Microsoft and Google engineers appear to be collaborating to support a version of Chrome running on Windows on ARM. 9to5Google has spotted various commits by Microsoft engineers assisting with the development of Chrome for Windows 10 on ARM. The details follow claims by a Qualcomm executive last month that the chip maker was working on an ARM version of Chrome for Windows 10. A native ARM version of Chrome would make a lot of sense for Qualcomm, Microsoft, and Google. Chrome is one of the most popular desktop apps available on Windows 10, and without a native version for ARM...

Does anyone know of a GOOD search engine? I want to get off of Google for many reasons -- I don't care about tracking since I anonymize but when they stopped linking direct URLs to images that was the last straw. But Yahoo (I know almost as as bad) mostly returns other search engine results -- Google is much better at listing direct results. Alta Vista and Dogpile (am I old?) also disappoint. Thanks for the bazillion suggestions smarter/more experienced FReepers will provide!

"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you." I don't know, or care, who said that originally, but in this age of hacking and cyber corruption – and the deep state trying desperately to defeat the forces of light - it's becoming increasingly clear that there appears to be folks out in cyberspace who don't have your best interests in mind. Indeed, you may have heard about how Facebook and Google have been revealed as corrupt data miners more interested in raking in cash and helping their fellow political travellers than in providing the benign...

Grab some popcorn: Redmond has asked for feedbackMicrosoft’s about to test a new feature of Windows 10 that will force users to employ its Edge browser under some circumstances.Revealed in the announcement of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17623 for Skip Ahead, the change means “we will begin testing a change where links clicked on within the Windows Mail app will open in Microsoft Edge”.Microsoft’s justification for the change is that Edge is the best, most secure browser on Windows 10.But the change will reportedly override users’ preference for default browser. While that’s naughty in lots of ways and makes Microsoft’s...

The Senate voted to kill Obama-era online privacy regulations, a first step toward allowing internet providers such as Comcast, AT&T and Verizon to sell your browsing habits and other personal information as they expand their own online ad businesses. Those rules, not yet in effect, would have required internet providers to ask your permission before sharing your personal information.

Since Free Republic has come back online, I can no longer access it using the Brave browser. The page loads, but as soon as my sidebar appears, the page errors and I get this message: The HTTP response body is transferred with Chunked-Encoding, but the terminating zero-length chunk was never sent when the connection is closed. Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution or an explanation?

What is the state of encryption and other security debates on Capitol Hill? A. This is going to be a big, big two months. First, obviously, there are those who want to weaken encryption. They are still at it. Then, the F.B.I. wants authority to circumvent court oversight to obtain Americans’ browsing histories. Third, there is what’s known as Rule 41, where the F.B.I. wants the authority to hack thousands or millions of hacking victims with one warrant from a single judge. Started using the "Brave" browser today after downloading and setting it up last night. Browser was written by the programmer who wrote Firefox but who was later forced out at Mozilla by the queers, freaks and perverts for supporting traditional marriage. Browser blocks all ads and popups which makes browsing quick and efficient again. Not a lot of instructions but most of the setup mirrors Firefox or is intuitive. Can be obtained free from WWW.Brave.com

Firefox has gone nuts by rejecting the certificates from many legitimate websites including YouTube and Gmail. The instructions say to go to Advanced and create an exception for each website. This is still a problem because some websites cannot be added and others only last for one time only. I have been to the Settings tab and there is no security setting that I can find that addresses this issue. IE doesn't have this issue at all, just Firefox. Thanks for any suggestions? Internet Explorer doesn't have

During a PBS town hall meeting, president Obama was asked why he and Hillary want to control and restrict guns and ammunition to responsible gun owners. Obama's response was the typical stock answer of rejecting the "notion" that anyone is hell-bent on taking away "folks' guns", yada yada. However, as AllOutdoor notes, if you listen carefully to Obama's full response, there is a comment Obama gives about knowing browser history that should sent everyone into a blind rage. "I just came from a meeting, today, in the situation room, in which I’ve got people who we know have been on...

I remember when Mozilla fired Brendan Eich for being a normal human being, I was sort of bummed that I was going to stop browsing with Firefox. I'm not really the organized boycotting type, but I am someone who simply refuses to participate in idiocy. If some anti-American Hollywood liberal wants to fight against a normal civilization, then I just stop watching their movies and buying their music. If a coffee establishment tells their baristas to engage with me about race when I'm trying to get my morning triple venti soy latte, then I go elsewhere. If one of my favorite conservative-leaning talk show hosts starts supporting a liberal for President, then I turn the dial. It's not that I keep a list, but if it's seared into my brain deep enough, then I certainly alter my habits as a consumer of products, services, and content. Conversely, if someone is under attack by Marxists, then I tend to overly support them, like the Chick-Fil-A scenario, where I was stuffing my face with spicy chicken sandwiches several times per week for months. Thank goodness that died down. Anyway, I knew whatever Eich ended up doing, if it was a product or service, I was going to be a customer. I have no idea what Eich's politics are, but I know he is someone worth supporting.

Browse the web with privacy and security with these best secure browsers. Protect your privacy online with the eight best secure browsers you can use in 2016.What does the idea of a secure browser mean in 2016? The world is now more complex than it was in 2010 when we last looked at the contenders. People are more oriented to mobile devices running under very different conditions while a range of security features such as URL filtering, download protection and do not track have transformed mainstream desktop browsers such as Chrome, IE and Firefox. In a sense all browsers could...

It's possible that you reached this article purely by chance, or you may have Googled 'how to change the default search engine in Microsoft Edge'. However you got here, the fact that you're reading this indicates that you're either interested in Windows 10's Edge, or actively use it -- and this means there's something you need to know. If you fall into the latter camp and use Edge's InPrivate mode to cover your online tracks, you might want to think about changing your web browser. Edge has already got some stick for its lack of extension support -- "it's coming,...

January 13 is the last day for business and individual users to move off older versions of the Internet Explorer web browser, before Microsoft pulls the plug on support including security patches. The deadline this week comes 18 months after Microsoft warned that it would cease to support Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 10, giving users time to upgrade. Microsoft suggests users upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and 8.1, or use the new Edge browser if they're on Windows 10. Edge is able to launch Internet Explorer 11 when needed, for backwards compatibility.

With recent revelations about browser fingerprinting, the race is on to find ways and means that will help reduce your browser's fingerprint, and with it, make it difficult for it (and you) to be tracked. After trying Panopticlick yesterday, a tool released by the Electronic Frontier Foundation to help users determine if their browser is safe against tracking and fingerprinting, I set out to find out how to make my browsers less unique to trackers. For the very paranoid, the results are not good.Under default settings, a browser like Mozilla Firefox and Iceweasel emit very unique fingerprints, as shown in the...
