  • Tony Dungy's Son Found Dead in Apartment (Colts Coach's Son)

I used to live in Indianapolis. I was running errands and heard the news and immediately called my family. Coach Dungy is truly a family man. My heart and my prayers go out to him and his family and I am praying that God will help them through this terrible time. Losing a child is just the worse thing I could imagine.

  • GM to raise India workforce by 30%

Not all car manufacturers have unionized employees. GM is shifting its workforce to India in a bid to cut down on the cash it is bleeding out. I think if GM was committed to keeping jobs in the US, they could find a way to employ non-union employees. Other car manufacturers do and, quite frankly, make a better car.

  • Delta files for bankruptcy protection

You are correct, but they will all file by Oct. 17 when the new bankruptcy code goes into effect. The new code is not nearly as "CEO friendly" as the current Code. Trust me, if any big company is toying with filing, they will do it within the month.

  • Delta Airlines Reported to File Chapter 11 Within 48 Hours.

I would imagine one of the big reasons for Delta to file now is the fact that under the new Code, which takes effect next month, it will be almost impossible to get a KERP (a "Key Employee Retention Program"), which is basically a bonus/incentive program that they give to top execs so they won't leave during the bankruptcy. Trust me, you will see a lot of businesses filing chapter 11 between now and Oct 17. If they are teetering, they will lean towards filing. Just my two cents (I'm a bankr. atty).

I've found Texaco to be the cheapest of the major gas station chains. Is that true anywhere else? $2.69/gall when I last filled up (three days ago). Other stations are around $3/gall.

I can't remember where I read this, but I googled "Bill Clinton" and "John Roberts" and found this:

I may have misspoken, Clinton called him "very impressive." But still. I'm sure that Clinton has probably referred to Ginsberg in the same way.

Agreed. And I think that of course Roberts has to say he will respect precedent. Do we really think he'd go into his confirmation process saying he would overturn Roe? The Dems and RINOS would never vote to confirm! And as Souter has shown, what a potential justice says/does before he is confirmed is irrelevant.

Although has anyone read that Clinton has spoken out in favor of Roberts? This may be the first time I have EVER agreed with him.

    My two cents:

I just don't think Roe will be overturned. Scalia has already used the principle of "stare decisis" when discussing abortion, and he is a strict constructionist. As much as I think we would be getting back to original intent by throwing out Roe, I think we need to keep in mind that the right to abortion is based on the right to privacy under the Constitution. A lot of rights based on the right to privacy are things I think all FReepers think are good - the right to marry, the right to procreate, the right to custody of one's children, the right to control the upbringing of one's children, etc.

I guess my point is that, right now, I think overturning Roe is wishful thinking. But if Bush listens to his supporters and nominates a conservative to replace O'Connor and then Rehnquist, we have to hope if Roe is overturned that it is a very narrow decision, as to not interrupt other basic privacy rights that I think are good. In any case, I do think that abortion is a states' rights issue and let voters in each state decide whether or not women should be allowed to kill their children. I know my state would never allow it, so it would be a start, right???

Sorry if I am being long-winded...I'm new. :) Oh, and I think Bill Pryor would be a great SCOTUS justice.

Bill Pryor for SCOTUS, even though he has only been on appellate bench for a couple of weeks. Didn't Thomas move up quickly????
