Help - I Just Flunked HTML Bootcamp!
self | 16 Dec 2001 | Grumpster-Dumpster

Posted on 12/15/2001 9:04:11 AM PST by grumpster-dumpster

Could someone give me some simple advice in a 1-2-3 format on how to post a picture?

I have an original jpeg picture in a file on my hard drive (C: Drive) but cannot seem to get it posted in the forum (even when I use the < img src="?" > html.)

Any simple step-by-step help on how I can get this picture from point "A" (My C: drive) to Point "B" (a reply to a post) will be appreciated.

WOW! When I wrote down the "img src=" html...and previewed this post the little image box with a x in it appeared...so why can't I get the real picture to post?

You can't link to anything on your hard drive. It needs to be at a web accessable site.

You cannot post a picture directly from your hard drive to the internet. The img src command directs the computer to find an image on the internet. Since your picture isn't on the internet, it doesn't show up.

Pictures that you want to post can be stored on a web site, on a commercial storage service such as Photopoint, or in one of the free areas some servers like AOL give users.

Hope this helps!

Img src is short for "Image source," and the source needs to be an FTP or a website.

Go to a free web-site provider like geocities or angelfire and sign up for a free home page. Upload whatever pics you want to post. Use your HMTL to link to the pic on that page. Also remember pics need to be in jpeg or gif format.

Good luck!

I can't really help you with that, I know that there are free sites that let you store images, but I'm not that advanced.

Hold on, I'm sure some more expierenced Freepers will show up to help.

I sent the following advice to a couple of people recently, hope it helps:

How to post pictures .

If I'm being too simplistic here forgive me ,I don't know how much HTML or 'net stuff you already know so I'll keep it simple.

Firstly, the picture has to be on a website somewhere, you can't display it from your hard drive(I know,Duh) There are a lot of free websites out there ,http://www.cityslide.com/default.cfm is probably one of the easiest to use,go there and set up a personal home page, everything is done with wizards(not Harry Pothead)including uploading photo's.

Once you have your site up and your photo's uploaded,Right click on the photo you want to post on FR,left click on properties, highlight the full URL of the photo, and right click and copy it.
Now, go back to FR(if you weren't already there)decide where you are going to post it,and type exactly like this: *img src ="URL here"*Replace asterisks with open and close tags<> replace URL here between the quotes with the URL you copied earlier.Hit preview and your picture should appear as if by magic.

Any other questions ,let me know also check out the HTML bootcamp and sandbox features at FR,lotsa good advice there.

Since you've already gotten the scoop on posting pics, I'm just going to pass along this site for other questions. It helped me tremendously with learning HTML.... funky-chickens.com

You cannot post a picture directly from your hard drive to the internet.

Please don't tell people you cannot do that. When I started on HTML, somebody told me that I couldn't. I took it as a challenge and posted a pic from my hard drive. How about saying "you should never post pictures directly from your hard drive."

Five simple steps.

1. Print it to color printer

2. Cut out picture

3. Apply past to back of picture

4. Place picture on screen

5. Adjust location before glue dries

If we were able to see a picture from your hard Drive I (or at least a hacker) would likely see everything else on your HD too.

HGC-Could I get some info as to how you posted directy from your hard drive?

To ALL: Now that I have the picture in a photo-site... If I remove the photo from the file (at the photo site) will it still appear in the "Thread" to which I posted it? Or will the photo no longer load here?

Thanks again for all the hep!

That used to work but neither geocities nor angelfire allow links to their pictures any longer.
