President's Address to the Nation The Oval Office In Focus: Renewal in Iraq 9:01 P.M. EST THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. Three days ago, in large numbers, Iraqis went to the polls to choose their own leaders -- a landmark day in the history of liberty. In the coming weeks, the ballots will be counted, a new government formed, and a people who suffered in tyranny for so long will become full members of the free world. This election will not mean the end of violence. But it is the beginning of something new: constitutional democracy at the heart of the...

WASHINGTON - President Bush will say Sunday, according to excerpts of a prepared speech, that Iraq's elections signal the birth of democracy in the Middle East, arguing against a U.S. troop pullout while acknowledging the doubts of some "that the war is lost and not worth another dime or another day." The president's speech says that last week's voting for parliament will not bring an end to the violence in Iraq, where he has estimated that 30,000 civilians and more than 2,100 Americans have died. But Iraq's election, 6,000 miles away, "means that America has an ally of growing strength...

President Bush will address the nation about Iraq on Sunday evening, his first speech from the Oval Office since he announced the beginning of the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. The address at 9 p.m. EST comes on the heels of a two-week, four-speech blitz to build support for a war that a majority of Americans now say was a mistake. The White House said it was asking television networks for live coverage of the president's address, expected to run less than 20 minutes. "The Iraqi people have just concluded a historic election, and we now are entering a critical...

Please be seated. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's good to be back at the Naval Academy. I'm pleased to provide a convenient excuse for you to miss class. It's the first year that every class of midshipmen at this academy arrived after the attacks of September the 11th, 2001. Each of you have volunteered to wear our nation's uniform in a time of war, knowing all the risks and...

After weeks and months of media induced martyrdom, President Bush finally attacked the Democrats for their dishonest attempts to rewrite history! "The stakes in the global war on terror are too high and the national interest is too important for politicians to throw out false charges," the president said in his combative Veterans Day speech. Defending the march to war, Bush said that foreign intelligence services and Democrats and Republicans alike were convinced at the time that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. "Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and...

(Laughter.) It is great to be here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. (Cheers, applause.) You got a lot of history in this part of the world. This part of the country was home to the first English-speaking colony on the continent, birthplace of representative government in America, and the site of George Washington's victory in the Revolutionary War. I call him the first George W. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) In...

As heard on the Hugh Hewitt show, ABC's Terry Moran, upon the conclusion of President Bush's speech at Ft. Bragg, actually made the comment that the crowd was very quiet and only applauded when prompted to do so my the President's advance team. A colonel then called Hugh's show. At a non-partisan event such as this, the soldiers would have certainly been told that proper decorum was not to cheer and interrupt the President. The death spiral of the mainstream media continues. Twenty years from now, your grandchildren will be asking, "Grandpa, what was ABC, CBS, and NBC?"

Dear [ ], Tonight, President Bush will speak to the nation about the situation in Iraq. It's about time. I hope tonight he'll address his words not just to us, and certainly not to Karl Rove or Donald Rumsfeld, but to a young American soldier in Iraq right now -- the soldier carrying an M-16 in a dangerous place where he or she can't tell friend from foe, the marine out on patrol at night who doesn't know what's coming around the next bend. America's brave young men and women deserve to hear the truth. For too long, the Bush...

Our robust trade is one of the engines of the world economy. Our example of economic and political freedom gives hope to millions who are weary of poverty and oppression. President Bush's Inaugural address may have bothered traditional conservatives but it brought joy to the hearts of the neoconservative wing of the Republican party, the Los Angeles Times reports. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "that determined band of hawkish idealists who promoted the U.S. invasion of Iraq and now seek to bring democracy to the rest of the Middle East," the neocons couldn't have been more enthusiastic about the policy enunciated by the President. In one dramatic gesture, the President speech revived what had been seen as the sagging fortunes of the neocons who had virtually disappeared from...

Intermediate Draft, seeking FReeper input. South Boston Phoenix Special Report “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke) GW Bush dared to invoke the 'G' word, 'God', three times in his 2005 Inaugural Speech. The most talked-about reaction came from Peggy Noonan. The irony is how low the Bush Administration has sunk in order to not look 'overly'-Christian: 1. In his speech, the President, OUR President, spoke well of the Koran, the religion with scriptures that demand the killing of any infidels too weak to retaliate and too 'proud' to submit...

"Fourth clear choice in this election involves your retirement. Our nation has made a solemn commitment to America's seniors on Social Security and Medicare. When I ran for President four years ago, I promised to keep that commitment and improve Medicare by adding prescription drug coverage. I have kept my word. (Applause.) You know, leaders in both political parties have talked about Medicare for years, for years. We got the job done. Seniors are now getting discounts on medicine with drug discount cards. Low-income seniors are getting $600 on their card this year and $600 next year. And beginning in...

Our mission continues. Al Qaeda is wounded, not destroyed. The scattered cells of the terrorist network still operate in many nations, and we know from daily intelligence that they continue to plot against free people. The proliferation of deadly weapons remains a serious danger. The enemies of freedom are not idle, and neither are we. Our government has taken unprecedented measures to defend the homeland. And we will continue to hunt down the enemy before he can strike. (Applause.) The war on terror is not over; yet it is not endless. We do not know the day of final victory,...

They have lobbied in the halls of Congress wearing pig costumes and wandered the streets of Manhattan dressed in evening wear and rags. But the three founders of the women's antiwar group Codepink are seasoned advocates who may have pulled off the protest coup of the convention: While thousands of demonstrators chanted on the streets, drawing only glancing attention from the Republicans, their members were inside Madison Square Garden night after night, unfurling banners and baring slogans, forcing even the president to take notice. ''We don't want just to be outside on the street talking to ourselves,'' said Medea Benjamin,...

The Bush speech by kos Fri Sep 3rd, 2004 at 01:25:46 GMT It's embargoed, but enterprising bloggers like me spit on GOoPer embargoes! The speech is in the extended comments. General 2004 :: Mr. Chairman, delegates, fellow citizens: I am honored by your support, and I accept your nomination for President of the United States. When I said those words four years ago, none of us could have envisioned what these years would bring. In the heart of this great city, we saw tragedy arrive on a quiet morning. We saw the bravery of rescuers grow with danger. We learned...
