The United States could lose its top credit rating for the second time from a leading agency if there's a delay in raising the country's debt ceiling, Fitch Ratings warned Tuesday. Congress has to increase the country's debt limit, which effectively rules how much debt the U.S. can have, by the end of February or face a potential default, Fitch says. There are fears that the debate will descend into the sort of squabbling and political brinkmanship that marked the last effort to raise the ceiling in the summer of 2011. Outgoing U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner warned then that...

Posted: January 11, 2013 04:12 PM From: Representative Daryl Metcalfe To: All House members Subject: Right to Bear Arms Protection Act I am currently having legislation drafted that is similar to firearm legislation recently introduced in Wyoming. My legislation would prohibit the enforcement of any new federal restriction, prohibition or registration requirement for firearms, magazines, and ammunition. My legislation would also require the state to intercede on behalf of Pennsylvania citizens against any federal attempt to register, ban or restrict the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products. I hope you will join me...

I was curious if anyone here knows or has met someone who voted for Obama in the last election and now regrets it? Or, having voted for a third party due to not liking Romney (for whatever reason) and regrets that?

Be sure you participate! http://www.guncontrolmorecrime.com/ I didn't really mean to use the term "Left" in such a general sense. I know that there are people on the "Left" who support the cause. We welcome you; it's one of the reasons I try not to play the Party Politics game on YouTube. It's hard to avoid this, because while it's true that everybody on the Left is not anti-gun, it's hard to find a serious anti-gunner who is NOT on the far left politically.

Napoleon, who was a brilliant strategist, often told subordinates that they should treat the pope as if he had 200,000 men at arms. In other words, the answer to Stalin’s cynical remark—“How many divisions does the pope have?”—was about ten, give or take, and they were extremely loyal and prepared to die. This didn’t stop Napoleon from kidnapping Pius VI in 1799 when he refused to give up temporal authority (Pius died in France a few weeks later partly because of his imprisonment). His successor, Pius VII, believed in democracy and signed a Concordat with the “First Consul,” soon to...

Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III declared in an exclusive Newsmax TV interview that President Barack Obama could easily be impeached if he bypassed Congress and enacted gun-control legislation by executive order. Meese's comments came on the same day President Obama told the White House press corp at the last news conference of his first term that he was reviewing actions, including issuing executive orders, where he could take action without congressional approval to confront gun violence in the nation. Obama said he would present a plan within days. The options include stronger background checks, a meaningful ban on...

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law on Tuesday a sweeping package of gun control measures, significantly expanding a ban on assault weapons and making New York the first state to change its laws in response to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school. Mr. Cuomo signed the bill less than an hour after the State Assembly approved the legislation on a 104-to-43 vote. The State Senate approved the measure, 43 to 18, on Monday night. The expanded ban on assault weapons broadens the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and...

In “Queering Schools, GSAs and the Law: Taking on God”--an excerpt from the book The Gay Agenda: Claiming Space, Identity & Justice--a law professor at the University of Manitoba calls for changes in “state-issued law and policy approaches” to ensure that Canadian schools, including Catholic schools, become “queered.” “The most effective approach would call for laws, policies and programs that mandate curriculum and educative responses to transform the schooling experience of all students,” writes Donn Short, who discusses “the reach of the law and the ability of the law to take on what sits as the major social norm and...

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) is threatening to file articles of impeachment against President Barack Obama if he institutes gun control measures via executive order. “I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” Stockman said in a statement Monday, according to the Daily Caller. The Weekly Standard reported that Obama used the final press conference of his first term in office Monday to offer some details on Vice President Joe Biden’s expected gun control recommendations: “My understanding is the...

Rizana Nafeek was a child herself -- 17 years old, according to her birth certificate -- when a four-month-old baby died in her care in Saudi Arabia. She had migrated from Sri Lanka only weeks earlier to be a domestic worker for a Saudi family. Although Rizana said the baby died in a choking accident, Saudi courts convicted her of murder and sentenced her to death. On Wednesday, the Saudi government carried out the sentence in a gruesome fashion, by beheading Rizana. Rizana's case was rife with problems from the beginning. A recruitment agency in Sri Lanka knew she was...

In his first press conference of the year that very closely resembled a territorial stakeout, President Obama addressed a national audience Monday speaking largely to an impending debt ceiling crisis. “America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills that they’ve already racked up,” Obama declared. If Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling, the president warned the consequences could be dire-delayed social security checks and veterans’ benefits, for starters. President Obama also mentioned potential disruptions to compensation for troops and small business owners, and even “food inspectors, air traffic controllers and...

The Alaska Moose Federation said motorists and moose have been getting a break on the roads this winter compared to last season. When a collision does occur, volunteers with the organization respond to the scene removing the carcass and delivering it to a person or charity in need of the free meat. “You have a potentially a 1,000 pound moose and all that meat is just sitting there and there's nothing wrong with it at all,” said Ryan Bombini, a volunteer with the Alaska Moose Federation. The Alaska Moose Federation has more than 3 dozen volunteers statewide who pickup moose...

The White House has condemned anti-Semitic remarks by Mohammed Morsi, the Egyptian president, who once described Israelis as the “descendants of apes and pigs”. Mr. Morsi’s slurs, which emerged in recordings from 2010, were termed “deeply offensive” by Jay Carney, Mr. Obama’s press secretary, who said concerns had been raised with Egyptian officials. Mr. Carney urged Mr. Morsi, who has promised to respect Egypt’s decades-old peace treaty with Israel, to promptly state publicly that he respects people of all faiths. … Jewish groups have sharply criticized the remarks and said they raised troubling questions about the future of America’s delicate...

Police have arrested a man who allegedly threatened the Wisconsin Capitol on his Facebook page and then told officers he had a molotov cocktail in his backpack after entering the building. The arrest occurred Tuesday afternoon, just hours before Gov. Scott Walker was scheduled to deliver his State of the State speech to lawmakers at the Capitol. Police closed one entrance and evacuated a portion of the building as they investigated the contents of the man's backpack outside.
