The Waffle House in Columbia, South Carolina gives one an interesting panoramic view of the American electorate--a microcosm of the U.S. population. Here there are white-collar government types, blue collar whites, African-Americans, Hispanics, the works. Conversations over the past week in this popular gathering place have centered on Barack Obama and the state of the economy. South Carolina has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the nation, which spiked up by .3% in December to 12.6%. December's unemployment figures for the entire nation continued to move upward, in spite of the jobs created by the holiday season. The...

NPR Blames Conservatives for Obama's Broken Promises By Candance Moore Created 01/23/2010 - 10:18 Whatever version of healthcare reform President Obama gets from Congress will look nothing like the promises he made while campaigning. According to NPR, it has nothing to do with Obama belting empty campaign slogans. Rather, NPR fired off a litany of conservative bogeymen, from Republicans to moderate Democrats to Sarah Palin's "death panels" to explain why Obama's campaign message has failed to materialize. In an article [1] printed Thursday called "Why Public Support For Health Care Faltered," NPR, in cooperation with Kaiser Health News, began with...

Today marks the one-year anniversary of President Obama's executive order to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay within his first year in office. We are fortunate that the President did not meet that goal, but he has repeatedly stated that his Administration remains committed to importing the remaining terrorists held at Gitmo to the United States for trial or detention - including to the suburbs of Chicago, downtown New York City, and potentially even the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. Over the last few months, the Administration has signaled that it will not only bring 9/11 mastermind Khalid...

January 20, 2009 - President Obama made some big promises to the people. One year later has he kept his word? Let's take a look at what he said and then what he did. Barack Hussein Obama made a lot of promises during his two-year long campaign, and attempted to solidify these pledges in his inaugural address. True, these promises took a softer form (some might call it pap) in his inaugural speech, but those who supported him and voted for him in 2008 understood what he was meant to do on their behalf. This was, of course, before...

Voters in Massachusetts cast their votes yesterday amid freezing temperatures and falling snow. They provided a window to America’s sour mood, even in this traditional Democratic stronghold. “I think the country is a mess,” Kathelyn Neas, a stay-at-home mother, said at a polling station at South Boston Library. Seamus Kelley, a state employee, voted for the Democratic candidate but said: “I think there are a lot of people who, because of this economy, are not happy with any incumbents. In the last two elections it was Iraq and Afghanistan and people took their ire out on President Bush. Now it’s...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they'll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans. In a meeting at the White House, Obama expressed his preference for the insurance tax contained in the Senate's health overhaul bill, but largely opposed by House Democrats and organized labor, Democratic aides said. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

Are you ready to admit that the myth you voted for is not what you are getting? We've talked a lot in the past week about Obama brazenly violating his pledge to conduct health care negotiations on C-Span where the entire country could watch as the process unfolded. It didn't happen. But knowing how skillful our Obama loving friends are in the art of self deception, I doubt many of them cared. After all, they had to make quite a few excuses to themselves to get excited about such an inexperienced and unqualified candidate, all for the sake of some hokey...

As the contrast between candidate Obama’s repeated invocation of CSPAN and President Obama’s repeated recourse to secrecy reveals, the only thing “transparent” about this administration is its dishonesty, which, like Falstaff’s, “is gross as a mountain, open palpable.” Even the circumspect Brian Lamb, CEO of CSPAN, was moved to lament Obama’s poaching on the prestige of the network to further the Democratic political agenda. Left and right, the public has reacted badly to this blatant failure to honor a campaign promise that was made not once, not twice, but at least eight times. The President’ Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, has...

Now this is a guaranteed rape job. In a short conversation this noontime that CNBC apparently has omitted from their archives (Why's that folks?) Rick Santelli was talking about a potential to effectively force money into the Treasury market. Where would they get this? From your 401k and IRA accounts! From Businessweek: The U.S. Treasury and Labor Departments will ask for public comment as soon as next week on ways to promote the conversion of 401(k) savings and Individual Retirement Accounts into annuities or other steady payment streams, according to Assistant Labor Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi and Deputy Assistant Treasury...

George Orwell’s Animal Farm taught us that while all animals are equal, some animals are more equal than others. Now, we have E.J. Dionne (whose…unique…brand of logic and argumentation Tim has noticed and argued with since his days at the Ball State Daily News op-ed page) to tell us that all broken campaign promises are equal, but some are more equal than others. Specifically, any broken promise that helps further a leftist cause–why, that can hardly be called a broken promise at all, and definitely not a lie. Take Obama’s latest backtrack on campaign openness, vis-a-vis his promise to let...
