(CNN) -- Oklahoma's governor ordered every state highway, interstate and turnpike closed Thursday night, hours after declaring a statewide emergency because of a major winter storm battering the state and the rest of the central U.S. "I am urging all Oklahomans to take winter storm precautions and stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary," Gov. Brad Henry said earlier in the day after declaring a state of emergency. "This is a very serious winter storm, and we want Oklahomans to stay safe." Heavy snow and limited visibility has left treacherous road conditions in Oklahoma on Christmas Eve, snarling...

Last night, the models were all in pretty good agreement with taking this storm system from north-central Texas up through western Missouri and then into Minnesota which lead me in the direction of providing you the information in the latest post. Things may be on the change again. Not a huge surprise to me, though. As I had previously mentioned until the storm system really moves into the U.S. the upper air data would not be that great and that would influence the model outputs.

Supposedly he’s in Connecticut for the Jewish sabbath, but come on. We all know he’s in Barbados. Laughing his ass off. Already, they’ve wheeled in the cots for members and staff who choose to slumber party the night away in the Capitol, or Senate offices. But tomorrow, bright and early, all of them could need to be on hand for procedural reasons. For instance, Democrats expect to have to waive a budget point of order they expect Republicans to raise against the defense appropriations bill. That requires 60 votes… “After being assured by Democratic and Republican leaders that his vote...

More than 2,000 people spent hours trapped inside the Channel Tunnel after four Eurostar trains broke down due to cold weather. The trains failed as they left the cold air in northern France and entered the warmer tunnel. Some passengers were evacuated to car shuttle trains, while others remained on the stranded trains overnight. Eurostar say the four trains have been moved from the tunnel and passengers are being transferred to England. Meanwhile, more snow and freezing temperatures are expected for parts of Scotland and south-east and eastern England. Heavy snowfall caused travel chaos, forced schools to close and cut...

I knew that the Copenhagen conference would be a time to break out the shovels. I just didn’t realize that they would be snow shovels. Well, actually I suspected it would. The Copenhagen Post: “Bitter cold and steady snowfall has paralyzed the country’s roads and public transport since yesterday, and the icy cold weather is expected to get even worse over the next couple days.” What have I been saying? On Sunday night, the forecast was for record cold today in Copenhagen. Later that was upgraded to cold. Now, 4 inches of snow have fallen on the Church of Global...

Tempers boil as delegates wait in freezing weatherBy Michael Lim Ubac Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 04:43:00 12/18/2009 COPENHAGEN — Coffee or tea? Police officers serving warm drinks to civilians is definitely not part of the job description of the Philippine National Police, or police forces in other parts of the world. But Danish police officers known here as “politi” had to assume this rather odd role as delegates braced themselves for long queues just to get inside Bella Center, the site of the UN climate conference here. It’s like being public servants literally. Below zero On Monday, with the...
