Federal labor board officials approved at union vote Tuesday at the Boeing plants in South Carolina, despite adamant opposition from the company. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) approved the request by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) who are hoping to organize the 3,000 workers at Boeing’s 787 production facility in North Charleston. However, Boeing has been vocally opposed to the idea. The NLRB set the vote for Apr. 22 after both Boeing and the union agreed to waive a hearing on the matter, reports Reuters.

Another name for electric cars is "coal-powered cars." That doesn't sit well with those who want to demonstrate their green bona fides by driving a plug-in vehicle. But it is in many cases accurate. Anyone who begs to differ can take up the argument with Chris Kennedy, a professor of civil engineering at the University of Toronto. He told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. that, depending on the province, an electric car can produce more carbon dioxide than a gasoline-powered car.

(Reuters) - Mexican state oil firm Pemex expects imminent approval from the U.S. Commerce Department to allow it to swap up to 100,000 barrels of heavy crude for a similar amount of lighter U.S. oil, what could be the latest milestone toward loosening the four-decades old ban on exporting U.S. oil. "Our expectation is that it happens soon," Jose Manuel Carrera, CEO of Pemex's commercial arm P.M.I. Comercio Internacional, said in an interview Friday. "I would like to see the approval tomorrow, or I would have liked to see it yesterday, but the truth is that this is a permit...
  • Futures Tumble As Yemen War Starts; Oil, Gold Surges

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, this morning's futures reaction to last night's shocking start of a completely unexpected Yemen proxy war, which has seen an alliance of Gulf State launch an air, and soon land, war against Yemen's Houthi rebels, is what one would expect: down, and down big. This is surprising, because on previous occasions one would expect the NY Fed, or its pet hedge fund, Citadel, or the BOJ or ECB (via the CME's "Central Bank Incentive Program") to aggressively buy ES to prevent a slide, something has changed, and for the BTFDers, that something may...

When you go shopping, you probably think stores will keep your personal information safe and secure. But now, a report says Radio Shack is ready to auction off customer information as part of its bankruptcy sale. As CBS2’s Dick Brennan reported, the report says Radio Shack is ready to sell information they have on some 117 million customers, including names, addresses, phone numbers and other details on purchases. This despite the Radio Shack privacy policy, which says “We will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information to anyone at any time.” And some consumer experts say what Radio Shack...
  • Nine Obamacare takeover elements at stake in King v. Burwell

As the Supreme Court considers oral arguments in the King v. Burwell Obamacare subsidy case, the media is awash in claims that a King win will be a political disaster, forcing Republicans to save the illegal Obamacare subsidies issued in the 37 states without a state-based exchange. But the real disaster is the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the dangers the federal takeover of healthcare poses for patients, doctors, pocketbooks and health freedom. These very real dangers include: Socializing Medicine – The ACA sets up Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to nationalize the delivery of medical care. ACOs, sometimes called “HMOs...

Yes, Ted Cruz can buy insurance through Obamacare while remaining totally committed to repealing it. Just like his competitors for the 2016 presidential nomination. Cruz said Tuesday that he and his family will sign up for health insurance through the exchanges created by Obamacare, prompting plenty of chest-beating from Democrats looking to paint Cruz—a staunch opponent of the health care law—as a hypocrite. But Cruz isn't the only 2016 contender to turn to the exchanges. Sen. Rand Paul signed up when the marketplaces first opened. "It made me an unhappy person," he said at the time. Sen. Marco Rubio also...

China’s approach to international energy and environmental policy can be summed up very simply: tell the idiot gwai lo whatever they want to hear – then carry on doing what China wants, regardless. Fortunately for the prospects of the US economy, it would appear that not every US politician has fallen for the risible line, heavily promoted by the Obama administration and its amen corner in the environmental movement, that China cares every bit as much as the West does about the allegedly urgent need to curb global CO2 emissions. Two who very much haven’t are Republican senators Roy Blunt...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: There continues to be some... well, not just curiosity, some confusion as well about Ted Cruz and his decision to sign up for Obamacare. There's another option. There's some options that he has here, and I want to run through these. Now, all of this would have been academic had his wife not quit. Well, she didn't quit. She took an unpaid leave of absence from Goldman Sachs. If she had stayed there while he ran the campaign, this would not even be an issue. But they made a determination that a campaign is a family endeavor,...

Mac Slavo March 25th, 2015 The announcement that California is rapidly running out of water has put new pressure on our most precious resource that could, in turn, force increased prices and shut down organic food production. Ultimately, it could even threaten the food supply. The recent warnings from NASA hydrologist Jay Famiglietti, based on satellite data of the groundwater supply as it is threatened by the ongoing drought, is only compounding the issues for farmers who have already been driven to cut back production as water is rerouted to cities and industries. State leaders are embracing a full on...

I think about myself as like an ocean liner that’s been going full speed for a long distance, and the captain pulls the throttle back all the way to ‘stop,’ but the ship doesn’t stop immediately, does it? It has its own momentum and it keeps on going, and I’m very flattered that people are still finding me useful.” — Leonard Nimoy. There are many different factors that can influence markets, but among the most powerful is momentum for the simple reason that people find comfort and safety in doing what everyone else is doing. Texas Senator Ted Cruz, the guy who liberals tagged with killing the economy because he helped shutdown the government for a few hours more or less, has decided to run for president. And CNNMoney is sore afraid. Why?Who knows with liberals? Maybe it’s because he’s unafraid of common sense. Maybe it’s because he’s happy with going against the conventional wisdom. Maybe it’s because he’s the most sinister of characters: a white Hispanic. But no sooner had the echo faded from Cruz’ announcement than CNNMoney issued a “reality check” on Cruz’ nascent campaign’s economic platform. Most news sites are just happy to “fact...

It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill. [...] Cruz is part of large group of politicians who will not acknowledge the H-1B's visas use in offshore outsourcing or the reality of U.S. workers who are forced to train their visa-holding replacements. In defending this...

With tax day fast approaching, it’s time to write about our good friends at the Internal Revenue Service. One of the new traditions at the IRS is an annual release of tax scams. It’s know as the “dirty dozen” list, and while it may exist mostly as a publicity stunt, it does contain some useful advice. And that’s true of this year’s version. But I worry that the IRS is looking at a few trees and missing the forest. The Washington Examiner was kind enough to let me write a cover story on the “dirty dozen” list. Here’s my effort to add some...
