Sometimes it’s tough to suss out bias in polling, I grant you. This is not one of those times. Reuters leads with a story about Barack Obama’s approval rating jumping back up to 50%: For the first time since early July, more Americans approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing than disapprove, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll that shows his approval rating now at 50 percent. The poll, taken March 8-11 on the heels of reports that 227,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in February, indicates that Obama’s rating has risen by 2 percentage points during...

PRINCETON, NJ -- President Obama's average job approval rating for the month of February in Gallup Daily tracking was 45%, with 47% disapproving, unchanged from January. Obama's job approval in February exceeds the lows seen last summer, when his monthly approval rating dipped to 41% from August through October. That followed a slide from 50% in May after the successful U.S. military mission in Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden. However, despite the recent improvement in his score, it has yet to recover to the level seen at the start of 2011, when 49% approved and 43% disapproved. Apart from...

President Barack Obama alienated 37,00 twitter followers last night with scores of tweets urging followers to contact their local Congressman over the debt deal. With his approval rating sitting at an all-time low of 40 per cent amidst the debt crisis, tens of thousands of Americans unfollwed the President to avoid the deulge. The president’s staff sent a total of 118 tweets asking his followers to write their Republican lawmakers to demand a compromise on debt legislation. The first tweet read: 'The time for putting party first is over. If you want to see a bipartisan #compromise, let Congress know....

The new poll from CNN gives plenty of reason for skepticism, and not just because they failed to include any demographic data from their sample. Barack Obama hit his highest approval rating in months in the survey at 54%, rising from 52% earlier this month — but still underwater on almost all issues: "President Barack Obama’s performance on national security and international affairs and his image as a strong leader appear to be behind his rising approval rating, according to new national poll conducted as the president was on an overseas visit to four countries. A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey...

An article in the Washington Post, entitled, "Bin Laden death helps Obama reposition in Virginia" attempts to calculate the impact of Osama Bin Laden's assassination on Virginian's perception of Obama. A random cell/home phone survey was conducted before and after Obama's announcement on Sunday, May 1st. Respondents were asked 34 questions that related to both Virginia State politics and National races. The polling data showed that Obama's approval rating increased by 8% when compared to results of the same survey conducted before the assassination. They also showed that Obama stretched his lead against the top five potential Republican Candidates. Unfortunately,...

The Washington Post and ABC News have published their latest poll, and try as they might, they still have bad news for Barack Obama. The President has lost seven points off of their poorly-sampled approval rating from January with the latest even-more-poorly-sampled survey today. Despite giving Obama a ten-point advantage, he drops to 47% approval and hits new lows on the economy: Deepening economic pessimism has pushed down President ObamaÂ’s approval rating to a near record low, but he holds an early advantage over prospective 2012 rivals in part because of widespread dissatisfaction with Republican candidates, according to a new...

Barack Obama presumably hoped for a bounce from Wednesday’s budget-reform speech, but thus far he’s only received the dead-cat variety at Gallup. Their daily three-day tracking poll includes one day each before and after the speech, and Obama went from 46/46 in last weekend’s surveys to 41/50 in their release today. The Los Angeles Times notes the drop in support: It could be gas prices, the budget debate, or simply the usual ups and downs of public opinion polling. But President Obama’s approval rating has dipped to a five-month low in Gallup’s daily tracking poll, reverting to post-midterm election lows.The...

After a brief resurgence earlier this year, President Obama's poll numbers are back in the dumps. A new Quinnipiac Poll released Wednesday finds Obama's approval rating at the lowest point in his presidency, thanks in part to voter angst over the economy and his handling of the situation in Libya. Just 42 percent of those polled approve of the job Obama is doing, compared to 48 percent who disapprove, according to Quinnipiac. And in a bad sign for his upcoming 2012 re-election campaign, 50 percent of those polled say he doesn't deserve another term in the White House. In January,...

As if the poll showing improved approval of Congress under partial Republican leadership wasn't discouraging enough, now comes a new survey showing President Obama's second-year job approval near the bottom of presidents elected in the last six decades or so. Heading into the president's crucial 2011 State of the Union address next Tuesday evening, Gallup finds that Obama's second-year job approval averaged only 46.7%. That really looks pathetic when compared to his predecessor, George W. Bush's second-year average job approval of 71.3%. Or to the next highest second-year postwar job approval of 66.8% held by -- oh, look! -- another...

Are the political winds changing? … New NBC/WSJ poll has Obama approval at 53%... Also, 40% now label him a political moderate -- which is maybe why we haven’t heard “Obama is a socialist” in a while… But is this bump for Obama a transition or a transitory moment?... Poll also shows a short honeymoon for the GOP… Handicapping 2012… And polling birthright citizenship. From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Ali Weinberg *** Are the political winds changing? Exactly two years ago today, Barack Obama was sworn in as the country’s 44th president -- a sign that the...

The White House has to like the top-line results from the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, which shows Barack Obama getting an eight-point bounce over last month to 53% and 41% disapproving. It’s the first time in eight months that Obama has had a positive approval gap, since May’s 48/45. However, as the WSJ reports, the survey took place in the immediate aftermath of the Tucson shooting and memorial, which may make this rise transitory: Surges in presidential popularity are common after a galvanizing national tragedy, said Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster who co-directs the Journal/NBC News poll with Democrat...

The Chris Christie bandwagon may have hit a speed bump - at least a small one - based on results from two new polls released today. The polls, from Quinnipiac and Rutgers-Eagleton, show Christie's approval rating in New Jersey slipping a bit, with significant majorities skeptical that he'd make a good president or vice-president. The polling shows that Christie is one of the most polarizing governors in recent New Jersey history, with more voters holding both a very favorable view of him and an extremely negative view. The slippage comes as his national profile continues to rise (his "60...

The fact is that President Obama is in more need of political Viagra than any president since Jimmy Carter. We have pulled back the curtain on the all-knowing Obama only to find out that he’s just a scrawny, chain smoking, socialist, geek that is hell-bent on destroying (fundamentally transforming) America.

A majority of Americans don't think President Obama deserves to keep his job, a poll released today shows. With less than two weeks to go before the midterm elections, a survey conducted by Gallup shows that only 39 percent of Americans think Obama deserves to be re-elected in 2012. A staggering 54 percent think he should be a one-term president, the poll found. Earlier this year, between 46 and 48 percent of Americans said Obama should be re-elected. The survey also shows that Obama has averaged a job approval rating of 44.7 percent during the first seven quarters of his...

It's too late to back out now because President Obama is already racking up frequent flier miles on his Western campaign swing, allegedly to help out embattled Democratic senators. But a new Gallup Poll out this morning puts the top Democrat himself at his lowest approval rating ever and finds most Americans do not want the Real Good Talker to have a second term. Other than that, Obama should be a real help to Washington's embattled Patty Murray today and Nevada's embattled Harry Reid and California's embattled Barbara Boxer later, trying to salvage the large Democratic majorities in both houses...
