Hello. My Name is Cold War Veteran - Submarines and I’m a Drudgeadholic. It has been almost 24 hours since I’ve visited that site and I’m feeling ok. My sponsor told me that it would be hard at first but I feel I’m making it. I just couldn’t keep feeling sick and tired reading that once great site. I have removed it as my home page, replacing with Breitbart which feels strange but I’m getting used to it. Now that I have accepted my addiction and taken steps to move in a much better direction including Free Republic, Liberty Daily,...

The intellectual class across the West—encompassing its universities, media, and arts—is striving to dismantle the values that paced its ascendancy. Europe, the source of Western civilization, now faces a campaign, in academia and elite media, to replace its cultural and religious traditions with what one author describes as a “multicultural and post-racial republic” supportive of separate identities. “The European ‘we’ does not exist,” writes French philosopher Pierre Manent, assessing the damage. “European culture is in hiding, disappearing, without a soul.” The increasingly “woke” values of the educated upper classes reflect, as Alvin Toffler predicted almost half a century ago, the...

The first data from an experiment in a California city where needy people get $500 a month from the government shows they spend most of it on things like food, clothing and utility bills. The 18-month, privately funded program started in February and involves 125 people in Stockton. It is one of the few experiments testing the concept of “universal basic income,” an old idea getting new attention from Democrats seeking the 2020 presidential nomination. Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs has committed to publicly releasing data throughout the experiment to win over skeptics and, he hopes, convince state lawmakers to implement...

Elizabeth Warren's campaign has fired its national organizing director, Richard McDaniel, after "multiple complaints regarding inappropriate behavior," the campaign said Friday. "Over the past two weeks, senior campaign leadership received multiple complaints regarding inappropriate behavior by Rich McDaniel," Warren communications director Kristen Orthman said in a statement. "Over the same time period, the campaign retained outside counsel to conduct an investigation. Based on the results of the investigation, the campaign determined that his reported conduct was inconsistent with its values and that he could not be a part of the campaign moving forward."

Removing salts from brackish water using graphene-based membranes is being conducted by researchers from the University of Manchester and Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, in a bid to tackle water scarcity. Reverse osmosis, which requires large quantities of water to be forced through a membrane, is a popular method to remove high content of salts; however, bodies of brackish water, with lower salt content, require more efficient methods. The team of researchers developed new ion-selective membranes incorporating graphene oxide, for use in electromembrane desalination processes such as electrodialysis and membrane capacitive deionisation, which drives ions in...

President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that he intends to send a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stating that, until the full House votes to authorize the chamber's ongoing impeachment inquiry, the administration will not comply with subpoenas and other demands for witness testimony and documents. Trump and Republicans—who've been daring Pelosi to vote on the matter—believe that such a move would put vulnerable swing state Democrats in a tough spot and force members to more officially go on the record, as all but a handful of House Democrats support an impeachment inquiry into Trump. The White House has...

The court of protection has ruled that a man who cannot understand the issue of consent must be allowed to pursue sexual relationships. Mrs Justice Roberts ruled that the man, who has autism with impaired cognition and lives in a supported residential placement, has a “fundamental right to sex”. The court considers issues relating to people who might lack the mental capacity to make decisions. A clinical psychologist submitted a report saying that the 36-year-old man, referred to as JB, represents a “moderate risk” of sexual offending to women, particularly to those who are vulnerable, and that JB cannot understand...

Commenters on YouTube are divided as to whether the lights are UFOs or just flares used by the military. The latter is plausible, given the proximity of the Outer Banks to multiple military facilities, including Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg in Eastern North Carolina. “I know what those lights are,” posted Derrick Chennault on YouTube. “As a former Marine based at the 2nd Marine Air Wing in Cherry Point, N.C. ... we used to regularly drop flares out of the back of our plane in the evenings for military exercises... Glad to see the Marines are still spooking people.” Guy...

Roberts...Wenchan Zhao, Francisco Garcia-Oscos and Daniel Dinh, used "optogenetic manipulation"—where light is used to monitor and control brain activity—to guide the learning of songs. They controlled the interactions between two regions of the brain in order to create memories of syllables of a song—the length of a note corresponded to the length of light exposure. As a result, they guided the learning of the zebra finch with these implanted memories. Roberts said they did not implant the song—just the length of the syllables. This is just one pathway involved in vocalizations. If they can uncover the other circuits that control...

The White House on Friday issued a proclamation that would halt migrant entry into the U.S. if the person is pursuing a visa and "will financially burden the United States healthcare system." Migrants will be considered people who will burden the system if they are not covered by approved health insurance within 30 days of entering the country unless they have enough money to "pay for reasonably foreseeable medical costs." It does not affect people already holding a valid immigrant visa and does not affect migrants entering the U.S. through other ways including lawful permanent residents. The change also includes...

Cavernous docks can shelter warships, with miles of tunnels, offices, and a hospital Sweden’s navy HQ is returning to a vast underground cold war fortress designed to withstand a nuclear attack, in what has been seen as a defensive move against a resurgent Russia. After a 25-year absence, the navy will once again be commanded from beneath billions of tonnes of granite as the country strives to build up its defences in response to the perceived threat from Moscow. The top secret naval base on Muskö, about 25 miles (40km) from Stockholm, resembles a cross between Tracy Island from Thunderbirds...

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation Friday that will require immigrants to prove they can obtain health insurance before they are issued a visa. The proclamation — the latest in a series of moves that would restrict immigration — says immigrants must demonstrate they will have health insurance within 30 days of entering the country or that they can afford to cover any medical expenses. The White House touted the proclamation as "protecting health care benefits for American citizens," arguing that uninsured immigrants create a financial burden for hospitals and doctors, forcing them to charge higher fees for Americans to...

Presidential Proclamation on the Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Will Financially Burden the United States Healthcare System October 4, 2019 Healthcare providers and taxpayers bear substantial costs in paying for medical expenses incurred by people who lack health insurance or the ability to pay for their healthcare. Hospitals and other providers often administer care to the uninsured without any hope of receiving reimbursement from them. The costs associated with this care are passed on to the American people in the form of higher taxes, higher premiums, and higher fees for medical services. In total, uncompensated care costs — the...

‘Biden looks like he can’t compete with Warren, Bernie and Buttigieg. How’s he going to compete with Trump?’ said one GOP strategist. Joe Biden’s middling $15.2 million third-quarter fundraising haul is raising fresh questions about whether the former vice president’s campaign can withstand a new onslaught of Republican ad attacks while simultaneously waging a battle for the Democratic nomination. Biden’s campaign has long framed his candidacy around the idea that he can beat Trump in a head-to-head contest, particularly in the battleground states that were central to Trump’s 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton. But Biden’s polling numbers in the Democratic...
