Copied from a discussion at tngunowners.com: Has anyone else heard the ad put out by the Lincoln Davis campaign slamming Scott DesJarials? In it Davis is portraying Scott as quite a troublemaker, having run ins with the law and even "firing a unloaded gun." I don't know much about either of these guys. They aren't in my district but if Scott has discoved a way to fire a gun without bullets I think he is the kind of genius we need in government. Maybe he can invent a way to run the gov. without taking any of our money.

So there’s this revolutionary new electronic reader for books and newspapers from Amazon called Kindle DX. It kinda looks like offspring of a PDA and a video iPod. Amazon has a virtual library of more than 275,000 works you can download to the device and read on the go. The hope is that Kindle will serve as the missing link that connects the old world of print with the new world of digital, thereby saving the former. But first, it’s going to need to learn how to properly address the President of the United States. Right now, it’s calling him...

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli President Shimon Peres has chosen hard-line Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu to form a new government. Friday's announcement means Netanyahu now has six weeks to put together a ruling coalition. The question is whether Netanyahu will form a narrow hard-line coalition government or a broad government along with his centrist rival, Kadima leader Tzipi Livni.

New Scientist has received an unprecedented amount of interest in this story from readers. If you would like up-to-date information on any plans for clinical trials of DCA in patients with cancer, or would like to donate towards a fund for such trials, please visit the site set up by the University of Alberta and the Alberta Cancer Board. We will also follow events closely and will report any progress as it happens. It sounds almost too good to be true: a cheap and simple drug that kills almost all cancers by switching off their “immortality”. The drug, dichloroacetate (DCA),...
  • Post your Healthy Recipes here

A Freeper asked me for some healthy recipes by freepmail, and it occurred to me that it would be nice to have a thread where Freepers could post their healthy recipes. Could be a great resource. This muffin recipe is really versatile. Buttermilk Bran Muffins 2 cups wheat bran (I use 1 cup oat bran and 1 cup flax meal, but 2 cups of oat or wheat bran would do) 1 cup Splenda (use the kind that measures the same as sugar as opposed to the type that is concentrated) 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 2 1/2 teaspoons baking...

WASHINGTON A blistering comedy “tribute” to President Bush by Comedy Central’s faux talk show host Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent Dinner Saturday night left George and Laura Bush unsmiling at its close. Earlier, the president had delivered his talk to the 2700 attendees, including many celebrities and top officials, with the help of a Bush impersonator. Colbert, who spoke in the guise of his talk show character, who ostensibly supports the president strongly, urged the Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, “and reality has a well-known liberal bias.” He attacked those...

My best friend called this morning, in a panic, because her baby, Tracey, will be deployed to Iraq in a few months. Turns out he finagled a transfer because he wants to go. She's proud of him, but also very frightened. So please pray for not only Tracey, but Nora as well. Mainly pray for Tracey's safety and his mom's peace of mind, but also for their general well being. Thanks. I'm proud of my Godson. :-)

Political Color In his new book "Politics Lost," Time magazine columnist Joe Klein complains about today's colorless political figures. He cites Teresa Heinz Kerry as a notable exception, but also talks about the problems that can cause. Klein recounts that at the 2004 Democratic Convention, Heinz Kerry tried to prevent vice presidential candidate John Edwards from joining her husband onstage before she did, insisting, "I am the spouse. I go first." Unable to reason with the woman, Klein writes, a young aide waited until the end of Kerry's speech then "blocked Teresa with both arms, turned his head, and yelled...

SLIDELL, La. - A Louisiana man who stayed home when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast spent his time during the storm capturing video of the destruction. Kennard Jackley of Slidell is retired from the Merchant Marines and spent his life out at sea. He has never evacuated during a hurricane and stayed behind for this one, although he did send his wife to Texas. He captured home video of the waters of Lake Pontchartrain as they rose outside and ended up sending him to the second story of his home. Jackley estimates that Katrina did about $50,000 of damage...

I was just called by an NBC pollster. I found it interesting that I was first asked if I think the country is headed in the right or wrong direction, and only after I answered "right," did the man ask my age, and then tell me, "Oh, I'm sorry. The computer is screening for age groups and we're not looking for opinions from your age group at this time. Maybe we'll call you for your opinion later." Now, it seems to me that they're screening for right way/wrong way opinions as opposed to age group. Why else would they have...

Go here to vote. Scroll down and click on the radio button by "other." Then Fill in the title, "Bush was Right," and the band, "The Right Brothers." Put a POLITE (please) comment in the box. Together we can make MTV take notice of The Right Brothers, who BTW have some great music out. Take a moment to visit their web site and listen to samples of their music. I own their CDs and listen to them often. Anyway, this is a campaign organized by Rightmarch.com to get people to the MTV site to attempt to get the conservative message...
  • St. Tammany Parish (Louisiana) businesses desperate for workers

It's never been so easy to find a job in St. Tammany Parish. Maybe not a glamorous one, but a job nonetheless. An entry-level job that requires little or no skill. A job that once paid $8 an hour but now offers a signing bonus of $6,000. Employers would give their eye teeth to fill these jobs, which have come available in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Each day they lose more and more money because they don't have enough people flipping burgers, washing dishes or selling plywood.

Eliot Kamenitz/Times-Picayune A home on St. Roch is marked with paint from emergency workers: 1 dead in attic Tuesday, November 15, 2005 By Chris Rose Times-Picayune I live on The Island, where much has the appearance of Life Goes On. Gas stations, bars, pizza joints, joggers, strollers, dogs, churches, shoppers, neighbors, even garage sales. Sometimes trash and mail service, sometimes not. It sets to mind a modicum of complacency that maybe everything is all right. But I have this terrible habit of getting into my car every two or three days and driving into the Valley Down Below, that vast...

SLIDELL - They expected to see devastation. They anticipated horrific scenes of overturned cars and homes swallowed by water. But after nearly two exhausting weeks of working 12-hour days to help clean Slidell and area schools, the 100 or so U.S. Marines camping at Bonne Ecole Elementary School never expected to see a Mardi Gras parade. Then, on Friday night, just as dusk faded to night, the stereo receiver clicked on. Zydeco music shot through the parking lot where the Marines gathered, and several Slidell Rotary Club members burst through the school's doors dressed in lavish Mardi Gras attire. The...
