The doctor defended himself with his shotgun and his sidearm, a 10 mm pistol.Block grant land in Montana is privately owned land on which the landowner has signed a contract with the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks (FWP). The contracts vary but provide access to...

Grizzly bear downed at 10 feet by Jimmy Cox with a 10mm pistolU.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- – The 10mm pistol caliber is gaining supporters as a suitable pistol caliber for defense against bears. The caliber has long been known as an excellent pistol hunting cartridge. In this correspondent’s study of the use of pistols in defense, eight cases have been discovered where 10 mm pistols were used to defend against bear attacks. Six of those cases were with the 10 mm only. One case was in combination with a .340 Weatherby magnum rifle, and one case was in combination with a .45...

First developed to combine the attributes of the 9mm Luger and the .45 ACP, this round is now one of the best handgun hunting cartridges made for semiautomatics. Handgun shooters know that two of the most popular calibers are the 9mm Luger (Parabellum) and the .45 ACP. The latter is slow but makes a big hole, while the faster 9mm tends to lose energy quickly once it hits the target but shoots fast and flat. In a perfect world, a gunmaker would bridge these two rounds to make a fast and hard-hitting bullet. It is this very idea that led...

Love it or hate it, the vaunted 10mm has definitely been enjoying a resurgence of late, we also like to shoot and argue about guns. Here are some of the top 10mm handguns out there capable of taming this underrated beast of a cartridge. Colt Delta Elite Colt stepped up in 1987 after the original Bren Ten went out of production and introduced this 10mm pistol. The Colt Delta Elite was for the 1911 followers, re-designed to fire the 10mm cartridge. It was the best of both worlds: a gun worthy for personal-defense but powerful enough to take hunting. Glock...

If you're looking for a powerful cartridge for your semi-auto handguns. Then it boils down to a couple of choices. The 10mm and the .45 ACP. Both of these are widely popular so many will have a difficult decision to choose. Some folks that have the money will get both. However, for this scenario we need to choose one. Even if you do own both a 10mm Auto and a .45 ACP handgun, how do you know which one is best for certain task? Both of their capabilities overlap each other but their characteristics and traits differ. Each has distinct...
  • Which is Better? - 10mm or 357 Magnum

Yeh, I think most gun enthusiasts understand how powerful both these handguns are. For the non-gun educated, the term .357 magnum itself is enough to bring fear into their minds. Both the Glock 10mm and the .357 magnum are serious personal defense calibers. Which caliber is best against real muscles or something that simulates it? YouTuber mark3smle tests this out by demonstrating which caliber is capable of against a ballistic gel. Ballistic gelatin is a testing medium scientifically correlated to swine muscle tissue (which in turn is comparable to human muscle tissue), in which the effects of bullet wounds can...

Anyone that follows Rob Leatham, who is known for his pistol shooting prowess knows about his "the Walk Back Challenge" drill. Basically the drill starts at the 50 yard take a shot with your pistol, if you hit the full size steel target. Proceed to the 100 yard, you keep repeating this drill until you've reached a distance where you miss the target. Normally this is around the 200 to 250 yard range. In this demonstration Larry Vicker using a Glock 20 which shoots a 10mm, the power is between a .357 and 41 Magnum. This pistol is ideal not...

On April 11, 1986 eight FBI agents engaged in a lead slinging war with two criminals, and despite outnumbering the crooks by four-to-one, ended up losing two of their own in a debacle that changed both tactics and the choices of firearms for law enforcement as a whole. Michael Platt and William Matix were no good, despite not having a criminal record before they began their crime spree that ended their careers and lives. The two met while serving in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Matix having been a former Marine before enlisting in the Army. Platt was a Ranger. Strangely enough,...

The 10mm is becoming increasingly popular as a wilderness defense gun in Alaska.  Fully loaded it is as light, and a bit more powerful than a loaded, small frame .357 magnum. The Glock 20 holds 15 rounds versus five or six for a .44 or .41 magnum revolver.  In this case near Homer, Alaska, on the Kenai peninsula, it did the job in stopping a charging brown bear sow. It happened on 29 July, 2016, a Monday afternoon about 4 p.m.  From homernews.com: A Homer man shot and killed a charging sow brown bear at Humpy Creek last Friday....

I bought a 9mm and love using it, but am debating what to get for home protection at a higher caliber. I like the looks of the 1911 45's and I also like the idea of a 40 caliber Glock or 10mm Glock. I think I want a semi-automatic, so the revolver is out... Finally, should I get a shorter barrel (4" or less) or stick with the standard 4.5 - 5" barrel? Your advice would be very much appreciated...

The modern beginnings of the 10MM go back to the early 1970's with the creation of the .40 G&A. At the time, there were three semi-auto cartridges of any serious consequences available, the 9MM, the .38 Super, and the .45 ACP. The idea was to come up with a cartridge that combined the best qualities of the 9MM and .45 ACP. With the creation of the new .40 semi-auto cartridge, the statement was made that "...the .40 caliber was chosen because it can be shown mathematically that it takes about this size projectile to provide the cross-sectional area to achieve...
