Incumbent Brad Henry is firmly in control of his bid for a second term as Oklahoma’s governor. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Henry leading his Republican challenger, U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook, 54% to 33%. That’s a 10-point jump in Henry’s lead since our last poll in May. Henry is faring much better with his party base as evidenced by the 83% of Democrats who say they’ll support him versus 58% of Republicans for Istook. May 7--Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry (D) leads his strongest Republican challenger, Ernest Istook, by 11 percentage points. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Henry with 50% of the statewide vote while Istook attracts 39% (see crosstabs). Support below 50% is generally considered problematic for an incumbent, but it's a good showing for a Democrat in a Republican-leaning state (in 2004, President Bush won 60% of the vote here). Henry beat Largent by a razor-thin margin out of about one (m) million votes cast today, leading by about five-thousand votes.
