  • ADP: Employers Add 204,000 Jobs in August: Figure falls short of economists' estimate of 220K

US News and World Report ^ | 09/04/2014 | Katherine Peralta
Businesses in the U.S. added 204,000 jobs in August, led by broad-based gains across industries and company sizes, according to the ADP National Employment report released Thursday. The figure fell short of the consensus estimate of 220,000, and was down from the 218,000 jobs the group said the economy added in July. Continued monthly gains in job growth would signal to Federal Reserve policymakers labor market tightening, which could put pressure on employers to raise wages if labor is scarce. Wage gains, which have yet to really materialize, could in turn enable households to pickup their pace of spending and...

Since Friday is a federal holiday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its jobs report for June 2014 tomorrow. Both ADP and Gallup have their usual leading indicator surveys out this morning, and the news looks relatively good from both. The private sector added 281,000 jobs according to the ADP estimate, the highest growth in more than a year: Private sector employment increased by 281,000 jobs from May to June according to the June ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP National Employment Report is produced by ADP®, a...
  • US companies added 281,000 jobs in June: Survey

    Economic Times ^ | 07/02/2014
WASHINGTON: A private survey shows US business hiring surged in June, a sign of stronger economic growth. Payroll processer ADP says private employers added 281,000 jobs last month, up from 179,000 in the previous month. The figure suggests the government's jobs report, to be released Thursday, could also show a significant gain from May's tally of 217,000 jobs. But the ADP numbers cover only private businesses and often diverge from the government's more comprehensive report. The improvement in the ADP figures occurred mostly in professional and business services, a category that includes many higher-paying jobs such as accountants and engineers,...

The post-weather bounce is over in exuberant employment trends appears to be over. After January's plunge, the last 3 months have seen beats but May's data - printing at 179k (against expectations of 210k) is a major disappointment for the extrapolators and presses job griwth back to its lowest since January. Rubbing salt in the wound of recovery, April's data was revised downward. It was so bad, even the permabullish Mark Zandi was unable to spin the data:  "Job growth moderated in May. The slowing in growth was concentrated in Professional/Business Services and companies with 50-999 employees. The job...

Did the slowdown in the fourth quarter of 2013 impact hiring in the first quarter of 2014? The first two jobs reports of the year certainly support that conclusion, but the latest ADP estimate of job creation suggests that the job freeze may have thawed — a bit. ADP estimates that the private sector added 191,000 jobs to the US economy in March: Private sector employment increased by 191,000 jobs from February to March according to the March ADP National Employment Report®. Private employers added only 139,000 jobs to their payrolls in February and job growth in January was even less than previously thought, according to the latest ADP National Employment Report. The news is a sign that Friday's much-anticipated employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics also may show that job growth hasn't been strong in recent months. Ahead of that report, Reuters writes, economists say they're expecting to hear that as few as 95,000 jobs were added to public and private payrolls last month. The nation's unemployment rate is thought to have stayed at 6.6 percent. Wednesday's report, which...

The ADP employment report was released today and blew past expectations of 170,000 jobs added with a print of … 215,000 jobs added. Of course, we don’t know the composition of full-time versus part-time/temporary holiday employment, but at least employment increased. Change-in-Nonfarm-Private-Employment-November-2013 In fact, ADP job creation seems to be in a similar point to the previous decade in terms of level of ADP jobs added. Historical-Trend-Change-in-Total-Nonfarm-Private-Employment-November-2013 Here is the composition of jobs added. Notice that is mostly small firms. • No 'Great Recovery' in U.S.; ADP jobs number below expectations

    06/05/2013 1:22:34 PM PDT · by SeekAndFind · 8 replies
An economic forecast says the country’s expected “Great Recovery” hasn’t materialized and the economy’s fallen short of even normal growth. The Los Angeles Times reports the gloomy picture appears in the quarterly UCLA Anderson Forecast released Wednesday. It says that real gross domestic product growth – the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services produced – is well below the 3percent growth trend of past recoveries. The forecast says the country isn’t creating enough good jobs. However, the forecast also says a housing market recovery should boost the GDP over the next two years and bring down unemployment, falling to 6.9...
  • How Frank Lautenberg Made a Fortune by Doing Work the Government Made Necessary

Frank Lautenberg, the Democratic senator from New Jersey who died today at age 89, will be remembered by others for his career in government. To me the more fascinating story is his career in business. Because the company where Lautenberg spent the 30 years between 1952 and 1982 — longer than the time he spent in the Senate — is a classic example that manages to encapsulate both the genius and the risks of a certain kind of American business. It was the success of that company — now Automatic Data Processing, Inc., or ADP — that made Lautenberg the...

Just before the ADP employment report was released this morning, I asked Business Insider’s Joseph Weisenthal to give me his prediction — a rather unfair request in retrospect, since the report was due in 2 minutes at that point. He graciously offered his prediction anyway: @edmorrissey Hrm. I’ll go weak. 120K vs. expectations of 150k.— Joseph Weisenthal (@TheStalwart) May 1, 2013 As it turns out, Joe was almost exactly correct: Private sector employment increased by 119,000 jobs from March to April, according to the April ADP National Employment Report® , which is produced by ADP®, a leading provider of human...

We already saw a less robust outlook from TrimTabs showing that estimated job growth for March was 156,000. That was up from its 100,000 job growth February estimate, but the report shows that actual job growth is significantly weaker than the Labor Department reported in the first quarter and not enough to reduce the rate of unemployment. Now we have the ADP report coming in much weaker at 158,000, versus 192,000 projected by Dow Jones, and projected to be 205,000 in new payrolls by Bloomberg. The pace of hiring by private employers slowed last month. Only 158,000 jobs were added, according to a report issued Wednesday by payroll-processing firm ADP. This missed the consensus forecast from Briefing.com of 197,000 jobs, and was a sharp drop from February's job growth, which was revised upwards to 237,000 jobs added. "The job market continues to improve, but in fits and starts," said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics. "Construction employment gains paused as the rebuilding surge in the wake of Superstorm Sandy ended. Anticipation of health care reform may also be weighing on employment at companies with...

U.S. job growth kept apace last month, a new report this morning shows, a bright sign for the economy that allowed stocks to continue to set new highs. Private companies added 198,000 workers in February, according to the monthly estimate from payroll giant ADP. Analysts expected ADP to report 173,000 new jobs. Growth fell, though, from a month earlier when businesses added 215,000. After closing at a new record yesterday, the Dow Jones industrial average rose still more in pre-market trading. Dow futures gained 47 points. Nasdaq futures added 4.8 points, and the S&P 500 increased 6.9 points. Attention now...

Originally, I planned to add this to the GDP announcement --- but that was before the BEA laid an egg, and a red egg at that. Instead, let's look at the early indicator from ADP of Friday's upcoming BLS jobs report, which is a lot sunnier than Q4 GDP would suggest: Private sector employment increased by 192,000 jobs from December to January, according to the January ADP National Employment Report, which is produced by ADP, a leading provider of human capital management services, in collaboration with MoodyÂ’s Analytics. Tomorrow will bring the monthly jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, so today we have a few indicators to get a hint as to what may come. The preliminary numbers from ADP look promising, although they usually overshoot the mark. According to the payroll-processing firm, the private sector added 215,000 jobs in December: Private sector employment increased by 215,000 jobs from November to December, according to the December ADP National Employment Report, which is produced by Automatic Data Processing, Inc. • ADP: Private Sector Employment Adds 158,000 Jobs in October After LOSING 402,000 Jobs With Revision

According to ADP, private sector employment increased by 158,000 jobs in October. This beat expectations of 131,000 but is lower than the previous reading of 158,000 (which has been revised downwards to 114,000 which was actually 88,000). This is the most jobs added in eight months. This is especially welcome news after the ADP revision showed that since February 2012, 402,000 fewer jobs were created than previously thought. ADP wanted to be more consistent with BLS for employment numbers, so the downward revision that makes this week’s increase look even higher is indeed consistent with BLS. Meanwhile, Challenger US Job...

October ADP jobs survey (8:15 a.m. Eastern Time) – Remember this is the first month that ADP is reporting its monthly data under its revised methodology. • ADP Changes Methodology of Job-Counting; One Analyst Thinks The Change Suggests That Friday's.

Assuming the BLS even releases data on Friday, which they're still hedging about. ADP is a big payroll-service firm which releases its own assessment of job growth (or job losses), based partly on its own data. Their new methodology occasioned a revision to their already-reported September figures. ADP's new calculations put the monthly job creation [in September] at just 88,200, down from the 162,000 the firm originally reported earlier this month. ... The soft ADP count could add credence to those who believe the pace of job creation is slower than the government's numbers indicate. "It's huge, no doubt about...
