K thru 4 Houston School Cites The United Nations Pledge For Peace!
My husband | 10/29/01 | vanity

Posted on 10/29/2001 5:41:37 PM PST by demkicker

Last week, my husband's company sent him (with other fellow employees) over to Carroll Academy (423 W. Gulf Bank - Houston, TX 77037 - Phone: (281) 878-0340. The ocassion was Red Ribbon Week, which is a "Don't Do Drugs" program. My husband and his fellow employees were waiting in the school's office for the morning announcements to commence before getting their first group of students. What happened next was shocking.

A woman started the morning announcements and then proceeded to say, "Now we'll recite the United Nations Pledge For Peace." Not, the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America! My husband managed to contain himself knowing that making a scene at that particular time and place would only make things worse. He couldn't wait to get home and tell me about it to see if my reaction matched his.

That night, I searched the internet to see what the UN Pledge said, but couldn't find it anywhere. My mistake was typing in "Pledge to the United Nations". The next day, I called the school under the guise of a possible move into the district. I told the lady who answered the phone that I heard they recited something "really neat" about the United Nations, and asked if she could fax me a copy.

I don't know if the principal (Kenny Ryan) got suspicious or what, but he got on the phone while the woman was looking for a copy to fax to me and asked if he could help me. I told him the same story and inquired about the United Nations Pledge and asked if they recited it everyday. I'm happy to report that he said they didn't, but that they were reciting it all week because they were doing "a unit" on the United Nations and that they planned on incorporating more international studies units, advocated by the United Nations, into their cirriculum.

When I asked if this United Nations "unit" was in Social Studies, he said yes, but that they were incorporating it into other subjects as well and gave math as an example!

FYI, this school is in a run down part of town, between Interstate 45 and Airline Road on Gulf Bank. The school is mainly made up of minorities and the principal told me that they pride themselves on their bilingual education program. They even call it The Carroll Academy of International Studies! My husband said that he noticed the artwork, posters and pictures in the school pertained to foreign counties.

Now, take a deep breath and read:

THE UNITED NATIONS PLEDGE FOR PEACE

I pledge in my daily life, in my family my work, my community, my country and my region, to:

Respect all life
(Respect the life and dignity of each human being without discrimination or prejudice)

Reject violence
(Practice active non-violence)

Share with others
(Share my time and material resources to put an end to exclusion, injustice, and political and economic oppression.)

Listen to understand
(Defend freedom of expression and cultural diversity)

PRESERVE THE PLANET
(Promote responsible consumer behavior)

Rediscover Solidarity
(Working together as one unified world)

I am absolutely horrified and disgusted that ANY school in America would want their students to recite the United Nations Pledge For Peace.... EVER! I am especially offended that this school picked this particular time, while we are at war, to indoctrinate these unfortunate children!

If I didn't put in killer hours at my full time job, I would love to have the time to make a huge stink over this! I'm sorry to say that even though I've fought many educational battles in my lifetime (won many, and lost a few), this is my baton handoff to those FReepers who have the time and energy to spread the word about this incident. Good luck to those who can make an effort and a difference.

My kids would not be in that school anymore. They would be home schooled, properly.

The UN Charter was modelled after the Soviet Constitution. That is all you need to know about your future government.

"If I didn't put in killer hours at my full time job, I would love to have the time to make a huge stink over this!"

Got enough time to turn off the TV for a half-hour to write a letter to the editor of the local "mainstream" daily - and whatever semi-dissident weekly any city Houston's side undoubtably has?

Got enough time to spend 15 minutes more phoning your local school board member - and telling him that this kind of brainwashing will mean active opposition against the school district's next tax hike referendum?

Please take a few minutes to look up your state education code. Copy the section that says schools are supposed to instill patriotism in the children--yes, even in California we have that in our Ed Code, your state probably does too. If you wanted to, you could check the classrooms. In the California state ED Code it says there must be a flag hanging in every classroom.

Document the violations. If you like you could contact a legal group like the Texas Justice Institute, or Pacific Justice Institute and ask them to write a letter informing the district they are violating the Ed code. Some of these groups will do it gratis. Bring some friends to a school board meeting and present your facts and the law. Be sure to speak specifically with any local reporters at the meeting and emphasize the district is BREAKING THE LAW. Step back and hope for the best. You'd be suprised at the response you get when you bring the law into the discussion. It won't take that much of your time, and BTW, I think the future of our country is worth it, don't you?

Ugh! And people think that Osama is the greatest threat to U.S. security? At least with Osama we KNOW that the only choice is to fight. Not so with the U.N., who instead of resisting, we instead hand them the reins of power with a smile on our faces as they worm their way into our nation, subverting us from within bit by bit. Like lambs we go to the slaughter house. One day we're gonna wake up and find the flag of the United Nations waving over the White House.

I've managed to find the time to shout it to everyone and anyone who will listen, including making several phone calls to some influencial people. I've also spent time posting this announcement on this thread so that you would know about it. And FYI, I don't live in Houston, so cannot call my "local school board member" about it.

Tell me, how are YOU planning on participating in getting the word out?

Seems to be lots of bizarre news coming out of Texas lately.

I think it is a globalist backlash. Texas stands defiant. And so, the children of Texas need particular focus.

Was this a private school or a public school? It sounds like a private, or maybe it was a charter. Either way, you can tell they're doing it to protest the Bush administration.

I don't know if the principal (Kenny Ryan) got suspicious or what, but he got on the phone while the woman was looking for a copy to fax to me and asked if he could help me.

THis tells me that they KNEW they were doing something wrong and had a contingency plan in effect to deal with people who were "on to them"

I know you said you have "killer hours" but what about the parents of your childrens' friends? Can you at least alert them to this? can you get together on the weekends and take an aactive role in your child's education, instead of letting total strangers (LIBERAL strangers, at that!) brainwash your kids?

THE REASON LIBERALISM HAS TAKEN SUCH A TOLL ON OUR COUNTRY IS BECAUSE WE HAVE ALLOWED LIBERALS TO INDOCTRINATE OUR CHILDREN IN THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THEIR LIVES___THEIR EDUCATION!!!! WE CAN NOT TAKE A PASSIVE ROLE IN EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN ANY LONGER!!! IT MAY MEAN LESS "FREE TIME"" DURING THE WEEK OR THE WEEKENDS, BUT WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY IS AT STAKE!!!

"Was this a private school or a public school?"

It's a public school. The lady I spoke with called it a magnet school and said that most children who went to the school were from that area, but indicated that some were bused in.

Texas Yellow Rose

Maybe they should teach their children this song instead of that pledge.   It's amazing how many school children don't know our song... Back in the "dark ages" when I was in school, we sang this song every morning before the pledge (grades 1 - 6)...

The Texas State Song: "Texas, Our Texas"
Hear Our State Song: (Sound icon) (6K .mid file)

"Texas, Our Texas," the official state song of Texas, was adopted by the Legislature in 1929 after being selected in a state-wide competition. It was composed by William J. Marsh of Fort Worth. The lyrics were written by Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright.

The song is comprised of three verses and a chorus, as follows:

"Texas, Our Texas"

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

(chorus)

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
