The head of the milk industry today petitioned Congress to include the failing milk industry in the sweeping $700 billion financial industry bailout. Testifying before the House Financial Services Committee, Rick Smith, president and chief executive officer of the Dairy Farmers of America, the largest dairy marketing cooperative, said: “America depends on good milk, and we just can’t give it to them in today’s marketplace.
