  • [Vomit Alert] 5 lawyers opened way for abuse - fashioned legal opinions on detainee treatment

    06/18/2008 6:44:46 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 9 replies · 59+ views
    Lexington Herald-(mis)Leader ^ | Tom Lasseter (McClatchy)
5 lawyers opened the way for abuse Fashioned legal opinions on detainee treatment By Tom Lasseter McClatchy Newspapers Part 4 of a series The framework under which detainees were imprisoned for years without charges at Guantánamo and in many cases abused in Afghanistan wasn’t the product of American military policy or the fault of a few rogue soldiers. It was largely the work of five White House, Pentagon and Justice Department lawyers who, following the orders of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, reinterpreted or tossed out the U.S. and international laws that govern the treatment of prisoners in...
  • Missouri Voter ID - Mo. voters may decide on photo ID requirement

JEFFERSON CITY — Voters could decide whether to enact a photo ID requirement for voting under a proposed constitutional amendment given first-round approval Wednesday by the Missouri House. Legislators approved a photo ID law in 2006, but it was struck down by the state Supreme Court as a violation of the state constitution. The proposal approved Wednesday would present the idea to voters as a constitutional amendment either in November or in a special election. House members gave the resolution first-round approval on a party-line vote, 89-67. Republicans brought up the proposal after the U.S. Supreme Court said an Indiana...
  • Immigration panel report stirs up political firestorm [Lexington, KY panel seeks to be sanctuary]

    10/24/2007 6:33:22 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 9 replies · 89+ views
This is an independent panel to review the immigration issue, in regard to illegal in the Thoroughbred and tobacco industries. They will deliver this report to the Mayor, a careful early-term Dem who does not like controversy but will get pressure from the horse farms. This has a chance with the liberals on our council, but we hopefully have enough to block it if the mayor is foolish enough to go with it. Hopefully this will be big enough to affect the governor's race. What insanity.
  • Ted Nugent Just Owned Kasich On the O'Reilly Factor

    08/29/2007 6:03:53 PM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 92 replies · 3,960+ views
The O'Reilly Factor tonight, Unresolved Problems segment, Kasich subbing for Bill. Played video of The Nuge saying rude things about Hildebeast and Barack Hussein Obama in a concert. Kasich whined like a baby about the "tone", and personal attacks, even though this was a rocker during a PAID private performance. The Nuge was having none of the kowtowing to political correctness. "If you don't know rock-n-roll, you don't get it". Kasich kept crying. Reminded me of Mike Kryszewewsivkvkk during the NCAA tournament. Good night, man, grow up. As the Godfather said, "YOU CAN ACT LIKE A MAN!" Nugent ate his...
  • F.A. Hayek: need Freeper advice on where to start

    07/24/2007 8:00:35 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 25 replies · 641+ views
I have been interested for some time in studying Hayek, but have never read any of his works, or any of the biographies. Milton Friedman's Free to Choose is a favorite, but have never read Hayek. Do any Freepers have advice on where to start to get a good picture of Hayek? The Road To Serfdom or The Constitution of Liberty look like good starts, but would I be better off with a biography or other compilation? Does anyone have any suggestions? Mods, if this should be posted somewhere else, please feel free to move it or ask me to...
  • Herald-Leader Hires New Editor (Lexington KY paper hires Fort Wayne IN editor Linda Austin)

Does anyone know anything about Linda Austin from Fort Wayne? I assume she is another ultra liberal hosebeast being foisted upon us in Lexington. Our paper has been a proving ground for moonbat editors, who have gone on to be editors of the Philly paper (first to endorse Kerry) and the LA Slimes. I am guessing we got another one.
  • [Maryland Democrat] US Senate Candidate Arrested For Rape And Assault

    07/24/2006 12:21:38 PM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 53 replies · 2,778+ views
It isn't any of the Dem frontrunners, but apparently the guy sexually assaulted his mail-order bride. I am so glad I am not a Democrat.
  • [Kentucky GOP Governor] Fletcher Indicted [FREEP THIS POLL]

    05/12/2006 5:36:32 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 8 replies · 587+ views
Democrat Attorney General Greg Stumbo's (and declared gubernatorial candidiate opposing Fletcher) witch hunt of our first GOP governor in 30 years culminated yesterday in an indictment, after a mulit-year investigation costing millions of dollars, for a MISDEMEANOR - conspiracy to commit partisan hiring violations. Now our liberal fish-wrapper is polling whether he should resign. Give us some freep help on this poll, please.
  • Anybody hear George Allen on Laura Ingraham?

    05/12/2005 6:53:36 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 14 replies · 990+ views
I was in the car and heard her say he was coming up, but had to leave my radio. I am looking for a Lauar stream, if anybody has one, or updates. I would love to hear what George has to say.
  • Vanity? - Need Exploratory Cmte Info 2008 GOP Hopefuls, Warner, Owens, others

    03/01/2005 9:38:23 PM PST · by Bluegrass Federalist · 21 replies · 418+ views
The judicial filibuster issue is of primary importance to me, as it is to many others, and I want to start working now to elect a conservative in 2008 who will not put up with this nonsense. Byrd's Nazi speech is the last straw, so I will not wait for an establishment candidiate any more. Does anyone have any contact info on conservative candidiates who have or will form committeees? I like Gov. Mark Warner and Gov. Bill Owens a lot, and would like to talk to them on a serious level about their candidacies and starting an organization in...
  • The Twelve Days of the Season? - It's not Christmas Anymore (Vanity)

    12/14/2004 12:21:39 PM PST · by Bluegrass Federalist · 12 replies · 510+ views
I was in the car listenting to Rush this afternoon, when a commercial came on from the Kentucky lottery. Top the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas, the jingle started "On the first day of the season, my true love gave to me...." A stupid commercial where every day the idiot gets a lucky quarter for scratch-off lottery tickets. My head nearly exploded. "Happy Holidays" is bad enough, but now you can't even say CHRISTMAS in a song about CHRISTMAS!!!! Yeeeaaaaaaargh! (channeling a little Howie Dean there). This drives me nuts. They can have my Christmas when they pry...
  • Vanity: Chirac Skips Reagan's Funeral, But Gives Arafat Military Honors And Bedside Visits

    11/11/2004 9:08:34 AM PST · by Bluegrass Federalist · 45 replies · 1,091+ views
I have been waiting for an editorial noticing this fact, but surprisingly have not seen one. It is not surprising, but is very illustrative, that the corrupt Frenchie who refused to attend Reagan's funeral even though he was in the U.S. at the time would make bedside visits to Murderous Thug Arafat, and give him what amounts to military honors. As long as Chirac Le Worm and his ilk are in charge, France is no ally of the U.S.
  • New Supreme Court Nominees?

    11/03/2004 6:43:18 AM PST · by Bluegrass Federalist · 75 replies · 448+ views
It looks like Bush will get the chance to nominate hopefully at least a couple of SCOTUS justices. Does the Daschle loss break the filibuster? Even if not, I don't think the Rats can sustain a filibuster of a SCOTUS nominee. I would like to see Estrada renominated for the Court of Appeals, if not SCOTUS. Justice Janice Rogers Brown would be a tremendous nominee as well. I would love a Chief Justice Scalia, but that would be a battle. So be it, IMO. I hope Bush renominates all of the filibustered judges, especially Estrada.
  • Bush Fundraiser - Need Video/PowerPoint Presentation Help Please!

    09/01/2004 12:30:29 PM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 12 replies · 427+ views
I am hosting a large fundraiser for the President, targeting young professionals. The venue has a great video system, and I would like to have a rolling presentation running in the background, focusing on key accomplishments, and key events. I know there have been some great presentations done by Freepers or posted here on 9/11 images, Afghanistan & Iraq images, rebuilding, humanitarian & smiling Iraqis images, etc. Could you guys point me to some good ones, or help me design something that would be inspirational for my event? THANKS FREEPERS!
  • Vanity (Elections for News Anchors?)

    06/25/2004 7:06:38 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 27+ views
I was just reading a thread on the good things happening in Iraq, and a thought occured to me. I read that in 37 municipal elections in Iraq, hardline Islamists won between 1% and 3% of the vote, and former Baathists won no seats. That led me to think about how the liberal media is always harping on about the people and democracy when it suits them, and ignoring it when it doesn't. A very ironic thought occured to me - how would the journalists like it if they had to be elected to their jobs? Can you imagine an...

  • Kentucky Governor Patton Pardons Aides in Elcetion Fraud Scandal

    06/18/2003 5:15:32 PM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 6 replies · 150+ views
I didn't see this posted yet, so sorry if it's a repeat. Kentucky's already disgraced Democrat governor (disgraced not just by being a Rat, but a Clinton-esque sex-for-influence scandal) has pardoned the four aides that helped him cheat to win the closest gubernatorial election in Kentucky in decades. The case has been ongoing for most of the blub-gov's, or luv-guv's, (so-called because he committed an affair and used influence to help the mistress, then cried like a pansy on TV) two terms. The KY Supreme Court has recently ruled that the four must stand trial. Now, the guv shows his...
  • SCOTUS appointments and filibuster strategy (Vanity)

    05/21/2003 10:05:10 AM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 20 replies · 2+ views
With the rumors of impending Supreme Court vacancies, it occured to me (and probably already has to many) that these vacancies may be in large part responsible for the startegy regarding appeals court nominees Estrada, Owen, Pickering and others. I have never believed that Bush or the Senate GOP were simply without a strategy, or had been out-maneuvered by the simple and obvious Democrat solution of a filibuster. My thought now is that Bush is waiting on the SCOTUS vacancies before going for the nuclear option of the point of order ruling from Cheney that filibusters of judicial nominees are...
  • FREEP This Poll: Will US Find WMD in Iraq

    05/03/2003 8:58:03 PM PDT · by Bluegrass Federalist · 23 replies · 6+ views
Freep the poll on the History Channel re whether we find WMD. The good guys are winning, but "no" is too credible at 36%.
