I know that lyric, but I have always wondered if Raleigh had much to do with the tobacco trade, or if his main connection is the name of a cigarette. Never looked into it.
The article says he was acquitted at trial. That means it got all the way to a jury, and would have survived a motion to dismiss, which means that a judge (probably a Polk County racist like other posters have described) found that there was probable cause for the case to proceed, even with the exculpatory evidence. To sue for malicious prosecution, the plaintiff has to prove that there was no probable cause for the charge. Mr. Q has a tough row to hoe to prevail on a case against the accuser. It’s different than the Duke boys in NC, they were released by the state after investigation found a corrupt prosecutor essentially fabricated the charges.
I looked into what you said, and the Australian treatment was announced in 2015, and more research has been done since then. How close is it to being released? If I had a family member with alzheimers, I’d be using right now.
I took mine down on January 20. I thought about flying it upside down, but in the end just brought it in. The country it represents no longer exists, although it could possibly be restored.
Well, as I understand it, a berliner was a particular kind of donut. I don’t speak German, but I know that Kennedy said he was a Berliner to mean that he was standing with Berlin against the Soviets who had just erected the wall. He was later ridiculed for saying that he was a donut. Hence my question about someone claiming to be a New Yorker. It doesn’t make you a car.

I read that, and I think what they are trying to say is that they found the woman’s tent with her ID, etc. in it, but the tent she was living in when found was a different one that was left behind by someone else.
The song “Roseanna” was about her. She was the band’s tramp or something. Calling her a star is quite a stretch. She hasn’t done anything worthwhile in about 30 years.

The election theft was worse than your analogy, because in basketball, it is possible for a team to come back from a big lead late in the game, although unlikely. It was impossible for Biden in an election with limited numbers of votes remaining to be counted to make up the difference. In sports, you can keep the other team from scoring with luck and amazing defense and turnovers. In a vote, you can’t win 150,000 to zero.

Since grades are blinded and therefore the teachers can't inflate or deflate grades based on race
That is an important point that I am glad you made. When I attended GU Law, and I presume it continues today, grading was blind. You had a number or code on your test, and the teacher had no idea who you were when grading the test. Results were posted in those days outside the classroom, by number, not name. The only exception to that system would be if a class required a written report, but nowadays, that could be kept anonymous, too. As a result, it would be impossible for this professor to discriminate against any particular race, at least in connection with grading. I am curious how she knew who were the lower ranked students.
