Are Tennessee Church Shootings Jihad? Evidence points to alleged shooter being a Muslim convert. The suspect arrested on suspicion of shooting up three Christian churches in Shelbyville, Tennessee appears to be a convert to Islam, a critically important detail that the incurious mainstream media has not been reporting. Wendell Tobias Buchanan, who turned 36 in August, is being held in the local county jail on $500,000 bond. Buchanan was taken into custody last Saturday (October 1), Pamela Geller reports, …shortly after he was seen driving by Horse Mountain Church of Christ on Horse Mountain Road, which was hit on at...

Emanuel Kidega Samson, 25, of La Vergne, Tennessee, was charged with felony homicide and was being held without bond. Other charges are coming later, police said. His next court appearance is Wednesday. The Justice Department and FBI have opened a federal civil rights investigation into the shooting, and police said they were still trying to establish the suspect’s motive. Local police also requested the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to run an “urgent trace” on a firearm, an ATF representative told CNN. The trace would give authorities an indication of where the gun was purchased,...

A lawsuit filed by a group of women alleges that the University of Tennessee has violated Title IX regulations and created a "hostile sexual environment" through a policy of indifference toward assaults by student-athletes. The federal suit filed Tuesday in Nashville states Tennessee's policies made students more vulnerable to sexual assault and says that the school had a "clearly unreasonable response" after incidents that caused the women making complaints to endure additional harassment. The suit also states the university interfered with the disciplinary process to favor male athletes. [...] The suit was filed by David Randolph Smith, a lawyer representing...

"Church-speak" – Strange Things Church People Say Msgr. Charles Pope February 3, 2016 Many groups have a tendency to use words that make sense to their members but are unintelligible to outsiders. I have sometimes had to decode "Church-speak" for recent converts. For example, one time I proudly announced, "RCIA classes will begin next week, so if you know anyone who is interested in attending please fill out an information card on the table just outside the sacristy door." I thought I'd been perfectly clear, but then a new member approached me after Mass to inquire about the availability of...

The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 11/24/14 | John Bingham
Sunday morning is an inconvenient time for church services because people are busy shopping and doing DIY, the Church of England has admitted. Worshippers are increasingly turning their backs on the centuries-old practice of attending worship on Sundays because of other leisure and social “commitments”, it said. The admission came alongside new figures showing that attendances at midweek services in cathedrals have doubled in a decade while numbers in the pews in parishes on Sundays continue to fall. The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Reverend Adrian Dorber, said many people still crave quiet reflection, but are seeking out less “pressurised”...

Joel Osteen might be focused on positivity and prosperity, but folks coming to hear his sermon on Sunday had to drive to Lakewood Church seeing some pretty negative signs. Members of the Westboro Baptist church were seen along the roads to the church and the signs they were waving at the drivers were very inflammatory. According to KHOU on Sunday, the Westboro Baptist church members shouted their message through bullhorns surprising the congregation members who call Lakewood Church their home.

A Church Near Ground Zero Reimagined St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Designed by Santiago Calatrava By Ralph Gardner Jr. Oct. 15, 2014 8:54 p.m. ET It took two hours of talking with architect Santiago Calatrava—we touched on rock climbing, the Swiss cheese dish raclette, Rembrandt’s self-portraits and New York City’s tradition of great civic architecture—before I realized how appropriate the placement is of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which will overlook the 9/11 Memorial. And not just because it’s the rebirth of the church, a fixture in the neighborhood since the 19th century until it was destroyed by the collapse...
