Decades ago – on March 2, 1962 – the television show "The Twilight Zone" premiered an episode called “To Serve Man” which centered on the sudden arrival of outer space aliens…who purportedly just wanted to provide humanitarian aid such as advanced chemicals which grew larger crops to end hunger. Since many world leaders were understandably skeptical of the aliens’ motives, they presented earthlings with a book titled" To Serve Man" written in their own outer space language. (Cryptograhers quickly were drafted to try and decode the symbols on the pages.) The space creatures also offered to fly volunteers to their...

Numerous videos have surfaced online that show the extent of the amount of weapons that Taliban terrorists have seized in Afghanistan following Democrat President Joe Biden’s debacle in the country. The New York Times reported that the Taliban have seized “hundreds of Humvees and pickup trucks they captured along with countless caches of weapons and ammunition,” which they have shown off on social media. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan admitted during Tuesday’s press briefing that “a fair amount” of the billions of dollars in weaponry that the U.S. provided to Afghanistan had “fallen into the hands of the...

Much has been made of the similarities between what we’ve witnessed in Kabul, Afghanistan and the fall of Saigon in 1975. These comparisons are entirely appropriate, to be sure. Like the South Vietnamese in 1975, any Afghans who placed their trust in the ally-ship and promises of the United States very likely await torture and death at the hands of the murderous scourge which had been held at bay by American resolve and military might. It is only the absolute certainty of such a horrific fate that led South Vietnamese would-be refugees to cling to boats and helicopters as the...

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban declared an “amnesty” across Afghanistan and urged women to join their government Tuesday, seeking to convince a wary population that they have changed... ...Overnight, flight-tracking data showed a U.S. military plane taking off for Qatar, home to the U.S. military Central Command's forward headquarters. A British military cargo plane also was flying to Kabul after taking off from Dubai. Other military aircraft remained in the air in the region. The U.S. Embassy in Kabul, now operating from the airport, urged Americans to register online for evacuations but not come to the airport before being...

The United Nations refugee agency on Friday called on Afghanistan’s neighbors to keep their borders open to avert a humanitarian disaster as the Taliban continue the offensive to retake the country. “An inability to seek safety may risk innumerable civilian lives. UNHCR stands ready to help national authorities scale up humanitarian responses as needed,” a spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees told a briefing in Geneva. A spokesperson for the World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian organization, said food shortages in the war-torn country are “quite dire” and worsening, adding that the situation had all the hallmarks...

The Taliban are advancing across Afghanistan as the US withdraws, but the US military is continuing to conduct airstrikes, often to destroy military equipment captured by the Taliban, NBC News reported Thursday, citing a US defense official. It was first reported in late July that the US military was launching strikes targeting "captured military equipment that the Taliban [were] able to seize from the" Afghan National Defense and Security Forces. Such strikes have continued as the Taliban gains ground. NBC reported that the US military is conducting one to five strikes a day, typically with drones, with most of the...

In April, President Joe Biden told the nation he would have all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack ever on the continental United States. Given the turn of events of the past week, that 20th anniversary may be celebrated by a triumphant Taliban, now on the cusp of victory over the Americans and their Afghan allies, with gruesome public executions of their surrendered and captured enemies. Sept. 11, 2021, could see U.S. Marines and diplomats fleeing Kabul to escape the retribution of the Taliban whom we ousted in 2001. Consider....

Ben Rhodes joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the US expanding refugee programs for Afghans interpreters as the Taliban escalate violence in Afghanistan. “We need a new way of thinking about this,” says Rhodes. “The current design of the program does not permit for the volume of people who are in danger.” He also discusses relations with Iran as a new, more hardline president comes into power there while negotiations look fragile on rejoining the Iran deal

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that the situation in Afghanistan had a tendency to swiftly deteriorate and said Moscow was ready to defend its regional allies if necessary. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday told Emomali Rakhmon, the president of Tajikistan, that Moscow would help the impoverished former Soviet republic contend with the fallout from NATO's exit from neighbouring Afghanistan if needed. Rakhmon has ordered the mobilisation of 20,000 military reservists to bolster his country's border with Afghanistan after more than 1,000 Afghan security personnel fled across the frontier in response to Taliban militant advances. Lavrov, speaking...

TALIBAN insurgents have captured a brand new cargo of thousands of US weapons and vehicles as Afghanistan spirals out of control. Following the takeover of a former Afghan National Army base, the Taliban have come into the hands of thousands of unused weapons and vehicles intended for US and Afghan troops. From one base in Wardak province in the north of the country, Sky News showed how the insurgents have snatched an astonishing 900 brand new guns, 30 hummvies, 20 armoured pick-up trucks, thousands of rounds of ammunition and boxes upon boxes of brand new missiles and mortars.

U.S. President Joe Biden hailed Friday’s strong monthly jobs report, saying it was a sign that his economic and pandemic-fighting strategies were working. “This is historic progress, pulling our economy out of the worst crisis in 100 years, driven in part by our dramatic progress in vaccinating our nation and beating back the pandemic as well as other elements of the American Rescue plan,” Biden said in remarks at the White House. “To put it simply, our economy is on the move,” Biden said. This is what every mainstream media reported about. But no one mentioned the fact that Biden...

People in various provinces including Takhar, Balkh and Baghlan in the north, Badghis in the west, and Parwan in central Afghanistan, have taken up arms to fight the Taliban amid an escalation of violence by the group. Public uprising forces commanders in the provinces said they will stand beside the security forces to retake the lost districts. Some politicians said that it is necessary that people have taken up arms to defend the country under the current circumstances. In Takhar, the Taliban has attacked at least 10 districts. Now some residents have taken up arms to support the fight against...

Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan attacked and overran a key army base in southeastern Ghazni province Saturday, capturing dozens of soldiers and killing several others. The latest attack came on a day when the United States and NATO partners formally began withdrawing their militaries from the country after almost 20 years of war. Two senior provincial council members told VOA the Afghan army had stationed dozens of its forces at the base outside the provincial capital, also named Ghazni, before the pre-dawn insurgent attack. Local media reports said the ensuing clashes had lasted several hours and killed at least 17 soldiers....

DOHA, Qatar — Nearly 11 days after peace negotiations between the United States and the Taliban began with high hopes, it has become clear that any resolution to the 18-year war could be frustratingly slow. One of the most prominent issues thwarting progress is a disagreement over a fundamental question: What is terrorism, and who is a terrorist?... ...American negotiators have insisted on specifying that Afghanistan not be used by “terrorist” groups, but the Taliban have resisted, saying there was no universal definition of terrorism. The Taliban dragging their feet on one term might seem to be killing time, but...

Three American service members were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan on Tuesday, marking the deadliest day for U.S. forces in the embattled country this year. Three American troops were killed and three others were wounded in the attack in the notorious Taliban hotbed – Ghazini city – after their armored vehicle drove over a massive bomb buried under the road. An American contractor was also wounded in the attack. Including Tuesday’s attack, 12 Americans have been killed in combat in Afghanistan this year. Five Americans have been killed this month alone.
