Florida Keys deputies Wednesday morning shot and killed an off-duty federal law enforcement officer who they said pointed a semi-automatic rifle at them. The deputies shot Lane Morgan Caviness, 48, at a house near mile marker 95 in Key Largo around 10:42 a.m. Eastern time. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt said deputies were at the house after receiving reports of an armed, intoxicated, suicidal man. Caviness was a commercial airline pilot who was also a sworn law enforcement officer with the Federal Flight Deck Officer program, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Air Marshal Service,...

A flight from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles on Thursday was diverted to Oklahoma City after an unruly passenger assaulted a flight attendant, police said. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), "An intoxicated passenger became disruptive, causing a security concern" during a Delta Air Lines flight from Washington to LA. The TSA told FOX Business that during the flight, air marshals "intervened to protect the safety and security of the flight crew and passengers." The man, identified by police as 35-year-old Ariel Pennington, was arrested once the plane landed in Oklahoma City on charges of disorderly conduct and public...

A scandal-plagued “VIP” program that provided members of Congress with Federal Air Marshals (FAM) often yanked from high-risk fights has been canceled after Judicial Watch exposed it earlier this month. As a result, hundreds of FAM are sitting idly at airports around the U.S. because the “VIP missions have stopped,” according to a federal law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the situation. A veteran air marshal who asked not to be identified said “the Washington Field Office in Washington D.C. was almost exclusively dedicated to VIP services for Congress.” Another longtime FAM told Judicial Watch he was deployed on...

A woman was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a Federal Air Marshal on a flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Virginia on Saturday. Dana Mustafa, 27, of North Carolina, was aboard a United Airlines flight bound for Dulles International Airport when flight attendants reportedly caught her smoking inside the lavatory, according to Fox 5. When they told her smoking was not allowed and asked her to return to her seat, Mustafa became upset and claimed she was going home to see her family but they had just been killed in a car accident. “A Federal Air Marshal then observed Mustafa leave...

A mishap that led to a flight crew not being notified of the presence of two federal air marshals on board a United Airlines flight in August prompted concerns of a possible hijacking, according to a newly released report. Through a public information request, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS obtained an incident report from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport police, which details the confusion aboard United Airlines flight 3531 from Newark to Minneapolis the night of Aug. 20. Two armed federal air marshals were among the 64 passengers on United flight 3531. However, neither the flight attendants nor the pilot were aware marshals...

Proposals to arm teachers and other staffers to better secure schools against mass shooters are worthwhile, just as arming pilots was following 9/11, said Chad Robichaux on Thursday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight in an interview with hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak. Robichaux is a former Special Agent with the U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS). His work with the FAMS included the development and implementation of the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program — including training the first wave of armed pilots following 9/11 — after the Islamic terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which screened, trained,...

Small, fast and wickedly agile, the Soviet-designed MiG-21 was an extremely potent warplane. For two decades it formed the backbone of the Indian fighter force. We spoke to Air Marshal M Matheswaran (retd) about what it was like to fly and fight in the MiG-21. When did you first fly a MiG-21 and what were your first impressions? I began flying the MiG-21s in 1976. At that time it was the prime aircraft in the Air Force. Quite obviously it was great to selected to go into a MiG-21 squadron. First impressions – fascinating, sleek, and fast. What were the...

Two days later, he led U.S. Marshals on a chase along Interstate 10 that ended with him trying to run down a deputy and then jumped into the...
