Soldiers, Border Police, and other security forces work around the clock to fight illegal Palestinian Authority entry to Israel. At the same time, however, PA Arabs are able to travel to the heart of central Israel without the need to go through any security checks, simply by boarding a bus. Malkiel Feder of Har Bracha in Samaria was traveling to the city of Ramat Gan on a bus run by the Afikim company when he noticed that PA Arabs were getting on and off freely. At first he assumed they were Israeli Arabs from Kfar Kassem, but as the bus...

An 18-year-old walked away with what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a bus near the University of Texas at Austin. KXAN in Austin reports that Cyril Yannick “Nick” Engmann, 18, of Rockwall, was joining other students in “Foam Sword Friday,” an end-of-the-semester tradition, when he ran onto the street just as a bus was driving by. Shocked onlookers, who, like Engmann, were waving foam swords, watched as he was knocked several feet in front of the bus. He then walked away from the crash, but was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out....

Concealed carry on the St. Louis light rail system, MetroLink, is not only prohibited but a felony. Moreover, as noted in the comments in my post on concealed carry at the NRA Annual Meeting, carry on buses is specifically prohibited. Things may be changing on this. Missouri Rep. Ed Schieffer (D-Troy) has introduced a bill, HB 1483, which would forbid any local government from prohibiting concealed carry on trains or public buses. The relevant section of his bill states: 3. No political subdivision of this state shall prohibit a person with a valid concealed carry endorsement from carrying a concealed...

GENEVA — A bus smashed into a tunnel wall in the Swiss Alps, killing 22 Belgian 12-year-olds returning from a ski vacation and the six adults who were accompanying them, police said Wednesday. Another 24 students were hospitalized with injuries, Valais cantonal (state) police spokesman Jean-Marie Bornet told The Associated Press. The bus carrying 52 people, including young students from two different Belgian schools, hit the tunnel wall shortly after 9 p.m. local time Tuesday on the A9 highway near Sierre, Switzerland, in the southern Swiss canton of Valais, an area of popular ski resorts. Authorities were still identifying all...

Transit union hires Democratic lobbying firm to help end bus-driver fatigueBy Kevin Bogardus - 02/26/12 01:20 PM ET A major transit union has hired a well-connected Democratic lobbying firm to help with its push for bus drivers' overtime pay. The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has hired the Ickes & Enright Group to lobby on the highway bill as well as on legislation that would remove an overtime pay exemption for intercity bus drivers. The firm began working for the union on Jan. 1, according to lobbying disclosure records, on what has become a huge issue for bus operators and companies:...

CHESTERFIELD, N.J.—A dump truck collided with a bus carrying elementary schoolchildren on Thursday, killing an 11-year-old daughter of a state trooper and critically injuring three other students -- two of them the triplet sisters of the dead girl, authorities said. The accident occurred just after 8 a.m. at a four-way intersection in Chesterfield, a town south of Trenton. It sent the bus, which was carrying 25 students, crashing sideways into a traffic signal pole, crumpling the side. Police said 17 students received injuries, most of them minor.

The story is shocking enough, even without bringing race into it: on the way to school in Ocala, FA, a thirteen-year-old girl was beaten unconscious and reportedly went into a seizure after being attacked on the school bus by a group of fellow students. The girl reportedly was riding the bus for the first time. Someone threw a shoe at her, and she threw it back, hitting a student. That's when the beating began. At least seven students surrounded the girl, punched her, held her head to the floor by her hair, and kicked her. The bus driver pulled the...

MIAMI (AP) — Seven central Florida teenagers were arrested after authorities said they punched and kicked a 13-year-old until she was unconscious while on a school bus. The victim told authorities that Friday was her first time riding the bus and no one would let her sit down. About 75 children were riding the bus bound for a middle school in Ocala, a rural city north of Orlando. The victim said someone threw a shoe at her and she threw one back, according to an arrest report. One girl allegedly asked students if they wanted to hit the victim, then...

A nine-year-old Florida girl is facing four felony charges after she allegedly threw a tantrum yesterday on a school bus, spit on the driver, threw rocks at the bus, and tossed a patio chair at a cop, who she warned, “I will f***** kill you!” The child, a fourth grader at the Royal Palm School in Fort Myers, was traveling home when the driver told her to stop eating candy on the bus. The girl “became very upset” and started yelling obscenities at driver Robert Middleton,

(Reuters) - New York City authorities said they will shut down a city bus service run by Orthodox Jews if the group doesn't stop making women sit at the back of the bus. The Private Transportation Corp, which operates the city's public B110 bus under a franchise arrangement, has come under criticism following publicity about its practice of making women give up their seats in the front to promote Hasidic customs of gender separation. New York City's Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Gastel said the agency's executive director Anne Koenig has asked the company to respond to the allegations and...

Almost eclipsed by the PR disaster of his lavish vacation at Martha’s Vineyard was the PR debacle of President Obama’s “listening tour,” in which he blasted through small towns in a gigantic motorcade dominated by two million-dollar Canadian buses, pausing to give political speeches before hand-picked audiences. Although clearly a part of Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, this was all funded by the U.S. taxpayer, and the expense was enormous. It turns out it might have been even more enormous than we thought, because the whole “bus tour” was a gigantic fraud. As related by Rob Port at Say Anything: White...

This is really disgusting! The so called “Bus Tour” was not a bus tour at all ! An AP reporter said that Obama might have ridden these expensive buses only one mile at each stop. Therefore, it wasn’t really a “BUS TOUR”! Obamaspent most of the “BUS TOUR” on an airplane traveling between stops. Itlooks like Obama has scammed the American people again........with the help of the liberal media. It’s no damn telling just how much this “show” cost the American taxpayer. Let’s be fair here. The President must be exhausted. And why not? Consider: He’s just spent 3 solid days on board one of the most luxurious buses you and I could possibly pay for. Correct me if I’m wrong, but did he get even ONE round of golf in during the past 3 days? I don’t think so. It gets worse: The travel agency that booked this 3-day tour – for some reason – did NOT book him into any urban areas where blacks and Hispanics are suffering from unemployment rates as much as two or three times the national...

man serving time for sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman on a Metro Transit bus has been charged with an almost identical crime. Herbert Lee House III, 23, who is serving a five-year sentence for a Feb. 22 assault, was charged Tuesday with third-degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly unzipping the pants of a woman next to him on a Metro Transit bus Aug. 24, 2010, and assaulting her with his hand. The woman, who has fetal alcohol syndrome, was "completely frightened and didn't know what to do," according to the criminal complaint. She said she got off the bus...

The IDF attacked terror targets in Rafah in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, in response to a three-stage terrorist attack which killed seven Israelis and wounded dozens in the South earlier in the day. Five Palestinians were killed in the joint IDF and Shin Bet strike. Among those killed was the chief of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), Kamal al-Nairab. The four others that were killed were also members of the terrorist faction . Security sources said that the PRC was behind Thursday's triple attack near Eilat. They added that the operatives had crossed from the Gaza Strip into Egypt...

They say that perception is important, especially in politics. So even though Obama’s new, tricked-out bus for his three-day, Midwest bus tour was purchased through a U.S. retailer, the fact that it was made in Canada will surely raise some eyebrows. Rumors started swirling this week on blogs and in comment sections that Obama’s bus — nicknamed “Greyhound One” — was not American-made, which is ironic considering part of the president’s goal on the tour has been to talk about jobs and getting Americans back to work. The (Canucklehead Obama bus-ted! (PHOTOS) the large vehicles were originally built in Canada...

Mitt Romney slammed President Barack Obama in advance of the president's bus tour of midwestern states Monday, derisively calling it the "Magical Misery Tour," a play on the iconic 1967 Beatles album "Magical Mystery Tour." The NY Post called it The Magical Misery Tour, but I think the bus itself needs to be named.

While on a bus tour this week across a midwest ravaged by deindustrialisation, President Barack Obama has ironically been touting job-killing free trade agreements. Mitt Romney deemed the road trip, which goes through an archipelago of shuttered factories and mills, as Obama's "Magical Misery Tour", though the former governor and CEO would undoubtedly promote the same free trade policies even more fervently. Obama won Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois in 2008, but is set to lose them in 2012 if he remains on the free trade bandwagon. Last week, he visited Michigan, the epicentre of American manufacturing's decimation. A May report...

So who was the first to coin Barack Obama's "non-campaign" campaign bus tour as "Magical Misery Tour?" Was it Mitt Romney or Rush Limbaugh? Answer: Neither. The first person documented to have so coined the bus tour was my DUmmie FUnnies co-author Charles Henrickson as you can see documented in his August 9 Free Republic post:#57 (same number as the number of states in the Obama States of America). Charles also posted a DUmmie FUnnies edition on August 14 by that same name which included a parody song about the "Magical Misery Tour" sung to the tune of Magical Mystery...

DECORAH, Iowa — Hitting back against an emboldened GOP, President Barack Obama launched a rare direct attack Monday on the Republican presidential field, criticizing his potential 2012 rivals for their blanket opposition to any deficit-cutting compromise involving new taxes.“That’s just not common sense,” Obama told the crowd at a town hall-style meeting in Cannon Falls, Minn., as he kicked off a three-day bus tour through Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois.“You’ve got to be willing to compromise to move the country forward,” the president said later in the day as he delivered the same message at a town hall in Decorah, Iowa.

More nicknames have emerged for President Obama’s heartland bus tour: Rolling Blunder, Bus Force One, Running on Empty, America Under the Wheels, Hell on Wheels, Beast Bus. All courtesy of talk radio, the conservative blogosphere, fierce Republicans and — astonishingly enough — National Public Radio, which came up with the Beast Bus. “The debt end bus tour … and a president who is really the campaigner-in-chief here of America. All he’s doing is campaigning,” says Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

.Pull over, Sarah Palin: President Obama's bus is about to run yours off the road. The $1.1 million (yep, you read that right) Obamamobile is, according to the Associated Press, "an impenetrable-looking conveyance the size of a cross-country Greyhound, painted all in black, with dark tinted windows and flashing red and blue lights." The rubber is hitting the road for the president's current trip to Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. Two of these superbuses were commissioned by the Secret Service to chauffeur the commander-in-chief around the country -- along with the eventual Republican presidential candidate and visiting dignitaries. BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Today Obama will go out amongst the peoples on a listen tour to learn (after almost three years) what is bothering the people. No jobs. Then he's gonna finally figure out what the people want: jobs! And then he's going to ask them what they need: jobs! He doesn't need to leave Washington for this. Now, all presidents have used photo-ops to gain favor, but no president in our history has had such little respect for your intelligence as to do something this absurd, to go on a listen tour. You know what they're gonna hope to...

Minneapolis — Burdened by sagging poll numbers, hamstrung by poor economic news, and trapped in Washington for much of the summer because of the debt ceiling fight, President Obama will seek to reverse his recent fortunes by hitting the open road. Obama Monday will embark on a three-state, five-town bus tour deep in the heart of the American Midwest. The campaign-style swing comes at a time when a new Gallup Poll shows the president sliding below a 40 % approval rating for the first time. The White House maintains the president will confine his remarks to the economy and will...

President Obama’s three-day bus tour of the Midwestern heartland already has earned a nickname. It’s “Greyhound One” according to observant wags at Lucianne.com and elsewhere in the conservative blogosphere. Most are irked that Mr. Obama and his strategists have borrowed a page from the tea party playbook. What’s better than a campaign-style bus tour to impart a message of frugality and kitchen-table economics? But wait. Though the excursion is packaged with humble appeal, it looks like nobody’s sleeping on the bus. The White House has reserved the entire historic Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah, Iowa, and 60 rooms at nearby Luther...

Obama arrived in Minnesota earlier today. "I am very pleased to be out of Washington," he said. White House press secretary Jay Carney bridled at the notion that the three-day bus tour, which traverses three battleground states Obama won in 2008, had anything to do with the fact that he’s struggling to maintain support in those states ahead of the 2012 contest. Carney said it was ridiculous to suggest that “anytime the president leaves Washington, it’s campaigning,” and that Obama was “doing what presidents do, going out into the country.”

President Obama Begins Bus Tour in MinnesotaUpdated: Aug 15, 2011 12:47 PM EDT President Barack Obama has set out from St. Paul, Minn., on a three-day bus tour that will give him a chance to hear directly from a public frustrated with Washington even as Republican presidential hopefuls ramp up their campaigning. Air Force One landed midmorning at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and Obama disembarked under sunny skies and greeted a small crowd at a rope line. He then boarded an unmarked black bus for a 40-minute drive south to Cannon Falls, Minn., for a town hall event. Obama's first...

In the past, the Secret Service would lease buses as needed and outfit them with the security and communications equipment as needed. RNC mocks Obama's 'Debt-End Bus Tour' By: CNN's Rebecca Stewart (CNN) - The Republican National Committee offered up its take on President Obama's Midwest bus tour Monday with a three-pronged press offensive including a "Press Corps Briefing Book," a web ad, and radio spots that detail what they've termed "Obama's Debt-End Bus Tour." The RNC describes the president's effort to dialogue with the public about job growth and the economy at town halls and economic forums as "a totally non-political taxpayer-funded administration event that just happens to criss-cross several battleground states critical to the president's re-election" in the Obama critique,...

A federal judge ruled on Thursday that the free speech of a coalition of atheists had been violated when Little Rock's public bus line denied them the right to place $5,000 worth of ads on city buses. Washington-based United Coalition of Reason filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Arkansas group in June after the transit authority and its advertising agency rejected The transit...

Somehow, from somewhere, a bright political strategist on the president's reelection team has come up with the idea of sending Obama out in a bus on Midwestern roads in two weeks, just like real Americans, or real Americans who can still afford a short summer road trip. The spectacle of a passing politician's bus and waving citizens provides grand visuals for TV during the usually slow summer news days. ... Not so good visuals of the trailing motorcade of press buses, Secret Service SUVs, SWAT team vans and communications cars. Nor the angry motorists stalled nearby because the highway...

In Saginaw, the bus authority had fewer passengers in 2010 than a year previous, but it still translated into buses on the road longer and a 20 percent jump in overtime. The Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) had its ridership drop from 1,016,387 in 2009 to 982,424 in 2010 but saw its overtime costs climb from $164,377 in 2009 to $200,320 in 2010.
