he ACLU says it expects a federal judge will issue his decision Tuesday in its challenge to Pennsylvania’s ban on same-sex marriage, The civil liberties group, which is representing plaintiffs in the closely-watched case, said in a press release that it plans to hold rallies in major cities across the state, including Philadelphia, regardless of the outcome. The ACLU sued Gov. Corbett and his administration last July on behalf of 23 plaintiffs over the state's 1996 ban, which prohibits same-sex marriage in Pennsylvania and does not recognize such marriages performed elsewhere.

SNIP To lead the Republican majority staff, Gowdy selected Philip Kiko, a key aide to Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., when the latter served as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and more recently a registered lobbyist for the Smith-Free Group, a K Street lobbying firm with a diverse roster of clients. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, swiftly welcomed Gowdy’s choice, calling Kiko “a man of unquestioned integrity with a record of distinguished service” in and out of Congress... SNIP However, emails obtained by Fox News show that some conservatives are unhappy with Kiko’s appointment, chiefly because of his recent lobbying...

Longtime Michigan Congressman John Conyers joined a federal lawsuit Thursday taking aim at the requirement that petition collectors be registered voters, as part of a larger challenge to an order removing his name from the primary ballot in August. Conyers, who was first elected to the House in 1964 and represents a district including Detroit and several suburbs, joined the suit two days after Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett determined he didn’t have enough signatures to appear on the Aug. 5 Democratic primary ballot. She found Conyers was more than 400 signatures short of 1,000 needed. The suit was filed...

Nonetheless, the satanists are building this thing, and I was offered an early peek at the work in progress by Temple spokesperson Lucien Greaves. Greaves told me he has received numerous threats from people who want to attack the sculpture, but that he “wouldn’t expect these outraged and nearly insensible reactionaries to actually know how to assault a bronze monument without severely hurting themselves in the process.” Still, he’s not taking any chances. The Temple is building a mold of the sculpture so they can pop these things out like evil, terribly expensive action figures whenever they need a new...

On Tuesday Bill Clinton was able to help perpetuate Democrat voter fraud through a ruling from Federal Judge Lynn Adelman. Adelman, who has been a Democrat State Senator, was lauded by the American Civil Liberties Union for his ruling which is based on tortured logic. In making his decision Adelman indicated that he didn’t see a Democrat voter fraud problem in Wisconsin so there was no need for a law against it. By taking this position this sleazy fake jurist ruled that Wisconsin could not act proactively to prevent a crime that, in his view, only happens elsewhere if at...

It's sad to see what's been happening with our government in recent years. Slowly, but surely, our rights and freedoms are being taken away. We thought our Constitution would protect us. After all, it was written to shield Americans from the abuses of government. But believe it or not, there are places in this country where the Constitution doesn't apply.

Thousands of immigrants seeking protection in the United States have spent months in detention waiting for the government to determine whether they may have legitimate cases, even though regulations say they should receive a determination within 10 days, according to a class action lawsuit filed Thursday by the ACLU and other groups. The lawsuit accuses the government of violating the law and says tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been needlessly spent on detention. Claire Nicholson, a spokeswoman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said she could not comment on pending litigation. The case, which was filed in the...

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly bringing a Confederate flag to school. Brother Gary Cregan, principal of St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, said the two seniors walked in with a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders during an after-hours sporting event at the school. As CBS 2′s Kathryn Brown reported, there is outrage and disgust on Long Island. “The African-American students who immediately saw it really exercised heroic restraint and fortunately a teacher immediately confiscated the flag and took the students out of the gym,” Cregan said. The...

The Disturbing Truth Behind Your Next Income Tax Return By Jeffrey Tucker, Executive Editor, Laissez Faire Books The least of the problems with income tax is that it takes your money. The really big problem is that the income tax takes your life. It gives the government direct access to the things you own and sets up the political-bureaucratic sector to be the final arbiter of what you can and cannot consider to be yours. Illustrating this point is the bitter news that the IRS has considered it completely legal to demand access to your email archive whenever it wants....

The National Rifle Association has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in a case in federal court in New York challenging the federal government’s data surveillance techniques, arguing the data collection violates the First Amendment and could undermine federal privacy laws that prohibit the formation of a registry of firearms or gun owners. The gun rights group is supporting a request by the American Civil Liberties Union to reverse a ruling from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that upheld the surveillance policies. The brief filed this month comes as privacy issues and government spying has once...

When I look at the unmitigated disaster that has been the Obama Error, I have trouble deciding which one of Chairman Obama's crimes against the Republic is the most heinous. There's so much to choose from, it's like a buffet of evil. The NSA is reading your email as you read this column. The United States military was used to put the Muslim Brotherhood in control of Libya without any CONgressional approval whatsoever. Obamacareless has changed its appearance more times than a chameleon on LSD. And we could go on an on, with one outrage after another that would have...

Caving into the demands of a leftist civil rights group, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has terminated an enforcement program that apprehends illegal immigrants in California’s central valley. The unbelievable story comes out of Kern County in Bakersfield, which is considered the heart of the nation’s most populous state. The increasingly powerful American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) didn’t like that the DHS agency responsible for deporting illegal aliens, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was doing its job. So the ACLU, which has repeatedly shown to wield tremendous power in the Obama administration, fired off a letter demanding that the...

US judge rejects Vegas 'patient dumping' lawsuit Feb 13, 8:57 PM (ET) By KEN RITTER LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal judge in Nevada rejected a lawsuit Thursday that accuses Nevada officials and the state psychiatric hospital in Las Vegas of violating a patient's civil rights by giving him a bus ticket and sending him to California. But an American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada lawyer representing patient James Flavey Coy Brown characterized the ruling as a setback, not a fatal blow to the case. It seeks class-action status for Brown and as many as 1,500 unnamed people his lawyers...

Madison — Four same-sex couples sued Gov. Scott Walker and other public officials Monday in an attempt to overturn the state's eight-year-old ban on gay marriage. The move comes amid a wave of challenges nationally — many of them successful — to limits on gay marriage. It also comes as the state Supreme Court considers whether a limited set of benefits available to gay couples under Wisconsin law is acceptable under the state constitution's prohibition on same-sex marriage and civil unions. Online court records show Virginia Wolf and Carol Schumacher, along with three other couples, sued Walker in federal court...

The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Louisiana filed a lawsuit this week against a public school district in rural western Louisiana contending that school officials and at least one teacher harassed a Buddhist sixth-grade student for not adhering to Christianity. The ACLU filed the suit against the Sabine Parish school board in U.S. District Court in Shreveport on behalf of parents Scott and Sharon Lane, reports local CBS affiliate KSLA. One of the Lanes’ children, called “C.C.” in the suit, is a Buddhist of Thai descent. The parents claim that school officials began harassing him about his...

PC: According to NBC News, the Justice Department will soon prohibit religious profiling in terror cases. The move, if true, would completely blind federal law enforcement to the threat from Islamic extremism. Already, the department has forced the FBI to bleach references to "Islam" and "jihad" from its counterterrorism training materials. It's also made it harder for agents to infiltrate radical mosques. But Attorney General Eric Holder reportedly now wants to make it illegal for agents to even consider religion in their investigations. Democrats on the Hill are cheering the changes, along with the ACLU and radical Muslim Brotherhood front...

Reproductive rights groups opposed to Michigan's new abortion insurance law will not seek to overturn it at the ballot box in 2014. The ACLU of Michigan, along with state chapters of Planned Parenthood and the National Organization of Women, had been considering a referendum to repeal the law, which prohibits insurers from covering most abortions unless a woman or her employer has purchased an additional rider in advance. "The timing is just not right for a referendum or initiative at this point," Rana Elmir, deputy director for the ACLU of Michigan, said Tuesday. "Our research indicates that there's a growing...
