Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid — the son of head coach Andy Reid — has been charged with DWI in a Missouri car crash that left a 5-year-old girl with a brain injury, according to a report. Britt Reid was charged Monday in Jackson County in the Feb. 4 crash involving Ariel Young, who was seriously hurt when authorities say Reid hit a Chevrolet Traverse driven by the girl’s mother near the Chiefs practice field in Kansas City, KSHB reported. Court records show that Reid, 35, had a blood alcohol content of .113 after the crash, Jackson...

Governor Newsom’s shelter-in-place order and similar orders at the jurisdictional scale had a profound effect on daily travel in California, with >20 - 50% reductions found across select highways. This in turn seems to have resulted in a ~50% reduction in total collisions and injury/fatal accidents. This unintended benefit of the orders was primarily for drivers and passengers. There was no detectable reduction in impacts to large animals reported by the CHP on state highways and certain major roads. We appreciate the critical attention to detail and complete incident reporting by the CHP and look forward to increased support for...

The cars roll endlessly off the local assembly lines of the industry’s biggest automakers, more than 10,000 a day, into the eager hands of Brazil’s new middle class. The shiny new Fords, Fiats, and Chevrolets tell the tale of an economy in full bloom that now boasts the fourth largest auto market in the world. What happens once those vehicles hit the streets, however, is shaping up as a national tragedy, experts say, with thousands of Brazilians dying every year in auto accidents that in many cases shouldn’t have proven fatal. The culprits are the cars themselves, produced with weaker...

ROCHELLE — While family, friends and collegues struggle to cope with the untimely death of Marian Beguin on Tuesday afternoon, they are also remembering her as a fun-loving individual who cherished her relationships and lived life to the fullest, both personally and professionally. Beguin, 54, of Rochelle, died Tuesday after the car she was riding in was struck by a semi-truck driver who ran a red light at the intersection of IL Route 38 and Caron Road. “She was just a warm, loving person with many friends. She touched so many lives. It’s so unfair and she’s going to be...

In a series of new ads for Volkswagen's Jetta, drivers merrily go about their way, yakking it up with passengers, when a terrible crash occurs. Air bags burst open. Passengers emerge relatively unscathed. And the tagline appears: Safe happens. They are powerful commercials -- and just a tad misleading. After all, cars have been stuffed with air bags and a host of other government-mandated safety features for years. Yet more than 40,000 people still manage to die in highway accidents annually. In 2005, the number of traffic fatalities actually climbed to the highest level since 1990, according to data out...

Scrivner stopped, broke the van's windshield and pulled out the driver, her 22-year-old daughter and two 4-year-old boys. But he couldn't save...
