Ezekiel 9 (NIV) Then I heard him call out in a loud voice, “Bring near those who are appointed to execute judgment on the city, each with a weapon in his hand.” And I saw six men coming from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with a deadly weapon in his hand. With them was a man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. They came in and stood beside the bronze altar. Now the glory of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim, where it had been,...

Rediscovering the riches of Scripture A revolution has taken place in the Roman Catholic Church’s understanding of the Bible. As a result, the life and mission of the church have been transformed. Biblical stories and themes formerly unknown have become familiar. This is a relatively recent phenomenon. While the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century championed biblically based preaching and teaching (sola scriptura), the Roman Church focused on traditional doctrine and insisted that its leaders alone were authorized to interpret the Bible. It was not until Pius XII’s encyclical “Divino Afflante Spiritu” (“On Promoting the Study of Sacred Scripture,” 1943)...

For the last few years, Donna Pulkrabek was the manager of UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, a group of scientists and vets and other folks tasked with keeping an eye on how the school treats its animal research subjects, among them dogs, goats, frogs and sheep and mice. It was her job to make sure UTSW complies with Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare guidelines concerning the treatment of animals....

My 46 year old niece is in coronary care ICU tonight with a bad heart trunk, atrial and mitral valve. They intend to operate on her as soon as possible. She also has breast cancer, is frail and has other complications.

I have just received word that my niece is in the hospital and in very, very, very bad health. Her liver has failed and her kidneys are now failing. She is on the transplant list, but without a new liver she won’t be leaving the hospital. Please join with me in lifting her up to God for His healing and blessing, asking for a new liver for her. Prayers for her family are also appreciated.

We have found a manufacturer of jalousie windows needed to prepare a house for sale, but they are in Pompano Beach FL and the windows are needed in Illinois. Strangely, the manufacturer has a "not my problem" response to the question of how to get the things packed and shipped. It may be because it is a small order of only two windows. And we've never handled something like this ourselves. Any suggestions on what to do?!

The premise to uphold or debunk: (a) That the name of “Rock” was specially announced as a name for God in the Torah (Deut 32:1-4) and that (b) the name has been erased and/or lost in certain translations and thus (c) has had an effect on how Christians understand certain passages in Scripture. Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the...

Following is the final result of the survey of what Freepers believe is the end of all that there is: Eschatology is the study of the end of history according to Christian theology. Teleology is the study of final causes, the end results. OED definition (offered by XeniaSt) 1 Philosophy - the doctrine that the existence of phenomena may be explained with reference to the purpose they serve. 2 Theology - the doctrine that there is evidence of design and purpose in the natural world. As expected, Freepers' answers were strongly related to personal religious beliefs. The order is the...

The last Freeper Research Project on Freeper personality types is currently being compiled and will be posted soon. Meanwhile, we are embarking on a new survey to determine what Freepers believe is the end of all that there is.: Eschatology is the study of the end of history according to Christian theology. Teleology is the study of final causes, the end results. Freepers’ answers will no doubt be strongly related to personal religious beliefs - but this is not a religion thread! If you wish to argue for or against any particular belief system please take it up somewhere...

Would you like to learn a little more about yourself and your fellow posters on Free Republic? If so, you might enjoy this Freeper Research Project. It began on another thread where people were testing themselves for “nerdiness”. Great fun was had by all. Along the way, Freeper patton posted a link to the Jung personality test. What an adventure! I took the test for the first time and found out I am an INFJ (I=44, N=75, F=25, J=25). Because we were sharing the results of our tests on that thread, I was pleasantly surprised to discover three other...

Do You See Your Calling? " . . . separated to the gospel of God. . . " —Romans 1:1 Our calling is not primarily to be holy men and women, but to be proclaimers of the gospel of God. The one all-important thing is that the gospel of God should be recognized as the abiding reality. Reality is not human goodness, or holiness, or heaven, or hell— it is redemption. The need to perceive this is the most vital need of the Christian worker today. As workers, we have to get used to the revelation that redemption is...

The Dilemma of Obedience " Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision " —1 Samuel 3:15 God never speaks to us in dramatic ways, but in ways that are easy to misunderstand. Then we say, "I wonder if that is God’s voice?" Isaiah said that the Lord spoke to him "with a strong hand," that is, by the pressure of his circumstances ( Isaiah 8:11 ). Without the sovereign hand of God Himself, nothing touches our lives. Do we discern His hand at work, or do we see things as mere occurrences? Get into the habit of saying,...

How Could Someone Be So Ignorant! " Who are You, Lord? " —Acts 26:15 "The Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand . . ." ( Isaiah 8:11 ). There is no escape when our Lord speaks. He always comes using His authority and taking hold of our understanding. Has the voice of God come to you directly? If it has, you cannot mistake the intimate insistence with which it has spoken to you. God speaks in the language you know best— not through your ears, but through your circumstances. God has to destroy our determined confidence...

How Could Someone So Persecute Jesus! " Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? " —Acts 26:14 Are you determined to have your own way in living for God? We will never be free from this trap until we are brought into the experience of the baptism of "the Holy Spirit and fire" (Matthew 3:11). Stubbornness and self-will will always stab Jesus Christ. It may hurt no one else, but it wounds His Spirit. Whenever we are obstinate and self-willed and set on our own ambitions, we are hurting Jesus. Every time we stand on our own rights and...

Look Again and Think " Do not worry about your life . . . " —Matthew 6:25 A warning which needs to be repeated is that "the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches," and the lust for other things, will choke out the life of God in us ( Matthew 13:22 ). We are never free from the recurring waves of this invasion. If the frontline of attack is not about clothes and food, it may be about money or the lack of money; or friends or lack of friends; or the line may be drawn...
