The Silence of the Lambs: Are Protestants concealing a Catholic-size sexual abuse scandal?

It was a hot day in July, a Saturday afternoon, and Kim James was bored. Her older sisters had taken her to a church event in their small hometown in Indiana, where the girls were spending their summer. Her parents were back in Bangladesh, working at the remote Baptist missionary compound where the family had lived, on and off, for five years. For an adventurous and high-spirited 13-year-old like Kim, Indiana seemed dull compared to Bangladesh. She missed her friends, the dozen or so missionary kids everybody called “MKs.” She missed the menagerie her parents let her keep: goats, cows, a parrot, a monkey. She missed the jackals that called in the distance at night, and the elephants that sometimes crashed through the compound fence.

As she thought about the mission, though, Kim felt troubled. Something was weighing on her mind. So she decided to skip out of the church event—it was for little kids, anyway—and go see the pastor. She found him in his office, trying to compose the next day’s sermon. Kim ambled around his desk, picking things up, putting them back down. Eventually, with feigned casualness, she pointed between her legs and said, “Is it wrong when someone does this—touches you here?”

The pastor dropped his pen and looked up. “Kim,” he asked, “has this happened to you?”

At first, Kim said no. But as the pastor gently persisted, she began to sob. Yes, she had been touched, there and there, lots of times.

The pastor asked Kim who had touched her.

Uncle Donn, she said.

You are not even close. If I told you who had the worst sex offenders in their religion you’d flip

Don’t give me that crap, it’s going to take all of us to end abortion in America. It really hurts my case when Cecil Richards down there at PP says “Well Christians have abortions” and I know she’s telling the truth. We have to pull together and stop this, this is why I post these stories.

Your concern for your own church on your threads seems oddly lacking, Morgana. Start worrying about that and you’ll be given less “crap” as you put it.

Have posted threads on my church, that is if someone else has not beat me to it. Usually there are several other FReepers here, won’t name names but they post the articles before I can. If I post a second time will get chewed out by mods so just find something else pro life to post.

Fair enough. Question, though. If I were to post almost exclusively only articles critical of the Catholic Church, what would you think?

Do you see the problem there?

Folks,I believe in God and Jesus but the religious world of today in my humble opinion is not of God. In my opinion they are as corrupt as government, scribes and phrases. I really believe that and I beg for God’s forgiveness if I am wrong. I personally have seen to much wrong doing in the churches I personally have attended. I have worked as a public servant, elected representatie and in the church and it appears no one cares about the honor that is bestowed upon us in those areas.I ask for your prayers and God’s forgiveness. I have been the chief estate of sinners in my life but have tried to be honorable in my dealings with the public outside of one area and I won’t mention that, God knows but it was not stealing.

They post stuff like this all the time, no matter what church the abuse happens in.

Yet the potential for sexual abuse is actually exacerbated by the core identity of fundamentalist groups like ABWE. Like Catholics, fundamentalists preach strict obedience to religious authority. Sex is not only prohibited outside of marriage, but rarely discussed.

Meaning if cared for like in the school environment this abuse/harm would not occur.

Has Media Ignored Sex Abuse In School? - CBS News

Yet, during the first half of 2002, the 61 largest newspapers in California ran nearly 2,000 stories about sexual abuse in Catholic institutions, mostly concerning past allegations. During the same period, those newspapers ran four stories about the federal government's discovery of the much larger — and ongoing — abuse scandal in public schools.

You notice that to find out what’s going on in America’s public schools you have to read the Daily Mail UK? They sure tell you. Every day a new case of child sex abuse. More and more it’s a female teacher too! Sometimes have seen as many as three (3) stores posted in one day on that news forum.

Who are these people doing this and why the sudden surge? Certainly don’t remember this happening when I was in school. What is different? What changed? I want to go back to the 80’s or 70’s when things were not this crazy.

Granted, these are older figures, but I'm sure if an update can be located, that it would mirror these statistics.

In fundamentalist and evangelical churches -- sexual abuse
Other non-Catholic churches and sexual abuse

It’s the general moral breakdown of our society as we move away from the Judeo-Christian ethic.

We are reaping what was sown in the 60’s or before, even.

Yet the side bar (based on a few investigative glances i should not do) has soft porn.

Never happened in my schooling either, but the teachers today are overall products of the 60's revolution, inspired by the original rebel, and these proxy servants did as he did, climbing up some other way to power, taking over the admin office, and promoting perverse alternatives to what God has ordained.

In rebellion against, and in contrast to Americans early evangelical ethos. .

While iniquity was always a significant part of America, it was generally held as shameful and overall resisted by Church and State. Early on, in a pamphlet for Europeans titled Information to Those Who Would Remove to America (1754), Benjamin Franklin wrote, in part:

“ ...serious religion, under its various denominations, is not only tolerated, but respected and practiced. Atheism is unknown there; Infidelity rare and secret; so that persons may live to a great age in that country without having their piety shocked by meeting with either an Atheist or an Infidel. And the Divine Being seems to have manifested His approbation of the mutual forbearance and kindness by which the different sects treat each other, and by the remarkable prosperity with which He has been please to favor the whole country.

Was listening to our pal Tommy Sotomayor yesterday when he reminded me of something I knew but kinda “forgot”. Most children of sex abuse have no fathers in the home this is why they are preyed upon. Joe Paterno from Penn state? Yea, all the single moms brought their sons to him looking for a “father figure” and look what happened.

Well I thought about it, all the women going after these boys in public schools maybe it’s the same thing? No dad to protect them too? Or maybe they were raised by a single mom and somehow they are warped? Don’t know but feel that somehow no father in the home has something to do with all this crap happening.

Your thoughts?

I know being fatherless is a major detrimental factor, and one that Scripture in particular focuses, and what you surmise has some merit.

But overall what i think what we are seeing are the result of teachers raised in the sexual revolution, out of colleges that are largely brothels, and thus see nothing wrong with fornication with anyone.
