Yesterday I attempted to install the latest Windows Update, after my computer went rogue and started freezing, as it does every time I ignore the Update. It runs Vista because I've refused 8, 9 and 10. The Progress Bar spun at "Downloading" for over an hour. I got out and went looking for a solution. One that made sense was "Complete any other update then try again" so I did. The system was then stuck at "searching for updates" and would only last a few minutes before crashing. I got to the Microsoft site and found the correct update, 32...

WASHINGTON -- Only about 1 in 5 defective tires is being removed from the road through the safety recall process, a federal accident investigations board said Tuesday. The recall system is "broken" because manufacturers are unable to contact most tire owners to warn them, according to a report from the National Transportation Safety Board. **SNIP** The problem is that there is no requirement for most tire dealers to register the tires they sell with the manufacturer, the board said. Most dealers don't take the time to do so, which makes it difficult for manufacturers to determine who owns the tires...

Of the many places from which to observe the Irish health service, the flat of your back is one of the worst. Too often at this moment, when patients are at their most vulnerable, the system lets them down. It certainly failed Rose O’Halloran. The 101-year-old spent more than 24 hours trapped on a trolley at the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, in Tallaght, on the Monday of the June bank holiday. […] At least O’Halloran eventually got the treatment she needed. In Portlaoise and other towns, babies have been dying or suffering disablement in maternity units in circumstances that vary...

So my Durango with the 4.7 that wouldn't start has a broken timing chain on the right cam. It only has 140k and I have had 318/360 trucks that went well over 300k before they had any problems; and I have NEVER had a timing chain break during normal operations. I have had Chryslers most of my life and the worst thing I had was a spun bearing on a one ton van (at 350k). Does anybody know if this motor has a reputation for weak timing chains? I know they have gasket and EGR problems.

A potential showdown is looming over a pair of City Council proposals that would decriminalize a host of offenses — including fare-beating, drinking on the street and public urination — in an overhaul that could dramatically impact the NYPD’s “broken windows” approach to policing. The measures, still the focus of ongoing negotiations, could pit some Council members against Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, who raised questions about the potential changes just last month. City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito’s office is working on a proposal that would make some of the most common criminal court summonses civil charges instead. Violators would get...

Immigration Law Is Broken? I wasn’t clear how I would ask this question because it can be misunderstood. Is it better to make this statement, The Immigration Law is Broken. Or Is it better to ask this question, Is the Immigration Law is Broken? I hear the president and others in government using the expression, immigration laws are broken and therefore in need of reform. Comprehensive reform as they express it. This creates a conundrum because when I read the law I don’t see anything broken. What does appear to be broken is the enforcement of the Immigration laws....

Although one of his staff members denied it, Cindy Adams from the New York Post insisted: “Reported to me, Henry Kissinger has stated - and I quote the statement word for word: ‘In 10 years, there will be no more Israel’”. Kissinger is a controversial figure. He can hardly be suspected of excessive sympathy for Israel. He perhaps, inclines to the “syndrome of self-hatred” so fashionable nowadays in the Jewish elite. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says Washington "feels as broken as it did four years ago," when he took office. He's most frustrated by the inability "to change the atmosphere" in the capital "to reflect the decency and common sense of ordinary people" who want leaders to solve problems. He adds "there's enough blame to go around for that." Obama tells CBS' "Sunday Morning" that there's no doubt that he underestimated how much "politics trump problem-solving."

Critics have suggested the state will default on its debt payments, that it is addicted to spending and that it has a hostile business climate. It's tempting right now to say President Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents ever to dis-grace the White House. But is that fair, or even accurate? Historian renderings of a legacy are often at odds with fluctuating public opinion polls that gauge the heat of the moment. Take Truman. The man had a 22 percent approval rating toward the end of his presidency--due in large part to a highly unpopular Korean War--yet he's among the most popular presidents in history. John McCain's message machine shifted gears today -- after a week or so of offbeat efforts to annoy and exasperate Barack Obama, the Republican's campaign launched a new bid to distance himself from the titular head of his own party. A 60-second McCain television ad airing in several of this year's key battleground states seeks to both remind voters of the "maverick" image that gained him national prominence and undercut arguments that he's a President Bush clone. Out of frustration with the current primary system several observers and magazines have suggested a single nationwide primary. This would cause as many problems as it fixes, including making money a huge determining factor and (therefore) giving even more power to the MSM to pick our candidates. Several of these commentators have compounded the bad idea of a All-State Primary with the worse suggestion that the Congress mandate it. The proposed plan is not great for several reasons. First off is Constitutionality. The Republican party is not a branch of the US Government which the Congress can legislate rules for!...

This morning the Supreme Court came down with two decisions about patent law that both take small, but extremely important, steps towards reigning in some of the worst abuses of the patent system. In both cases, it's disagreed with the position taken by the Appeals Court for the Federal Circuit (CAFC). This isn't a huge surprise, as many observers figured that the Supreme Court's recent interest in all sorts of patent cases meant that the justices weren't at all happy with the way CAFC was moving. This is a good thing, as the past twenty-five years or so of CAFC...

RAMADI, Iraq (June 28, 2006) -- New York City Police Department Detective Evan L. Schwerner had nearly 21 years off active duty in the Marine Corps when in the four-year wake of Sept. 11, 2001, he decided he could better serve his family and country in the global war on terror as a Marine in Iraq. Cpl. Schwerner joined the Marine Corps Reserve in May 2005 as a hazardous material and waste Marine then volunteered to deploy with the 3rd Civil Affairs Group. He was subsequently assigned to the CAG’s Detachment 4, currently based at the Provincial Civil Military Operations...

I am curious why none of the media covers the most important aspect of the Malvo shootings. If you look at Newspapers on the dates when the shootings are underway you discover something I find quite interesting. The shootings begin to dominate the news the day before the debate on the Iraq war starts and they catch them the day after the declaration of war??? If you ask most people "do you remember the debate about starting the second Iraq war", they will all answer "yes of course". But if you followup with the question "name one point in the...

I recently received a reply to a post that stated: "This should be beneath a "freeper". Sad." So I asked.. what is it that makes a FReeper? My reply (and I will admit was tasteless) was also questioning. It stirred controversy and was removed? Why Moderators? Can you not tell me? Did it not meet with your "FReeper" mentality? According to all posted guidelines it should be listed but no, you chose to delete it. Yes.. I'm the first one IBTZ, I'm sure you'll nick me for speaking up..
  • CA: Another “Through the Looking Glass” Week - The process is broken…

I know this happens every year in the Legislature, and sometimes I think that those who read my weekly discussion on Sacramento must get bored that I keep saying the same things over and over. Then I realize, the news media does not report these events. In fact, I think that people wouldn’t believe it if the newspaper or television did report it. As I walk through the halls of the Capitol, I feel a little like Alice as she walked through Wonderland. I know I have seen a number of the white rabbits (who are always looking at their...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2006 – The Army is going through a remarkable transformation and is far from a "broken" force, DoD officials told the House Armed Services Committee today. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said the Army is becoming a more agile and deployable force capable of handling and sustaining missions around the world. "Those who use words like 'broken Army' are flat wrong," Rumsfeld said. "Many of the criticisms and dire predictions about the Army have come from people who may be well-intentioned but who nonetheless are proceeding from outdated and inaccurate information." "The Army is not broken," Army...

The disciplinary arm of the N.C. State Bar dropped charges of felonious misconduct against two former Union County prosecutors Friday because of a 1999 clerical error at the state Supreme Court. The State Bar had charged Kenneth Honeycutt and Scott Brewer with lying, cheating and withholding evidence in a 1996 death penalty case. The ruling Friday marks the second time that Honeycutt and Brewer won on procedural grounds before the bar's Disciplinary Hearing Commission, which sits as judge and jury in disciplinary cases. . . . Prosecutors around the state are concerned that the case is damaging their reputation and...

Fellow Americans, there comes a time every mans life when we must give up ourselves before we are worthy to recieve. There comes a time in this war on terror when in order to protect liberty, we have to give it up in the mean time for safty. That's right folks. Today, Americans have forsaken the creator for the creation and have decided that they would value our "civil liberties" than protecting western civilization and rich white people from the tender mercies of radical Islamic terrorists. Selfish liberals insist and whine that Bush has no right to spy on Americans...
