Luther would be horrified by the world he forged

The brilliant German monk never intended to start his own Church

A few years ago, a Lutheran friend sent me a link to her favourite website: Lutheran Satire. The brainchild of a US Lutheran pastor, it focuses on Church humour from a Lutheran angle. The goal is catechesis through comedy, and no issue or religious leader is too sacred to poke. One of the site’s most popular videos is a cartoon called “The Reformation Piggybackers”. The plot is simple: Luther nails his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg church...

“Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church”

NOT “Roman Catholics”.

Your programming, drone, your programming.

You can't see how wrong you are...but even if you did see it I seriously doubt you'd admit it.

Keep on with the flattery though. Every time you post it I take it as: MORE WINNING!

“The East West Schism.”

1054. Almost no impact on the modern world since most of the Orthodox world was culturally retarded by Islamic domination or other examples of eastern despotism (e.g. Tsarist Russia). The simple fact is that the Orthodox world was east of Poland and that part of the world (at least the Christian part of it) had almost zero influence on the shaping of the modern world from a Christian or secular point of view. In essence, they didn’t show up until 1917 and that cannot be called “the Christian part of it” but Bolshevism.

It is remarkable how little Protestant know and understand about history.

“You can’t see how wrong you are...but even if you did see it I seriously doubt you’d admit it.”

“Holy Roman Church” in Latin is NOT “Roman Catholics” in English. I’m not wrong on that - or anything else we have discussed here.

“Keep on with the flattery though. Every time you post it I take it as: MORE WINNING!”

More programming, drone.

Pope Innocent III (A.D. 1198 – 1216): “With our hearts we believe and with our lips we confess but one Church, not that of the heretics, but the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, outside which we believe that no one is saved.” (Denzinger 423)

I typed it slow so you can keep up.

“You can’t be serious....”

Oh, yes I am. Have you not ever noticed that the same countries that were Eastern Orthodox are still so today WITHOUT THE ADDITION OF ANY NEW ONES?

What great Eastern Orthodox movements have there been that have swept the world?

NONE.

What great wars ranging over numerous countries have erupted because of disputes over Orthodoxy?

NONE.

What modern state was established with Orthodoxy as its supposed foundation in an area which never had it before?

NONE.

I’m not picking on Eastern Orthodoxy. I’m just correctly noting that until very recently in history, Eastern Orthodoxy was found only in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and those areas were cut off from the great developments of the Western World by despotism and Islam. Those countries were backward, poor, largely illiterate, had no outreach to the rest of the world, no colonies or much exploration except for Alaska, N. California, and Siberia.

The Orthodox impact on the modern world - for better or ill - has been almost nil.

Sounds like you just described a lot of Roman Catholic countries.

You continue to argue semantics to avoid the issue that you were wrong. Very Clintonian.

“You continue to argue semantics to avoid the issue that you were wrong. Very Clintonian.”

You continue to claim that different words in different languages are the same thing to avoid the issue that you were very wrong as usual. Very Protestant.

“You can’t even come up with original material.”

I’ll stick with what’s true. You keep inventing things that aren’t true. Drone work.

“LOL. More WINNING!”

More programming.

“Sounds like you just described a lot of Roman Catholic countries.”

Some, certainly, but don’t forget, where are those countries? Latin America. Not “Greek” America - since there is no such thing. Others are in Africa - where there are hundreds of millions of Catholics and where there were no Orthodox south of the Sahara until the last century or so. The Orthodox were in Africa in the Middle Ages. Why did they never get south of the Sahara? Islam.

Thanks for helping to make my case yet again. Luther did indeed helped forge the world we live in. So did the Catholic Church. The Orthodox never even got suited up until the two minute warning.

I gave a quote from a Roman Catholic source. You have a problem with it, take it up with them.

The point went right over your head as I figured it would.

“I gave a quote from a Roman Catholic source. You have a problem with it, take it up with them.”

The problem is not the source. It’s what you’re falsely saying about it. You are saying one thing is another when it isn’t. You’re actually saying “Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church” in 13th century Latin is somehow the same words as “Roman Catholics” in modern English. I already posted the evidence - FROM PROTESTANTS - that the phrase “Roman Catholic” was invented by Protestants.

So you have not found even one, single source that says what you’re claiming. NONE.

“The point went right over your head as I figured it would.”

No, it didn’t. I simply took what you posted and used it to prove you wrong yet again. You posted a comment about poor and illiterate Catholic countries after I mentioned that’s what Orthodox countries were not that long ago. I took your comment and used it to show that there were no new Orthodox countries established in the last however many centuries (7, 8, 9?). The Orthodox have had essentially no hand in forging the modern world. That’s just a fact.

And, apparently, that went right over your head.

Again, your problem, among many, is with the source of the post....not what I posted. Perhaps you should contact the website and correct them if you believe it is wrong.

“Again, your problem, among many, is with the source of the post....not what I posted.”

Nope. The source is not a problem at all - except for you because it doesn’t say what you need it to. Again, “Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church” in 13th century Latin is NOT “Roman Catholics” in Modern English.

“Perhaps you should contact the website and correct them if you believe it is wrong.”

You’re claiming it says something different than what it actually says is what is wrong. I’ve pointed that out. The problem is your false claim and not the source of the quote. The quote says what it says - and that is not what you claim it says. It literally says not what you claim it says.

Argue all you want. Your problem, among many, is with the website in question. Take it up with them.

“Argue all you want. Your problem, among many, is with the website in question. Take it up with them.”

You keep saying that even though I don’t even know what the website is. Oh, you might have mentioned it at one time or another, but it was completely inconsequential since the quote did not say what you keep falsely claiming it did.

That’s what’s so funny about your posts in this thread. You keep posting quotes that DON’T SAY what you keep claiming they say and you think I have a problem with the quote (the quote doesn’t matter) and now the website (I freely admit I don’t since it doesn’t matter). You’re not only beating a dead horse, but the wrong dead horse.
