The Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the State Department’s security arm, told the inspector general that in March 2009 Mrs. Clinton rejected an offer from security officials to provide her with a secure government smartphone. “DS was informed that Secretary Clinton’s staff had been asking to use BlackBerry devices inside classified areas,” said the report, released late last month. But the Lazar e-mail incursion with the most serious repercussions was his March 2013 hacking of the AOL account of Sidney Blumenthal, the Clinton family confidant. While in control of the AOL account, Lazar (seen at left) copied Blumenthal’s e-mails, including dozens of messages sent to Hillary Clinton, who was then Secretary of State. Blumenthal’s e-mails to Clinton--many of which included detailed memos about international affairs--were not sent to her government address, but rather to hdr22@clintonemail.com. The clintonemail.com domain was registered on January 13, 2009, as Clinton's Senate confirmation hearings were about to commence.

ASPEN — A man who left bomb threats and homemade bombs around Aspen on New Year's Eve shot and killed himself in his car a few hours after his threats cleared much of the resort town, Aspen Police said. Assistant Aspen Police Chief Bill Linn said James Chester Blanning, 72, walked into two Aspen banks Wednesday afternoon and left packages wrapped in holiday paper along with notes saying the boxes contained bombs. Roxana Saberi, an American citizen and a native of Fargo, N.D., has been held in a Tehran prison since the end of January. The Iranian government says she was doing reporting work after her credentials expired and they picked her up two months ago after she bought a bottle of wine.
