Yes, Sharia and Catholicism are essentially identical, if you overlook all that business about stonings, amputations, wife-beating, death for apostasy, institutionalized discrimination against non-believers, and the rest.
And as for Sharia courts, when they were established in Britain, officials repeatedly assured the public that they would only cover private matters on a voluntary basis, and that cases touching on criminal matters would be referred to the British courts. This did not happen, specifically regarding spousal abuse cases, since the Qur’an calls for the beating of women “from whom you fear disobedience” (4:34), and yet spousal abuse is illegal in the UK. Australia and other non-Muslim countries should learn from Britain’s example and not establish Sharia courts. However, any learning from experience in this regard will no doubt be denounced as “Islamophobic” and discarded.
Oh, and Ms. Triggs, it’s “Sharia’s no different from Catholicism,” not “Sharia’s no different to Catholicism.”

If sharia is no different than Catholicism, then why do they oppress one and promote the other?
The British (and Australians, I guess) use "different to," while Americans use "different from." What is always wrong, everywhere, except Mordor, is "different than."

You know, I may not be a big fan of Roman Catholicism as it’s currently practiced, but I’m pretty bloody sure that there’s a BIG difference between Catholics and Islamists.
