A Vatican whodunnit [Catholic Caucus]

In Agatha Christie’s classic Murder on the Orient Express, the great detective Hercule Poirot faces an unusual challenge. There are too many suspects—too many people with obvious motives for committing the crime.

That’s how I feel about the news that Archbishop Charles Brown, the apostolic nuncio in Ireland, is being transferred to Albania.

This is not a subtle move. The Vatican is explaining that it’s just a routine rotation; every now and then papal diplomats are given new assignments. That would make sense, except that:

+Archbishop Brown is not a career diplomat. Pope Benedict sent him to Ireland, at a time of crisis for the faith, precisely because he trusted his orthodoxy.

+When nuncios are moved, they are usually sent to assignments of equal or greater importance. A switch from Ireland to Albania is an unmistakable demotion.

Who would have wanted Archbishop Brown removed from Dublin?

- The Irish government, which is working to end the constitutional ban on abortion? Check.

- The Irish bishops, who don’t want pressure to act like Catholic leaders? Check.

- Liberal Irish priests, for the same reason? Check.

- The lavender mafia, always? Check.

- The Secretariat of State, which resented having a non-diplomat appointed as nuncio? Check.

- Pope Francis himself, who’s busy removing all Ratzinger loyalists? Check.

Too many suspects.

I remember the liberal Irish clergy were already bellyaching about Archbishop Brown the day he was ordained. I had actually forgotten about him, and am surprised it took this long for him to be neutralized.

As to the “whodunnit?”, I select:

But only the pope had to power to transfer him. And we all know that Francis does his own thing.

We MUST love Catholics enough to say the truth: we cannot stand by and see them lost!

Penance, and good deeds WILL NOT SAVE YOU!
Going to Mass WILL NOT SAVE YOU.
Mary will NOT SAVE YOU!
Baptism will NOT SAVE YOU: look at the thief on the cross- did he say a rosary? Was he baptized?

The ONLY thing that will save you is repentance of your sins, and calling upon the Son of God, Jesus the Christ.
Remember on Calvary, when Christ said, “It is finished!”, the veil of the temple was torn from TOP to BOTTOM. This means that YOU, yes you and me, have Direct Access to God, thru His Son, Jesus the Christ. You DO NOT need a priest to find eternal life!

Call upon Him right now. Test Him; He will speak to your heart...
“Dear Lord Jesus, help me. Show me Your truth. Help me to know You as Savior. Thank You, Holy Lord. I ask this in Your name; Jesus Lord and King. Amen”

Not much mystery here: Brown was appointed by Benedict in response to a report on Irish sexual abuse cases; his reassignment was pushed by an Irish heretical group called the Association of Catholic Priests, linked to the Fine Gael party, which has supported gay marriage in recent years:

The association was established in September 2010 with the claimed objective of having "a forum, and a voice to reflect, discuss and comment on issues affecting the Irish Church and society today".[1] One of its founders was Fr Tony Flannery who, in April 2012, was disciplined by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith for questioning whether Jesus Christ had instituted the priesthood. His brother Frank Flannery is a former General Secretary of the Fine Gael party. . .The ACP says that it accepts the Creed and that it does not seek to overturn the defined teaching of the Catholic Church but these are questionable claims given its attempts to undermine settled Church teaching on issues like adultery and contraception. . .Members of the association have been censured by the Roman Curia. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) placed restrictions on the association's founder, Fr Tony Flannery who is a member of the Redemptorist Congregation.[4] He was advised by Rome to go to a monastery where he might "pray and reflect" on his heterodox views and his role with the association. His monthly column in the congregation's monthly magazine, "Reality", has been discontinued. Restrictions have also been imposed on the magazine itself and its editor, Fr Gerard Moloney. . .Since that time, it has emerged that three other priests have also been silenced: Marist priest Fr Seán Fagan, Capuchin priest Fr Owen O'Sullivan and Passionist priest Fr Brian D'Arcy.: Association of Catholic Priests

"A group which claims to represent almost a third of Ireland’s Catholic priests has severely criticised papal nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown over his selection of bishops. It just stopped short of asking for him to be replaced. The Association of Catholic Priests (ACP) said it was “reluctant to call for Archbishop Brown’s removal” but felt it “instructive that his appointment was a central part of Rome’s response to the problems of the Irish Church”. There was also what it described as “an apparently haphazard policy of appointments to distant dioceses that pays little regard to the traditions and heritage of a diocese; and the choice of candidates who seem to be out of sync with the realities of life in Ireland today and uncomfortable with the openness of Pope Francis to change and reform the Church,” it said.": Papal nuncio ‘out of sync’ with Irish reality, say priests: Catholic Priests rail against Archbishop Charles Brown over selection of bishops (08/19/2016)
