A trio of gun rights advocates in Michigan have tried to address the knotty problem of what their kids might go through trying to figure why Mom and Dad go out armed when others don't. The authors of "My Parents Open Carry" say they couldn't find any pro-gun children's books, and so put theirs together with goal of providing "a wholesome family book that reflects the views of the majority of the American people, i.e., that self-defense is a basic natural right and that firearms provide the most efficient means for that defense." Writers Brian Jeffs and Nate Nephew are...

It is, at minimum, an intriguing coincidence that White House press secretary Robert Gibbs announced his resignation a mere three weeks before Simon & Schuster is publishing its much-buzzed-about January 25th release, O: A Presidential Novel by the celebrated author “Anonymous.” The book, described in news accounts as a 368-page roman à clef inspired by President Obama and his inner circle, has yet to leak, nor has Campbell Scott’s audio version been heard. The rumors suggest that the mysterious unnamed author has “vast personal experience” of the president and is privy to Obama’s 2012 reelection strategy.

From time to time, a book can change history. Dr. Jamie Glazov’s Showdown With Evil is such a book, for it restores faith in American exceptionalism. Although its author was not privileged to be born in this country — or maybe for that very reason — he has dedicated his life to promoting America’s excellence. His new book tells us why millions of people from all over the world are willing to pay any price, even death sentences, to join this unique land of freedom — as he and I both did. It also proves that the Democratic Party’s portrayal...

During a typical state-mandated defensive firearms class there comes an hour – usually during that sleepy time after lunch – where the instructor gives some obligatory advice on what to do should you ever be forced to use the skills you're learning. Generally the advice comes down to two points: * Call 911. * Don't say anything. The reason you call 911 is to demonstrate your human concern and compassion for the dirtbag whose chest you just ventilated as he threatened you or your family with death or grievous injury, and so that you can get police officers on-site to...

George W. Bush's book is atop the bestseller list, which could help explain the presence of hundreds of people who waited in line Monday at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C., to have a book signed by the former president and former first lady Laura Bush. The event sold out in a matter of hours Saturday. Library officials would not say how many people obtained the wristbands necessary for admission. According to USA Today, in the week ending Dec. 12, Bush's book, "Decision Points," which was released a week after the midterm election reached No. 1 on the nonfiction...

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) — Florida sheriff's deputies have arrested a Colorado man who wrote a guide for pedophiles on obscenity charges. Polk County deputies arrested Phillip Ray Greaves II at his home in Pueblo, Colo., early Monday on a warrant out of Florida. Polk Sheriff Grady Judd says his office was able to arrest Greaves on Florida obscenity charges because Greaves sold and mailed his book, The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-lover's Code of Conduct, to Polk deputies. Judd says Greaves even signed the book. The self-published book offered advice to pedophiles on how to make...

The LDS Church has made subtle — but significant — changes to chapter headings in its online version of the faith’s signature scripture, The Book of Mormon, toning down some earlier racial allusions. The words “skin of blackness” were removed from the introductory italicized summary in 2 Nephi, Chapter 5, in describing the “curse” God put on disbelieving Lamanites. Deeper into the volume, in Mormon, Chapter 5, the heading changes from calling Lamanites “a dark, filthy, and loathsome people” to “because of their unbelief, the Lamanites will be scattered, and the Spirit will cease to strive with them.”

Hundreds of people flooded Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington on Wednesday night to meet Sarah Palin, who visited the store to sign copies of her book America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag. To get one of the 500 vouchers available for places in line, customers had to buy a copy of the book from Joseph-Beth. Each person could bring two copies of the book for Palin...

Former President George W. Bush has pledged not to publicly criticize his successor, Barack Obama, but he did offer some praise Monday during a live broadcast on Facebook to promote his new book. Bush participated in an hour-long discussion on Facebook Live with the site's founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg and was asked what he thought the current administration was handling well. The former president responded that he liked Obama's policy on Afghanistan. "I think the idea of putting more troops in was something that I can applaud," Bush said. "I also appreciate some of the education position. As...

When discussing a new study about liberals’ and conservatives’ favorite television shows recently, pundit Bill O’Reilly and his guests mentioned that liberals like works about “flawed people.” If this is so, they will certainly appreciate Barack Obama’s just published children’s book, Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters. Much like Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” (which the author wrote for his 12-year-old son), Obama’s book was penned for his children Malia and Sasha — hence the subtitle A Letter to My Daughters. Unlike Kipling’s poem, however, I very much doubt his kids will be the better for reading it....

He's the leader of the free world, and he's won a Nobel Peace Prize. But only now, by one measure, is Barack Obama finally truly famous: He's written a children's book. Obama actually wrote "Of Thee I Sing" in 2008, after he was elected but before taking office, publishers said in September. On the cover of "Of Thee I Sing" is a whimsical drawing of Malia and Sasha, skipping along with Bo, their beloved dog. "Have I told you lately how wonderful you are?" the book begins. It proceeds to celebrate 13 American heroes and heroines. "Have I told you...

Last Monday, cartoonist and columnist Ted Rall told MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan that the revolution is nigh. “A war is coming,” Rall warned. “Are you going to fight back? Will you do whatever it takes, including taking up arms?” Rall was promoting his new book, “The Anti-American Manifesto,” and if you think his questions seem a little over the top, you’re likely one of “them” — a group Rall defines as “reactionary, stupid, overpaid, greedy, shortsighted, explicative, power-mad, abusive politicians and corporate executives.” The “Anti-American Manifesto” is a relentless and unfiltered condemnation of the corrupt capitalist husk currently known as the...

Two have to read books about the Muslim takeover of Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan and Malaysia. The first book "Among the Believers" is about the takeover in the seventies. The second book "Beyond Belief" looks at the takeover 20 years later when he returns to the countries and continues his interviews. If heed is not taken, it will be the story of the future of the west as Muslims use the same tactics today in Euroope and the United States. Worth the read.

In an interview today, the author at the center of a controversy about Amazon’s sale of a self-published pedophile’s guide told TSG that he has sold exactly one copy of the book and revealed that he was involuntarily hospitalized following a “mental breakdown.” Noting that, “I have what they call manic depression,” Phillip Greaves, 47, said that he himself was not a pedophile and that “the best advice I can give a pedophile is accept that masturbation is your best friend.” Greaves’s book, “The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct,” last week became available for...

NEW YORK – Amazon is selling a self-published book defending pedophiles, sparking discussions about the retailer's obligation to vet items before they are sold in its online stores. The book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover's Code of Conduct" by Philip R. Greaves II, offers advice to pedophiles afraid of becoming the center of retaliation. It is an electronic book available for Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle e-reader. The book has triggered mounting outrage on Twitter and beyond. A chorus of Twitter users is calling for Amazon to pull the book, with a few threatening to boycott the Kindle...

"He's been asking me for weeks to get him a Nintendo DSi for Christmas," Alicia explained. Her son, Alex, is only nine. Christmas is well over a month away but he's been relentlessly pressing for the "must-have" electronic toy that his classmates already own. Money is tight for Alicia's family these days, and the handheld device starts at 149.99. Games are extra, at $35 a pop. Alicia doesn't indulge in expensive clothes, trendy bags, or "must have" purchases-at least for herself. But when it comes to her son, mom-guilt too easily clouds her perspective. And retailers and advertising gurus wouldn't...

Two Minnesota icons will share the stage when humorist and author Garrison Keillor welcomes former Vice President Walter Mondale to the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul. Mondale will discuss his new memoir, "The Good Fight: A Life in Liberal Politics." The book follows Mondale's career from Minnesota attorney general to U.S. senator to vice president under Jimmy Carter. Keillor is an avowed Democrat. The host of public radio's "A Prairie Home Companion" endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and wrote the 2004 book, "Homegrown Democrat." The conversation will be held Nov. 22, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are on...
