  • Vanity: Are we collecting relevant covid-19 treatment data?

We are told that we must wait many months for the studies before we can judge whether any treatment is effective, and reports of effectiveness of the hydroxychloroquine / azithromycin and other potential treatments are anecdotal and have little value. But many doctors are prescribing these and other drugs and getting results, both positive and negative. Clearly, clinical trials have value, and we should do them. However, aren't we right in the middle of a giant clinical trial with massive amounts of data that could be mined for results? There are many unanswered questions regarding the efficacy of many treatments...
  • Is Hillary Clinton taking money from the Russians? We’ll never know.

Hillary Clinton is raising money, and she’ll accept it from anywhere, including Russia. It’s right out in the open, on her website. If you go to HillaryClinton.com, a website now titled “The Office of Hillary Clinton,” you’ll see a page with the former secretary of state’s current projects. The first one is something called “Onward Together.” Onward Together was formed in May 2017. Based in New York City, it’s a 501(c)(4) “social welfare” organization that describes itself as “dedicated to advancing progressive values and building a brighter future for generations to come by encouraging people to organize, get involved, and...
  • A few questions about the Michael Brown / Ferguson incident

I have a few questions regarding the Michael Brown shooting. The presumption that the police officer used excessive force (or murder as often suggested) is based on the story told by Michael Brown’s friend. Brown's friend clearly either lied or was mistaken based on the autopsy. What other parts of the story did he get wrong? If a person is walking in the middle of the street - not the sidewalk, would that not be a reasonable justification for a police officer to stop and ask the person to move to the sidewalk? Michael Brown had just robbed a store....
  • Why we are losing

Here is my take on why we are losing. I didn’t say “why we lost” because it is an ongoing, systemic problem and not indicative of one political season. All the pundits are talking about campaign tactics, the Mormon factor, Bush blaming, women’s issues, etc. But I think those are all minor compared to one overriding thing – we have, as a nation, bought in to the idea that the State can and should take care of us. Gallup had a poll a week or so that said that 40% of Americans thought that government should do more. That is...
