I don’t see how you rig this election by ADDING votes to Obama.

If that were the case he wouldn’t have shed 10 million votes from 2008. If ALLLLL these people are voting for Romney then you have to conclude that Obama’s real vote total was something like 50 million people. And while that would be hilarious if true, that’s just not practical to think.

Romney had less votes than McCain, despite winning I’s by enough of a margin that he was leading McCain’s 08 total by 2.5 million votes at the start of election day.

Somewhere along the way 3-5 million votes just up and vanished like a fart in the wind.

Scoff all you want, but a Palin/Romney ticket could win, and win big.

Colorado, Nevada, New Hampshire, Michigan — those are all states that Obama won, and would likely lose to a P/R ticket.

Add to that the states that will likely flip back no matter who’s the candidate — like Virginia, Florida, and Ohio.

That’s pretty much the election right there.

Big gains in the house and the senate.

In the house, I would guess a minimum of 30 seats and a max of 50. 50 would put the GOP just over the majority mark, but that might be wishful thinking.

In the senate, the following are up for reelection, along with who I think is vulnerable/likely to lose:

Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas) — GOP GAIN 1

    Barbara Boxer (California)

Ken Salazar (Colorado) — GOP GAIN 2

    Daniel Inouye (Hawaii)

Barrack Obama’s replacement chosen by the Governor of Illinois after his resignation from the Senate in January to become President (Illinois) — GOP GAIN 3

    Evan Bayh (Indiana)

    Barbara Mikulski (Maryland)

Harry Reid (Nevada) — GOP GAIN 4

    Chuck Schumer (New York)

Byron Dorgan (North Dakota) — GOP GAIN 5

    Ron Wyden (Oregon)

    Patrick Leahy (Vermont)

    Russ Feingold (Wisconsin)

    Richard Shelby (Alabama)

    Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)

    John McCain (Arizona)

    Mel Martinez (Florida)

    Johnny Isakson (Georgia)

    Mike Crapo (Idaho)

    Chuck Grassley (Iowa)

    Jim Bunning (Kentucky)

    David Vitter (Louisiana)

    Kit Bond (Missouri)

    Judd Gregg (New Hampshire)

    Richard Burr (North Carolina)

    George Voinovich (Ohio)

    Tom Coburn (Oklahoma)

Arlen Specter (Pennsylvania) — GOP GAIN 6

    Jim DeMint (South Carolina)

    John Thune (South Dakota)

    Bob Bennet (Utah)

Kansas run, now filled by Sam Brownback, but incumbent
    won’t seek re-election

Christopher Dodd (Connecticut) — GOP GAIN 7

Look, all these things coming out showing how Sarah Palin is down and out, are completely irrelevant.

Between now and the 2012 elections, Sarah Palin will have canvassed the country, and campaigned for dozens of conservative candidates. She will be seen as one of the chief architects of the GOP’s big midterm comeback. She will have beefed up her foreign policy knowhow, and will be leading all GOPers in the polls.

The will (assuming she runs) easily win Iowa (they’re not sold on Romney, just like in 08), and carry her momentum through New Hampshire (the libertarian state in the northeast) and South Carolina. There’ll be no stopping the march through Florida, Ohio, California, etc.

But right now, Sarah Palin is a quitter, no-nothing half-termer, who quit her job because she kept being investigated for ethics complaints. Once she hits the campaign trail, the MSM narrative about her will vanish.

Most are giving goofy answers, but I’ll try to give some legit thoughts:

John Bolton as Sec. of State.

Fred Thompson as Atty Gen. (no seriously)

Joe Lieberman as Sec. of Defense (no, really).

Mitt Romney as Treasury Sec (assuming he’s not VP — it could happen).

    They said it after Bush.

    Nixon, Reagan

Each time the party comes back. People get a taste of liberal policies and they say: “Now where did all the republicans go?” And wham: blowout election. Nixon won 49 states, Reagan won 49 states.

After 4 years of Obama: Palin or whoever might just shut the skeptics up.

The innocent need not be punished.

    Why compound tragedy with tragedy?

We’ve got to stop playing the abortion game on the liberals playground. They want to make it about choice. And so they present scenarios when the choice is not so clear.

It isn’t about choice. It’s about killing an innocent life.

Would it be okay for the mother to have the baby, and then 5 months later, decide she can’t do it; or that the baby wouldn’t want to live like that?

If it’s not okay to kill the baby five months out of the womb, it’s not okay to kill the baby with five months left in the womb.

Murder is murder is murder is murder is murder is murder.

Jindal is fantastic. Anyone criticizing doesn’t know him.

He’s brilliant, appealing, and conservative to the core.

    I don’t think he’ll run for ‘12 though.

The only flaw in him not running with Palin is they would be a team of the relatively inexperienced.

It is illegal to kill a bald eagle because it is a national emblem.

A month ago the 6 people that everyone was expecting to be “front runners” leading up to Iowa/New Hampshire were:

    Sarah Palin
    Newt Gingrich
    Mitt Romney
    Mark Sanford
    Tim Pawlenty
    John Ensign

In one month, we’ve gone from 6 to 4.

4 years ago everyone expected the 08 election to be about foreign policy. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.

Right after the 2004 election, the ‘08 GOP “front runners” were Condi and George Allen.

The point is: a LOT can happen in 4 years. Focus needs to be on 2010, and winning back congress.

...having said that, I personally think, barring anything unexpected (like a sex scandal, etc) the major issue will be the economy, and the top GOP front runners to be:

    Sarah Palin
    Mitt Romney
    Newt Gingrich
    and Tim Pawlenty

Huckabee won’t run. I don’t see him giving up his TV show for another prez. campaign.

Jindal won’t run. I think he will sit out until ‘16 or ‘20. I know that sounds like a looong way off but he’s not even 40 yet.

    Who’s left?

As for the previously mentioned four, I don’t see Pawlenty lasting past New Hampshire (nor do I see him getting higher than 4th in any election, except maybe Iowa). Gingrich will make some noise in the debates, but I don’t see him getting better than 3rd in most elections (and never better than 2nd.) He’ll be out before Super Tuesday and endorse Palin.

But before that, the real showdown (mark your calenders) will be for New Hampshire.

    Sarah Palin vs Mitt Romney.

Palin will likely have just won Iowa by a large margin, shrinking the field of contenders. In New Hampshire, she will be facing off against the strongest candidate from the previous primaries.

If Palin can win Iowa and then New Hampshire (the backyard of Romney) then it’s smooth sailing to the nomination.

The 08 primaries were messy because no one expected a Huckabee win. With his win, there were enough doubts about Romney, (and enough Democrats voting) to give McCain the second win. By the time Romney won Michigan there was no clear leader and it was obvious that it wouldn’t be till march when there was a nominee.

I suspect in 12 the nomination will be over much more quickly. As I said, Palin is the perfect candidate for Iowa (folksy, evangelical, principled — all the things that make her great nationwide, make her greater in Iowa).

So if Palin can win in New England, where they don’t care about how evangelical you are, specifically New Hampshire (the most libertarian of the NE states) then it’ll be over by the end of January.

    ***

After that, I think there is one clear choice to be the running mate. And most everyone here is going to hate it.

    Mitt Romney.

I’m not keen on him either, but think about it: him on the ticket with Palin, completely nullifies his lack of evangelical support, and his inability to relate to the common man, which were his biggest problems in ‘08. He also adds a lot to the ticket: managment experience, economic experience, sharp debate skills, pro-buisness, strong in the rust belt, strong in New England, strong in the west. And he’s against amnesty.

A Palin/Romney ticket can win back Colorado and Nevada (14 EVs). And it can win Michigan and New Hampshire (21 EVs), maybe Pennsylvania as well (21 or 22 EVs)

I know almost everyone here dislikes Romney (I pretty much do too), but just think about it before you blast the idea.

We very well may be seeing a Palin/Romney ticket in 2012.
