Regardless of what one thinks about climate change and whether the theory is plausible or not, Barbara Boxer, with her 100% pro-choice voting record, talking about anything "endangering humankind" is the height of self-deluded deception. During a press conference on Capitol Hill, Barbara said the following: The message I have for climate deniers is this: you are endangering humankind. It is time for climate deniers to face reality, because the body of evidence is overwhelming and the world's leading scientists agree. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-CA), referring to a scientific "body of evidence" to attest...

California Democratic Rep. Barbara Boxer said Monday that Democrats will need to “play defense” against efforts by Republicans to question climate science in the next Congress. “We will have to play some defense. I’m not blind to that,” Boxer, the chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, told reporters at a Capitol news conference. “There are going to be a lot of moves to turn back the progress we’ve made.” Boxer’s comments come as some Republicans, particularly those emboldened by a new GOP majority in the House, have said they’d like to hold hearings on climate science as...

VERNON HILLS, Ill.—Rick Woldenberg runs an educational products company from a suburban Chicago office stacked with brightly colored toys. He backed Barack Obama in 2008. But he has turned on Democrats this year. Rick Woldenberg, chairman of Learning Resources in Chicago, backed President Barack Obama in 2008 but is now raising money for Republicans. .Mr. Woldenberg has never before been active in politics, but he is angry that Congress and the Obama administration won't revise expansive new rules on lead testing in children's products that he says will kill his business, Learning Resources Inc. So he is raising money for...

With the most sensational scandal in the history of science threatening to disrupt her pet project and investment portfolio, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has decided that the whistle blower, rather than the offender, should be punished in the ClimateGate affair. As reported, in part, at thehill.com: “Leaked e-mails allegedly undermining climate change science should be treated as a criminal matter, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Wednesday afternoon. ”Boxer, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said that the recently released e-mails, showing scientists allegedly overstating the case for climate change, should be treated as a crime....

Ending some nine months of closed-door deliberations, Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) will release global warming legislation Wednesday that they hope will be the vehicle for broader Senate negotiations and an eventual conference with the House. The bill's authors said last week that they expect to start hearings early next month on the bill, with a markup in Boxer's Environment and Public Works Committee to follow soon thereafter. They also acknowledged that their legislation is just a "starting point" in a bid to win over moderate and conservative Democrats, as well as Republicans. "I hope what we've...

That new tunnel? The one NJ Transit has been touting for years? That the Federal Transit Administration made a huge commitment to on Monday? It’s for cars. Or so Vice President Biden apparently thinks. Biden had just finished telling reporters on a conference call Monday that federal stimulus money might have gone out slower in the past few months than some people liked because, “We don’t end up with any major glitches.” Then The Record had a chance to ask about an environmental group’s complaint that Amtrak would not be able to use the new Hudson River tunnel – which...

RIVERVIEW, Fla. -- Three Tampa area schools are closed as authorities struggle to stop an ammonia leak. A boy drilling into a pipeline Monday night released a cloud of ammonia near the Alafia River that authorities are dissipating with water. The pipe carries ammonia from a port to fertilizer plants east of Tampa. Authorities say it may take another day or so to stop it. Some area neighborhoods were evacuated because ammonia in the air causes respiratory problems. The boy told authorities he drilled into the pipe because he heard money was hidden there. He was severely burned and taken...

TEHRAN, Iran — “If he’s convinced he’s right, he’s not going to change his mind, no matter what anyone says,” said the president’s friend. Though such assessments are frequently used to characterize President Bush, in this case it was a description of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Bush’s counterpart in Iran. The friend in this case is Nasser Hadian-Jazy, an associate professor of political science at Tehran University, who has known Ahmadinejad since grade school, and has recently become a minor celebrity in the West because of his friend’s ascent to power. “I wonder why more people haven’t noticed how much alike they...

The longest day of my short life occurred a week and a half ago. At some point while I slept in Pullman, the sun rose Thursday morning. That evening, I watched the gray sky fade from the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. On the road back to Pullman, the early morning rays lit up the sky again on the hill down into Washtucna. It was a long road trip. What was the purpose of this borderline insane trip? Former President Jimmy Carter, of course. Eighteen members of the WSU Young Democrats had an important meeting with the man...

It's hard to imagine that Patrick Kennedy would have gotten elected to Congress a dozen years ago without his last name. It's equally hard to imagine that the media would be going wild about his late-night car crash and prescription drug addiction if he weren't a Kennedy. The only lingering mystery is why national news organizations didn't pounce earlier on the Rhode Island Democrat's long history of alcohol and drug abuse, depression and a series of downright embarrassing incidents.

At the newscast at the top of the hour, George Weber reported that Teddy Kennedy has cancelled a scheduled book reading for schoolchildren in Brooklyn, NY, where he was to read his A Dogs Eye View of DC because of extensive media interest. Weber closed the segment by noting that the name of the Senator's dog was named "Splash"...

Sen. Barbara Boxer has always spoken up, but the California Democrat seems to have gotten a lot louder lately. Her opposition to Condoleezza Rice's secretary of state nomination was so combative that it was parodied on Saturday Night Live. That came on the heels of her decision to sign onto a House member's complaint about Ohio voting problems, forcing Congress to debate them before certifying President Bush's re-election victory. She's being touted on liberal blogs as the Democrats' best hope for president in 2008. Conservatives are excoriating her as - in House Minority Leader Tom DeLay's phrase - the leader...
