this story that the pastor was a woman and she ordered the hit.
