The BBC's Director General George Entwistle has stepped down tonight in wake of Newsnight sex abuse scandal. He made the statement outside New Broadcasting House alongside Lord Patten, the chair of the BBC Trust. The explosive announcement came hours after the editor-in-chief was humiliated live on air by one of his own presenters today over the Newsnight report that wrongly implicated former Tory treasurer Lord McAlpine in child abuse.

The European Commission and top German politicians are becoming increasingly exasperated with both France and Britain as the summit in Brussels to determine the EU budget for the seven-year period from 2014 to 2020 approaches. Both countries have been insistent on getting their way as member states position themselves for what promise to be difficult talks—and both London and Paris have threatened to veto the budget if it doesn't meet their expectations. At 4:45 a.m. today, after 21-hours of non-stop ballot copying and counting, Democratic candidate Patrick Murphy defeated Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West for the District 18 congressional seat. The final tally — still considered unofficial — put Murphy ahead of West by 2,429 votes. Overall, Murphy captured 166,799 votes to West’s 164,370 in District 18, which spans portions of Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties. An automatic recount is triggered by a margin of 0.5 percent. Murphy’s lead gives him a .7 percent advantage. All ballots in Martin and St. Lucie counties have been counted.

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A photojournalist for CBS 5 San Francisco was beaten and robbed of his camera by a group of young men in Oakland following a live newscast report Wednesday. Photographer Gregg Welk and reporter Anne Makovec had just finished their noon report on the passage of Prop 30 in front of Oakland Technical High School on the 4300 block of Broadway. After the live shot, an unknown number of men rushed up, punched Welk and grabbed his camera, according to CBS 5 Communications Director Akilah Bolden-Monifa.

Outgoing CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus’ resignation over an extramarital affair was reportedly held until after Tuesday’s election to avoid “potential embarrassment” for President Barack Obama, according to Newsmax. FBI agents learned of the affair while monitoring Petraeus’ emails out of concern that the woman, Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell, may have had access to his personal account, the Associated Press reported. Gaza terrorists hit an IDF jeep with an anti-tank missile early Saturday evening. The IDF Spokesman announced that four soldiers were hurt. IDF Radio said that on soldier was very seriously wounded and another soldier suffered moderate-to-serious wounds. Both were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva. The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman with whom he was having an affair sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode. The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.

Drew Rosenberg became a victim of San Francisco's immigration policies on Nov. 16, 2010. The second-year law student was riding his motorcycle in rush-hour traffic when a car driven by an unlicensed driver made a left turn and hit him. In looking at the voting data from Richmond, Virginia, an observer is struck by a few things. First is that Mitt Romney and Barack Obama were running neck-and-neck for the first several precincts. Even in heavily democratic precincts, Romney was still garnering around 25-30% of the vote. Then, all of a sudden, all in order, starting with Precinct 213, Obama received: 90.30% of the vote, then 95.91%, then 89.62%, then 94.68%, then 97.49%, then 94.16%, then 95.09%. Before these Obama numbers began, Romney had gotten over 30% of the vote, and after they finished, Romney shot back up to 23%....
