“Sound Doctrine or Itching Ears?” (2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:5) Our text this morning is the Epistle reading from 2 Timothy. In his two letters to his young assistant Timothy, St. Paul emphasizes, over and over again, the importance of teaching in accord with sound doctrine. For instance, Paul instructs Timothy to “follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me” and to “guard the good deposit entrusted to you.” Likewise, today he says to “continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed.” Paul puts a high priority on sound doctrine. It is in...

Joseph Sinawa feels like he's fighting an uphill battle against the state of Florida. He's being forced to pay child support despite a DNA test proving he is not the biological father. "I signed the birth certificate because at the time I believed I was the biological father," said Sinawa. He says the child's mother is even okay with him not paying child support because she doesn't want anything to do with him, but the state is forcing the issue. "She told the judge she just wants this to be done and over with, and so do I," he says....

In a trailer for Kanye West's Jesus Is King that dropped Saturday, the rapper states, "We're here to spread the gospel. I'm not here for your entertainment." Following a passage from the Bible (Mark 1:15), West states in a voice over, "I'm an evangelist, so my music, my films, every conversation, every room I go in, we're here to save souls, save you from eternal damnation."

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina - a onetime 2016 Republican presidential contender who often clashed with Republican nominee Donald Trump throughout the campaign - voted for independent candidate Evan McMullin for president on Election Day. During a recent interview with Business Insider, Graham said he voted for the conservative McMullin, an ex-CIA operative and House Republican policy leader who entered the race in August. "Well, I voted for Evan," Graham said. "He shares my view of the world, he was on the ballot, and I couldn't go where Trump was taking the party, and I certainly couldn't go where...

I am a baby killer. I stopped mid-step on my way into my office in Manhattan, and that thought scrolled through my brain yet again: “I am a baby killer.” It was an April day this year, nine weeks after I ended my child’s life. I decided to keep walking. That is a choice I have to make every day: Give up or keep moving. I have been choosing the latter, over and over again. I consider myself “pro-life.” But that phrase is heavy with multiple meanings. Like “pro-choice.” I identify with both of those terms. I am a walking...

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) on Friday introduced a resolution that would require the committees overseeing the impeachment inquiry to allow outside members of the House to have access to the proceedings, depositions and transcribed interviews. Its introduction comes after a group of House conservatives attempted to gain access to a closed-door impeachment hearing on Wednesday. The conservative lawmakers were rebuffed because they did not sit on the House Intelligence Committee, House Foreign Affairs Committee or the House Oversight and Reform Committee. "The stakes are too high for Chairman [Adam] Schiff [D-Calif.] and Speaker...

Attorney General William Barr delivered one of the most exceptional speeches in modern memory at the University of Notre Dame recently. Judging from his detractors, it seems his remarks landed heaviest on those mystified by the idea of religious neutrality. Barr began his remarks by noting that his office not only defends the free exercise of religion, but also guards against “states misapplying the Establishment Clause in a way that discriminates against people of faith.” He invoked the words of the Founding Fathers to demonstrate that the authors of the Constitution believed that a moral standard was essential to the...

President Trump said Saturday that he will no longer host the G-7 Summit at his struggling Miami golf resort — but blamed the media and Democrats for his about-face rather than concern over an appearance of self-dealing. Trump made the announcement in a trio of evening tweets, lashing out at his Democratic rivals and at press opposition — including from the New York Post — to his holding the summit at Trump National Doral. “I thought I was doing something very good for our Country by using Trump National Doral, in Miami, for hosting the G-7 Leaders. It is big,...

Sometimes the obvious just slips by you. This is one of those times. Crowdstrike reportedly didn’t determine that ‘Russia’ hacked Hillary’s emails until June 2016. So how could Australia’s Alexander Downer know that ‘Russia’ hacked her emails in May 2016? The dates just don’t add up. In May 2016 George Papadopoulos was contacted by Australian Alexander Downer and told you that Russia had Hillary’s emails. But Crowdstrike didn’t investigate Hillary’s emails until June 2016 when they somehow claimed that the Russians had hacked into the DNC.

Even Mayor de Blasio’s pals at Hot 97 are laughing at his now-defunct presidential campaign, and for good reason: The latest fund-raising numbers show what a complete joke it was. He only pulled in $333,045 over the last three months of his four-month bid, after raising $1.1 million in the first six weeks. And at least three-quarters of his cash came from big donors — most of them, people plainly looking for favors from city government, or repaying de Blasio for favors already received. Going to class is not required to receive a city diploma. It’s not widely advertised, but under Department of Education rules, students cannot be denied credit or graduation “based on lack of seat time alone.” Under state law, school districts may adopt a “minimum attendance standard.” New York City does not. While city schools must take attendance, kids can still pass or be promoted even if chronically absent, which is missing more than 10 percent of days.

Several lawmakers — including a handful of 2020 Democrat candidates — are recognizing National Period Day in order to elevate “the issue of period poverty,” lamenting that it is “outrageous” that some “people” do not have access to basic menstrual products due to their gender identity. Organizers planned events across the country and encouraged activists to spread awareness online by using the hashtags #NationalPeriodDay and #PeriodPower. A few 2020 Democrat candidates took their cues. “In detention centers and in prisons, in big cities and small towns, women across America don’t have access to the period products they need,” former Texas Rep. Beto...

Canada's fifteenth prime minister, with its future twenty-third prime minister (at left) and his younger brothers on Remembrance Day in Ottawa. The topper is a quintessentially Trudeau touch: When Ministers of the Crown still wore Court dress, he didn't; when ministers ceased to wear Court dress, he dusted his off. On the weekend before Election Day, Canadians are observing the hundredth birthday of the alleged Father of Our Country - Pierre Elliott Trudeau, born in Montreal on October 18th 1919. Those of a suspicious bent will feel vaguely that the climax of the son's re-election campaign and the centennial celebrations...

The Santa Monica Police Department said they received reports that a young man pepper sprayed four or six people at the pier at about 1:20 p.m. It's unclear if that's the same person seen being detained after the incident. The crowd, some holding Trump flags and U.S. flags, others holding orange posters that read "Trump Pence Must Go" appeared to be involved in an argument before the cloud is seen spreading through the panicked crowd.
