Just when you thought the 'Russians-did-it' meme was fading, WaPo reporters manage to find DoJ officials who say then-Senator Jeff Sessions spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States - encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts with Moscow during his confirmation hearing to become attorney general. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday that he plans to target drug cartels and crack down on gun crimes to snuff out what could be the start of a national crime wave, evidenced by a recent uptick in homicides and other violence. After a bitter confirmation battle, Jeff Sessions was sworn in Thursday as attorney general at an Oval Office ceremony attended by President Trump. The president said that Mr. Sessions, a former federal prosecutor and Alabama attorney general who resigned form the U.S. Senate to become the country’s top law enforcement officer, had “devoted his life to the cause of justice and believes deeply that all people are equals in the eyes of the law.” The swearing-in capped a brutal confirmation in which Senate Democrats and liberal activists accused Mr. Sessions of being a racist, sexist and homophobic.

Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddyke Show,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) elaborated on his party’s efforts to slow the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s cabinet appointees, including Jeff Sessions, who was confirmed earlier in the day by the U.S. Senate. “When Jeff Sessions was passed, it turned my stomach,” Schumer said.

Sen. Sen. Jeff Sessions survived his first test floor vote Thursday, putting him on the path to win confirmation as the next attorney general.

Jeff Sessions advanced in the Senate today to becoming our new Attorney General. All that is left between Sessions and being Attorney General is the final vote in the Senate for final confirmation. Once Sessions gets in, the fur is going to fly! The democrats know this, and they have done everything possible to bar Sessions from confirmation. They used an obscure rule to delay Sessions’ vote, which was supposed to happen Tuesday. Democrats on the committee gave lengthy speeches opposing him, triggering a rule that doesn’t allow the panel to be in session for two hours past the state...

After a day of delays, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in a vote of 11-9 to be the next attorney general. Following the party line vote, he will go to the Senate floor for confirmation.
