CLAREMONT - J.V. Huffman Jr. confessed to scamming hundreds of investors out of millions of dollars, according to documents released Thursday by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In a civil action lawsuit filed in federal court Wednesday by the SEC against the Huffman and his company, the Biltmore Financial Group Inc., the SEC said Huffman conducted a Ponzi scheme, pulling in 500 people in North Carolina and other states since 1991. Authorities Investigate Possible Shooting On I-40 Tuesday, February 18, 2003 Authorities are investigating a possible shooting along Interstate-40 near Conover. The incident happened Monday night before 9 o'clock. Police could not confirm that a 5-year-old girl was hit by a bullet, but would only say she was hit by an object that went through a window of a vehicle she was riding in. She was taken to Catawba Memorial Hospital and remains in stable condition. Police have made no arrests and are expected to release more details Tuesday.

I don't see that SH is any more of a threat now than he was 5 years ago. The President's justification was all old news; not enough to justify a pre-emptive strike. Plus, I believe that peoples and nations have the right to determine their own destiny, free from military coercion by great powers--even the US. Also, I sincerely hope to see the UN succeed as a world body. Look what happened when the League of Nations failed. More than ever, I think we ought to act in concert with other nations.
