When a man went to the side of his boat to empty a bucket at Australia's Kakadu National Park on Saturday, he was attacked by what police say was a 15.5-foot-long crocodile and vanished, his wife, son, and daughter-in-law unable to save him. Now, the 62-year-old's remains may have been found inside a crocodile. Two of the reptiles were shot yesterday about a mile from the site of the encounter, the AAP reports via the Sydney Morning Herald. "A quantity of human remains was recovered" from one, say police. They have yet to be IDed.

The four tree-climbing species are Australian freshwater crocodiles, American crocodiles, Central African slender-snouted crocodiles and Nile crocodiles. ... The height up to which these species could climb depended on their size. As per the researchers, smaller crocodiles were able to climb more higher than the bigger ones. Some were able to climb four to five meters high. In addition to climb trees, earlier research on crocodilians, including crocodiles, caimans and alligators, revealed that they use tools like twigs and branches to trap birds. The reptiles hold a twig to gain attention of nesting birds towards itself. As soon as the...

Fields' encounter with a 10-foot American crocodile has become a more common experience in Broward and Palm Beach counties, as these light gray cousins of alligators reclaim their historic range. Crocodile numbers have risen from a low of 200 or so in the 1970s to about 2,000 today, with more of them roaming north from their core nesting areas in southern Everglades National Park and the Upper Florida Keys. There have been no documented attacks on people in South Florida, the only part of the United States with crocodiles, although biologists won't rule out the possibility.

At least once a day, Robert Mackey and Paul Trucchio would pray to "the alligator god" that a human head, the only evidence of the brutal murder they committed, would be devoured by a reptile in the Everglades, two witnesses told jurors Thursday.

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Sheriff's deputies found two 5-foot alligators at a marijuana grow site where a man was shot on Monday evening. Thurston County sheriff's Lt. Greg Elwin said deputies responded to the scene in the Scott Lake area south of Olympia when a man called 911 to say he had shot another man. The shooter told investigators that he fired in self defense, but investigators believe he actually shot the other man during drug buy. The 30-year-old man who was shot was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital and was expected to recover. The gunman, identified as 41-year-old...

It occurred to me that Tropical Storm Lee must really be wreaking havoc upon the efforts of Troy Landry and the other Swamp People in their alligator hunts. Right now, the Louisiana Alligator season has recently begun. Will the Swamp People be forced to refrain from hunting alligators for a few days? Also what affect with the extra water in the bayous have upon the hunt?I guess we will find out when Season 3 of "Swamp People" is broadcast.Ice Road Truckers fizzled out after the first season and I never really could get into "Axe Men" so "Swamp People" is my...

In yet another one of Obama's highly touted campaign speeches (are there any other type?), the President once again chose to use derisive rhetoric to whip up the masses against those horrible Republicans. Obama attempted to put the GOP on the defensive by suggesting that Republicans not only want the country surrounded by a moat to prevent evil immigrants from entering, but that in order to ensure success, they would fill the moat with alligators.

In search of Hispanic votes and a long-shot immigration overhaul, President Barack Obama on Tuesday stood at the U.S.-Mexico border for the first time since winning the White House and declared it more secure than ever. He mocked Republican lawmakers for blocking immigration over border security alone, saying they won't be happy until they get a moat with alligators along the border. "They'll never be satisfied," he said. Stymied by both chambers of Congress, the president ditched lawmakers in favor of voters who might pressure them, making an appeal to the public on a hot and dusty day far outside...

A Sarasota family is warning the entire Tampa Bay area after their 50 lb. Keeshond was eaten by an alligator. It happened as Darryl Mizer took him out to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Pictures: Alligators wrangled, hunted around Florida "I still can't believe what I saw and as big as this alligator must have been," Mizer explained. Mizer says he noticed what appeared to be a log in the water come right up next to the dog, but he quickly realized it wasn't a log. "There was a squeal or two, the alligator shook him, and...

Only on alligator was legally tagged. It's going to take more than a leather hide to save the skins of two men who were caught with 55 alligators in the bed of their pick up truck Thursday. Joel Green, 47, and 22-year-old Donald Strenth were arrested and charged with multiple poaching charges after deputies stopped the men for a routine traffic stop only to find the grisly remains of 36 large alligators in the back of their pick up truck. The men also had snatched up 19 hatchlings, which were still alive and being stored in a small plastic bag....

Visualize a huge (7-12 foot) alligator coming to the top of the water thrashing and rolling. A man has a hold on the line that the hook and alligator are on. These alligators are ranging from 500- 1,000+ pounds. The fight between man and alligator is breathtaking to me.

The fish that remain in what's left of Tempe Town Lake face certain death, so they'll be scooped out and tossed into the snapping jaws of alligators. The city showed off its lake-cleanup plan Friday by trotting out a 6-foot gator that is one of many creatures to benefit from the lake going bust. Several animal-rescue groups will use the fish to feed alligators, turtles, birds of prey and other recovered animals that feast on flesh. The city wants the fish removed before they die, or soon enough after they expire that they can safely be used as food. Other...

Texas wildlife officials say there are six alligators living in the Rio Grande, east of Fort Hancock in Hudspeth County. "There were approximately six alligators that were observed, three of them that were in the 2- to 4-foot range, and about three of them in the 5- to 6-foot range," Texas Game Warden Ray Spears told KFOX-TV, El Paso, Texas. Spears said the alligators are in a rural area, so they don't pose much danger to humans. He said it is believed they were dropped off in the area by someone who was previously keeping them. The warden said his...

As once-threatened animal populations including black bears, mountain lions and alligators rebound and people move into former wildlands, predators are showing up precisely where they don't belong: in backyards. And the wildlife isn't as afraid of us as we might think. Welcome to the food chain. It was the perfect ending to a perfect afternoon. Gary Mann and his girlfriend Helen were watching the sun go down after a satisfying day clearing brush in the backyard of Mann’s home in Sutter Creek, Calif. A pile of branches and twigs was burning merrily, throwing shadows into the growing darkness as the...

Sean Manning, a zoo worker, swims fearlessly beside the 9ft long creatures without anything to protect him. Apparently calm and unthreatened, the alligators allow Mr Manning to get close enough to touch them. The dangerous stunt is part of a highly dangerous show at Miami's Jungle Island Zoo, in Florida, USA. Brigitte Grosjean, manager of the park, said: "Sean is part of a show called 'Gator X-treme', here at Jungle Island Zoo. "This aquatic adventure is the first time anyone in America has seen anything like this. "They have never seen this 250 million-year-old perfect killing machine, which has 80...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't hold a lavish ceremony to sign legislation Friday legalizing the importation of crocodile and alligator products until 2010. But perhaps Schwarzenegger felt he'd given enough love to dead animal skin, considering its frequent placement on his own two feet. Case in point: The Republican governor wore conspicuous green leather boots at a Capitol ceremony Friday to sign prescription drug legislation -- though the Governor's Office would not define the animal source. Starting next year, Senate Bill 1485 by Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth, R-Temecula, will exempt alligator or crocodile products from a statewide ban on commercial importation of...

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - It was curtains for Crusty. The 8-foot alligator had been fed too many marshmallows, jelly beans and M&Ms, and had lost his fear of humans. Under state policy, he was deemed a nuisance, which is a virtual death sentence. But then an anonymous donor last month paid to have the gator moved to a nearby animal exhibit. Crusty was one of the lucky ones. More than 7,000 gators, or about 20 a day, are killed each year under Florida's nuisance alligator criteria — 4 feet or longer and a perceived threat to people or pets....
