After more than 2,500 Cambridge residents made their voices heard during the participatory budget vote in 2021, more than 70 new street signs in East Cambridge will include translations into the native Massachusett language. Sage Carbone, a Cambridge resident, proposed the participatory budget item to add traditional Native translations to city signs, along with commemorating Native American sites in Cambridge with markers. “Any representation is missing,” she said. Carbone is a member of the Northern Narragansett Indian Tribe of Rhode Island with Nipmuc, Massachusett ancestry.

A record 51% of NFL team employees identify as people of color and/or women, the league revealed Thursday in advance of its quarterly owners meeting next week. The accounting includes people who work in football operations and business operations, as well as on coaching staffs and in executive roles. It does not include players or members of the league office. According to separate data, 57% of league office employees identify as people of color and/or women.

Last spring, a Georgia middle-school student stabbed another student 14 times in the school's gymnasium. Cody Dorman, whose bond with namesake Thoroughbred Cody's Wish captured the hearts of the racing world, died Sunday, shortly after watching trackside at Santa Anita as his “best friend” scored a second consecutive victory in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. A bus driver was shot to death along his route in the Germantown area of Philadelphia Thursday morning and a suspect is now in custody, police said. The 48-year-old driver was transporting passengers on the number 23 bus of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or SEPTA, when a woman opened fire at around 10:30 a.m., police said after releasing images of the female suspect.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hess shareholders will receive 1.0250 shares of Chevron for each Hess share. The total enterprise value, including debt, of the transaction is $60 billion.

DALLAS (AP) — Walt Garrison, who led the Big 8 in rushing for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, won a Super Bowl as a fullback with the Dallas Cowboys and competed as a rodeo cowboy, has died. He was 79. The NFL team said in a story posted on its website Thursday that Garrison died overnight. It did not give a cause of death.

A Florida man has been accused of shooting and killing his pregnant teenage girlfriend and her unborn child after she refused to get an abortion, officials announced Tuesday. The Seminole Tribe of Florida could be free to offer statewide electronic sports betting in time for the fall resumption of college and professional football due to a ruling by a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. Northwestern has fired coach Pat Fitzgerald amid allegations of widespread hazing within the football program, university president Michael Schill announced Monday. A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a triple homicide after three relatives were found dead inside a home in Newton, Massachusetts, on Sunday morning, including a couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, officials said. Newton resident Christopher Ferguson, 41, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held without bail.
