FLORENCE, Ariz. - Over the weekend, Immigration and Customs Enforcement released hundreds of detainees, and Wednesday -- the executive who made that decision announced his retirement. The man in charge of arresting and deporting immigrants announced that he'll be retiring in April. Meanwhile, hundreds of detainees have been set free. It's a decision that Governor Jan Brewer calls "appalling." "I was jumping for joy, I was so happy to know I would be leaving," said Cesar Lorenti. Cesar Lorenti is free from prison, along with hundreds of other illegal immigrants, after the Department Of Homeland Security authorized the release ahead...

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: $85 billion sequester quickly approaching and a debt quickly headed towards $17 trillion. Sound like reasons for concern? Well, not if you ask Vice President Joe Biden, the vice president saying the American people are no longer worried about our economy. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) JOSEPH BIDEN, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: They're no longer traumatized by what was a traumatizing event, the great collapse in 2008. They're no longer worried, I think, about our economy being overwhelmed either by Europe writ large, the EU, or China somehow swallowing up every bit of innovation...

SEE:Poison pill? GOP governors divided over whether to accept ObamaCare Medicaid expansion By Lee Ross Published February 06, 2013 FoxNews.com "Saying 'no' to this plan would not save these federal dollars from being spent or direct them to deficit reduction," Brewer determined. So far, five other Republican-led states -- Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Michigan and Ohio -- have announced support for the expanded program“ These five GOP governors are now complicit in the Obama Administration’s policies which will borrow this Medicaid expansion money from China, drastically increasing our national debt, and result in our nation’s younger generation being born...

Dear Friends, I have been in contact with Senator McCain regarding the now released immigration reform ideas presented by his working group of Senators. I am pleased that there is expressed recognition of what we have been saying in Arizona: immigration reform will not succeed unless and until we have achieved effective border security. If this occurs, it would be a triumph for the rule of law and a testament to the united voices of Americans from across our country who have been clear in their call for the federal government to uphold its duty to secure the border. Our...

Immigration fallout from saying no to 'Obamacare' WASHINGTON (AP) — Governors who reject health insurance for the poor under the federal health care overhaul could wind up in a politically awkward position on immigration: A quirk in the law means some U.S. citizens would be forced to go without coverage, while legal immigrants residing in the same state could still get it. It's an unintended consequence of how last year's Supreme Court decision changed the Medicaid provisions of President Barack Obama's health care law. The overhaul expanded the federal-state program for low-income and disabled people. The Supreme Court made the...

One of the most transformative aspects of Obamacare is that it conscripts state governments for the purpose of providing subsidized health insurance to their residents. Most red states have done their best to refuse, by declining to expand their Medicaid programs, and by passing up the opportunity to set up state-based insurance exchanges, through which Obamacare’s subsidies would flow. But a handful of Republican governors are doing their part to implement Obamacare. Arizona’s Jan Brewer, in particular, is proposing to do so in a way that sheds a lot of light onto the trap that Obamacare has set for state...

PHOENIX — Immigrant rights advocates filed a lawsuit Thursday that seeks to overturn Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s order denying driver’s licenses for young immigrants who have gotten work permits and avoided deportation under a new Obama administration policy.

Today is the birthday of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who helped spark a movement across America to take back the rule of law on immigration when she signed S.B. 1070 on April 23, 2010. She has shown grit and determination in the face of constant opposition and hostility from the Obama Administration. And she stood alone to oppose Obama's lawless "Dream" amnesty by declaring that those illegal aliens would be barred from driver's licenses, in-state tuition and state benefits. She has been steadfast in her dedication to the rule of law, and today we salute her... HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOVERNOR!Please leave...

The last barrier to Arizona's enforcement of its landmark immigration law has been swept away - and by a left-leaning court to boot. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Tuesday rejected the ACLU and its allies, by denying the coalition’s emergency motion for an injunction to block the key provision of S.B. 1070's. That provision, Section 2B, requires state and local police officers to attempt to determine the immigration status of any person stopped under state or local law if “reasonable suspicion” exists that the person is unlawfully present in the United States. Section 2B - the heart of...

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York has apparently been invited as a major speaker at the Values Voter Summit, Sept. 14-16 in Washington, D.C. So says the summit's website. If he accepts the invitation, he would share the stage with such right-wing luminaries as Michele Bachman (R-Minn.), who thinks Islamic radicals are lurking everywhere; Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona, who signed the anti-immigrant "papers, please" law in her state; and none other than Republican vice-presidential pick Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, author of a budget that would end Medicare as we know it and cut funds for the needy to make...

Brewer is the Arizona empress who has now defied a directive from the Obama administration, whose easing of deportation rules took effect last week. The federal ruling allowed more than one million people to qualify for the temporary program, which enables certain younger illegal immigrants to apply for work permits, Society Security cards and driver’s licenses. Unless they live in Arizona. The almighty emperor Brewer says no way. ANd if she is breaking federal law, well, hey, she's the empress. Nobody tells her what to do. Last week, she signed an order barring illegal immigrants who qualify from getting any...

PHOENIX - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday ordered state agencies to deny driver's licenses and other public benefits to young illegal immigrants who obtain work authorizations under a new Obama administration policy. In an executive order, Brewer said she was reaffirming the intent of current Arizona law denying taxpayer-funded public benefits and state identification to illegal immigrants. Young illegal immigrants around the nation on Wednesday began the process of applying for federal work permits under the Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. The federal policy defers deportations for that group if they meet certain criteria, including arrival in...

There’s a lot of talk today about the Supreme Court ruling, and I’ve seen some good analysis here. However, there are many provisions in SB 1070 that went into effect two years ago that should not be ignored, and, hopefully, are being picked up in other states. Only 4 parts of the law were enjoined. The rest was left standing, and because it DID have a severability clause, the rest of the law remains untouched. There’s a great analysis of the enjoined sections and, as Governor Brewer pointed out, the law is only a few pages long and is easy...

Arizona already is gearing up to enforce its strict immigration law as it anticipates a favorable ruling from the Supreme Court sometime this month, with Gov. Jan Brewer issuing an executive order Monday telling police to bone up on the details of the law. Mrs. Brewer ordered that training materials produced to help police understand the law and its limits should be distributed throughout the state in preparation for a ruling. The materials, created by a state board that sets standards for all law enforcement, include a DVD designed to help police understand the circumstances that would allow them to...

PHOENIX - Guns in public buildings are just a Jan Brewer signature away from being legal, for the second time in two years. On a 19-11 vote, the Senate on Thursday approved overriding existing laws that say governments need only to post a sign at the entrance of a public building to make it illegal for visitors to enter when armed. HB 2729 would still allow government agencies to keep their buildings off-limits to guns, but only if they install metal detectors and armed guards at all entrances. The vote sends the bill to the governor, who vetoed a similar...

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer made her much-anticipated endorsement in the Republican presidential nomination contest earlier today on NBC’s Meet the Press — and it went to Mitt Romney, who once had a huge lead in her state but has struggled to maintain an edge over Rick Santorum. Will Brewer’s pick help Romney lock up the winner-take-all state on Tuesday?

The Arizona governor could deploy an armed, volunteer militia to respond to natural disasters and patrol the Arizona-Mexico border for illegal immigrants and drug-traffickers under a legislative proposal (SB1495, creates a volunteer state militia) to fund a state guard. The state would pay $1.9 million to activate the Arizona State Guard, created last year through an executive order signed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer. Arizona would join 23 other states and territories with active guards, but the state would stand alone (as) its militia focused on border enforcement…

By now, everyone who pays even peripheral attention to current events has seen the photo (shown) that so clearly captures the tension between the personalities of President Barack Obama and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. Since it became public, much of the debate surrounding it centers on whether or not Brewer’s pointing at and, apparently, scolding Obama was a sign of disrespect towards the Office of the White House. But, in her latest editorial on her organization’s website (see the link below), Phyllis Schlafly, the National Chairman of the Republican National Coalition for Life and founder of the pro-family Eagle Forum,...

On Wednesday the Arizona Senate Government Reform Committee discussed a package of bills that are intended to curb public employee union corruption. SB 1485 would prohibit government bodies from collectively bargaining with public employee unions. SB 1487 would end the practice of automatic payroll deductions for union dues. SB 1486 would ban the practice of compensating public employees for union work.
